Anyone But You (2023)
Very cute, predictable, but cute.
Forget the fact that this is loosely based on Shakespeare. Forget the fact that is predictable in just about every way. But if you remember that this is a romcom and isn't meant to win any awards or have the best plot, and you remember to just want to watch a film that is fun and easy to watch, then this is for you. It's like a 90's romcom, and I mean that in the best way. The characters are flawed, but fun. The plot is predictable but still enjoyable. The acting is just above ehhh. But if you like romcoms, half naked (and more than half naked) beautiful people, and some beautiful Australian scenery, than you'll enjoy this movie.
The Beekeeper (2024)
Doesn't deserve the bad reviews
This film doesn't deserve the bad reviews. If you are going into an action movie thinking the plot is going to be perfect, then maybe action isn't your genre. If you're going into it wanting to be entertained, with lots of fight scenes and things blowing up, then you'll enjoy this movie. Think of something along the lines of The Equalizer meets James Bond. It'll even make you laugh a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a sequel or two. Is Jason Statham a great actor? No. But is he great in action films like this, that are written for someone like him, yes. It's an entertaining.fast watch.
Hereditary (2018)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
I usually love psychological horror movies like this, but this movie is one of the top 10 worst films I've ever seen. I thought it was boring, the plot was convoluted and the ending was ridiculous. The movie left my husband and I checking our watches several times to see how much was left of it, which is never a sign that you're enjoying a movie. It seemed like the movie was trying to give you bits and pieces of a story that would be put together and make sense at the end, but no. It tried. But didn't succeed.
The only good thing I can say was that Toni Collette's acting, like usual, was phenomenal. The rest of the acting was fine, nothing spectacular or overly believable.
The Menu (2022)
Just plain weird. And not in a good way
I love quirky movies. Movies that don't fit into normal molds. The plot seemed interesting and was definitely something unexpected. The beginning of this movie seemed like it might go that way...and it did, but not in a way that we expected or enjoyed. There is so much going on here that the plot gets overshadowed with tricks that beg "look here" and "look there". Instead, we kept looking at our watches bored and waiting for something else to happen. Sadly, it just doesn't come together as cohesively as we had hoped. At the end of the movie, we all looked at each other and asked "what was that?"
Windfall (2022)
Entertaining with a twist
I thought the movie was entertaining with some twists I didn't see coming. Is it the best movie this year? No, but it's different from the other movies that have come out lately, and I mean that in a good way. Great acting by all involved. Very Hitchockian.
F9 (2021)
Exactly what I anticipated
Look, if you're going to see a movie with a great acting and a terrific plot, then you shouldn't be watching this or any other FF movie. But if you want action, explosions, and 2+ hours of entertainment, then you've come to the right place. I love the franchise (I don't count 2 Fast, 2 Furious or Tokyo Drift as real parts of the franchise). This didn't disappoint.
The Equalizer (2021)
I actually liked it
I don't understand the bad reviews. Does it make a lot of sense? No. Is it 100% believable that Queen Latifah is an ex-CIA agent and can kill a man with her bare hands? Also, no. But, was it enjoyable and better than the other drudge that they've been airing lately. Yes.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Too long, too predictable, too much of a let down
Look, I knew not to expect an Academy Award winning movie, but I figured the plot would be a bit more fun. The first 10 minutes of the movie were interesting. The rest was either too predictable, complete nonsense, or left me checking my watch to see how much longer until the end.
The whole sister/email plot line was ridiculous. The whole "house is empty because the owner has been dead for months, yet the dog is still living there". Really? No security cameras at the restaurant? Come on.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Funny and Surprisingly Touching
I didn't know what to expect when I started watching this film. All I had heard about it was that it was about a young German boy whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. Oh, and Scarlett Johanssen was in it.
I was surprised at how funny the majority of this movie was, and how sad and touching it is in others. It was an unexpectedly great film.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Love Tarantino - disappointing movie
Husband and I love Tarantino and were very excited to see this film. After the first 20 minutes or so, we became so bored that we contemplated leaving the theater. We didn't, and stayed for the whole thing, but the only truly interesting and exciting part was the last half hour or so. Very disappointed.
The Happytime Murders (2018)
Much better than I expected
I was honestly expecting to be disappointed in this movie...and I'm glad I wasn't. It's raunchy, which I like, but the jokes are funny and there is actually a plot. Not a movie to watch over and over again, but definitely something good for a laugh every now and then.
Death Wish (2018)
Fun action flick
If you look at this movie in its own, instead of as a remake of what some consider to be a classic, this version of Desth Wish is a fun action flick. Is the acting incredible? No. Plot entirely believable? No again. But if you're looking for a fun 2 hours, with lots of action and laughs, you'll enjoy this movie.
