1883 (2021)
The Taylor Sheridan curse.
This could have been could, but judging how season 4 of 'Yellowstone' went I could have predicted that this was not going to be good. The problem with Sheridan is the writing. 'Yellowstone 4' was a complete mess, so much that it turned ridiculously hilarious. His latest move 'Those Who Wish Me Dead' was a mess, that other show 'Mayor If Kingstown'..........a total mess! What is it with this guy?
'1883' is supposed to be a settler's story, about a group of German settlers traveling west through the great American country...........I've just watched episode 8 and they're still in the same prairie they were 5 episodes ago.........why? Because absolutely nothing happens! And whatever language the Germans are speaking, it's not German (at least I couldn't understand a word of it, my German is far above average). But, the Comanche Indians speak American English fluently.
Tim McGraw plays James Dutton, Yellowstone's John Dutton's ancestor........we assume because of the name Dutton, there's nothing else to make the link. All he does is listen to the wise words of Sam Elliott's character Shea, tries to look after his somewhat rebellious daughter Elsa. Elsa first falls in love (and has sex with) one of the accompanying cowboys, that guy dies...all in the same episode...Dutton hated it at first that one of his men was messing with his girl. Standard storyline. Then, just a few episodes later, Elsa is doing the Comanche Indian who also helps the group.......after he jumps her to protect her from a storm. Elsa's narration doesn't add much to the story either. Again......nothing happens, the caravan ain't moving, they're still in the same prairie.......only two more episodes to go. A lot of dialogue about God knows what........Sheridan, stop this!!!!!!!
This is so bad, I want to know how this will end........oh, wait........the first scenes of episode one shows us how it will end.........they all die, those Indians are savages!!!!
This is the worst of Sheridan so far. I loved 'Sicario', also 'Hell Or High Water' and even 'Wind River'........op next will be '6666', another spin-off from 'Yellowstone'.......oh Lord.
I can't believe this is getting so many high ratings.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
This is not a movie about wildfire-fighters.
I watched this mainly because I liked previous Sheridan movies like Hell Or Highwater and Wind River, the trailer made it look like a movie about wildfire fighters with some thriller/crime aspect.
All characters in this movie lack any substance. Jolie is the wannabe tough girl traumatized by a firefighting incident, her (male) colleagues are nothing more than foul mouthed rough boys and there's really nothing more to them. Aidan Gillen and his buddy (forgot his name) play evil villains who go around brutally killing people that cross their ways on orders of some company that we hardly learn anything about. Then there are the father and the boy who only tell a little bit in the car before dad killed by the villains and the boy is on the run....... Then there is the policeman with the pregnant wife who also cross the villains. We know nothing about them, apart from that they are a bi-racial couple and she knows how to kill bad guys.......nice, I guess.
Jolie helps the boy, and it's very predictable where all this will end. Oh, there's a wildfire (started by the villains, of course) which serves not much more as just a background. Lots of swearing, shooting and killing and there's your R-rated movie.
Not much more about the boy or his fathers secrets, we see helicopters fly over the Montana forests, zoom out, end credits.
Very disappointing, and if you want to see better scenic shots of Montana I'd suggest you watch Yellowstone, which also has Sheridan's involvement.
Infidel (2019)
This movie is absolutely horrible!
What have I just watched? A half-assed thriller with a horrible script, horrible acting, horrible cinematography, pushing a Christianity agenda and Islamophobia (it's Dinesh D'Souza after all). Jim Catweazle (Caviezel) shows what a terrible actor he is and why he has shown nothing after Gibson's 'The Passion', I really hope he will go back in hiding again.....this time in shame. All the bad guys (Iranian Muslims) speak perfectly English (also to each other), and the main terrorist even has an East-London accent ('mate', 'innit'). It's all so embarrassing, and so is the story. This is not even a B-movie, the special effects are down very cheap as well. This is all about portraying Christians as the people who are really persecuted by those bad & evil Muslims.
This is the worst movie I've seen in 2020, maybe even in years..........avoid at all costs.
Yellowstone (2018)
7 episodes in......what is the story?
.....really, what am I watching? There is no storyline? Things happen without any consequences, people kill others with impunity, absolutely no follow-up of events. The characters are almost all unlikable and some silly stuff happens (again without any follow-up), like the kid dug up a dinosaur skeleton outside his trailer-home.....just like that. I'd go crazy about a dinosaur skeleton in my garden, wouldn't you?? It took me 7 episodes to find out that one of the Dutton boys is a politician......what's his agenda? Is the Native American guy the bad boy??? What was the deal with the Chinese tourist group who were taking selfies with a bear? And why did two of them have to die falling of that rock wall? Again, it happened and there is absolutely no mention after that.........it starts to get annoying.
Look how much I've written already BEFORE I start talking about Kevin Costner..........this man is an Oscar winner, what is he doing here?
I'm a fan of Taylor Sheridan's other work, 'Hell Or High Water' and 'Wind River' wee both good movies, what is this?
The cinematography of the scenery is beautiful though........
White Lines (2020)
Netflix continues to offer trash
This is truly bad. The writing is horrendous, so is the acting, not to mention the editing. I had to stop watching halfway episode 2, that hardly ever happens...... Netflix' offering is in a steady quality decline.
Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning (2020)
Unwatchable because of the continuous background 'music'
I couldn't finish this, even though I really wanted to. The background 'music' never stops, completely distracts of what the people have to say.....it is downright annoying. It is too loud in the mix.
Surviving R. Kelly (2019)
Season 2, what's up with the 'background' music???
Season 1 was an excellent documentary about this horrible man and the story of his victims. Season 2 is almost unwatchable due to the continuous overwhelming 'background' music that accompanies the interviews with the people involved........a shame.
