This Is Me... Now: A Love Story (2024)
Two stars too many
But I have to acknowledge the visuals/ CGI work. One star for that. They were too good for this project.
The other star is for the Zodiac Love Council. Although many signs were missing, and some had very little to say (Trevor Noah, a missed opportunity) or very stupid lines (Sofia Vergara, another misused actor). That should have been the real movie!
The rest was a trippy musical, meme material, nonsensical movie. I fast forwarded a lot because it was cringey most of the times.
This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story, is a vanity project of the highest order. But hey, she envisioned it, wrote it and paid for it. Good for her!
Missing (2023)
Everybody: it is COLOMBIA not Columbia!
"Missing" lacks the novelty of its incredibly clever predecessor "Searching" , but it's entertaining enough. In this film, a technically savvy 18 year old girl is looking for her mother, who went on vacation to Colombia with her new boyfriend (and didn't return home).
The movie is very well edited, hence it is fast paced, which in turn doesn't give you time to stop and think of the implausibility of some twists and turns.
Nevertheless, it is well acted, especially the main character June (Storm Reid) and Javi (Joaquim de Almeyda).
All in all it is a fun movie to watch and play online detective .
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Don't start this series late at night!
You'll end up like me, binge watching it until 5 AM (and I don't even know anything about chess). Very well written, directed and acted.
Carnival Row (2019)
Boring...
I had great expectations, but I couldn't get past the first 45 minutes of the pilot. The plot was cliché and slow, the characters were unappealing (no matter how fancy, long and confusing their names were). The sex scene felt out of context (like saying: see? We can be like GOT too!) The cinematography, wardrobe and the make up were good (hence the three stars). Such a pity!
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Is this from UK?
It started up pretty well, but then it turned to be another soap opera. I didn't read the books but I can tell they are chick lit/ fantasy... anyway the story is interesting but the director could have filmed it with more drama and atmosphere and the script doesn't match with how good the actors are. Some dialogues are terrible! I feel bad for the actors!! I thought that being from UK, the series would have more character development and darkness. But it is so... "she is so powerful, pretty, kind, perfect " "he is so handsome, powerful, etc, etc" Will I continue watching? Hell yeah!
Reverie (2018)
So so show until episode 8...then I stopped watching.
This is a predictable but somewhat entertaining show. The premise is excellent, the writting mediocre. In spite of everything, we kept watching it with my daughter ... up until episode 8. The ignorance they showed in this episode about chilean culture was unspeakable... do they think that all latin american people look, dress and speak like mexicans??? Why would they write an episode about chilean 1973 coup d'etat without any real reference?! The kids manage to cross the border? Where? USA?! Because they end up all there in the end, right? Don't they know any geography? (It is in southern South America) They spent thousands of dollars making a show but couldn't bother googleing anything about the country? Why even bother to write a show about Chile if you know nothing about it!! I am not even chilean and I felt it was a disgrace.
