The Movies That Made Us (2019)
How do movies get made
I remember hearing a quote quite a few years ago. The quote went something like this. 'It is a wonder movies ever get made.' This series brings light to that quote. The end goal of a movie is to entertain, but it must make a profit for the studio. Therein lies the rub. This is an excellent series that is heart felt. It shows the determination that is necessary to follow through to completion when up against tremendous adversity. I like how each episode ends highlighting one of the key players to the success of each movie. It seems that is the magic ingredient for success. That single person that has the vision to believe in it. All that trial and tribulation clearly reflects in the movie that we as an audience enjoy. Thanks Hollywood.
¿Quién Mató a Sara? (2021)
Very good mystery drama
Just a short review here. I started watching this on Netflix and found it very compelling. Compelling enough to write this review. The series is very good quality and not without humor considering the dark nature. A couple scenes I found humorous was when Rodolfo had a sleepover at Alex's place. Rodolfo was snuggled up with Sara's stuffed animal for comfort. Another good scene was the family confrontation at Jose and Lorenzo's dinner party. I thought the family just might have had a chance to sort things out, but Jose had to let a devastating secret out of the bag. Anyway, the photography speaks well for the series. There are subtle shots that may go unnoticed if you don't pay attention. For instance, one shot fades into the morning sun as it reflects off a huge city skyscraper. It was magnificent. I guess what I'm saying is don't judge this series on just a few elements like the writing or the acting. You will miss the full enjoyment of watching it otherwise.
Better Call Saul: Bagman (2020)
Double WOW
I couldn't believe how good this was. All done so well. Vince held everything back for this episode. I especially loved the little subtle spots. For instance, Saul's expression perfectly framed in his Esteem's side view mirror as gunfire played out. And, Mike. Who knew! I will say I may have just noticed a certain controlled giddiness from the actors playing these parts. It's really that good! Wow.
House of Cards: Chapter 33 (2015)
Best episode yet
I found this episode to be the best written yet. I find it incredible that I'm actually moved , at times, by the actions and feelings expressed by both Francis and Claire. Frank is clearly diabolical, but to watch him express the sensitive feelings he does at times can make me forget that facet. For example, when he explained to the writer his wife planted tulips 'here,' he announced it with such understated emotion and love for her it becomes hard not to care about him despite past deeds. I guess that's what makes him so dangerous to those who defy him. I must say this season is decidedly different from previous ones and still very good.
