Oceans Rising (2017)
Insanely bad.
Gaping plot holes, terrible science, wooden actors, bad graphics. But the most important question remains unanswered: What the hell kind of hair products does Pam use to keep it looking pretty for a solid week of sweat, travel and no showers?! I need to buy some.
We Are Still Here (2015)
Not terrible, but didn't bring anything new.
I didn't hate this movie, but I was disappointed in it after seeing reviews about it that praised it SO highly. I went in thinking that maybe I was wrong. Maybe there was more to it than the same-old, same-old demons haunting a house schtick that has been done so many times. (And from the basement? Couldn't that at least be a little different?)
Alas - it wasn't anything interesting. The 'monsters' had a neat look, I suppose. The bit with the possessed hippie husband had some yummy gore and acting, so that was okay. But, the movie was just overall pretty meh.
The reasoning for leaving the main couple alive was never fully explained, in my opinion. I would have respected the movie a lot more if the demons didn't catch feelings for them. Perhaps the presence of the dead son was supposed to lead the watcher to believing that he talked them into sparing them from the seemingly complete slaughter of all the living?
I would not advise against watching this movie for fans of the spooky house sub-genre, but I wasn't excited by it.
Wandering Rose (2015)
Boring, slow moving
It's a good thing that the movie was so dull or I would not have had the chance to fully grow to hate Rose's character. Annoying, whiny, dismissive and selfish. I suppose that indicates good acting, that I had such a strong reaction to her?
The soundtrack was interesting and had some odd choices, but it fit with the moments. The acting was fair, but very poor on the part of Officer Thwaites. His odd behavior and strange, creepy way of speaking and looking at them had me thinking he would be a "bad guy". Nope - just weird, apparently.
The plot was weak and never reached an adequate conclusion in my view. The action scenes were completely random, without enough back story as to why she would act that way. Just crazy? Lame.
It passed a (very brief) amount of time while I was working, but not at all worth seeking out or re-watching.
