Blades of Glory (2007)
OMG! I can't look at Will Ferrell the same ever again!
First off, I knew this was going to be another stupid-funny movie. When I seen Will and Jon on the ice together skating like couples, I laughed so hard, I could have pi**** myself! From Ferrells cast name of "Chazz Michael Michaels". To Heder's 'swan' suit. I don't know where to begin. The movie itself was entertaining, and had many laughamatic moments. Will Arnet played Stranz Van Waldenberg a jealous rival, along with Amy Poehler as Fairchild Van Waldenberg his skate partner sister. They both rag on Jenna Fisher who plays the "cinderella" (Katie Van Waldenberg) of the story. Stranz and Fairchild boss around Katie to do all their spying and dirty work, and hold the death of the parents over their head, and constantly play an ongoing act to hurt Katie. The movie is chock full of surprises. I can't look at Will Ferrell the same ever again, after seeing this movie. I'm sure if you choose to see it, you'd agree with me!
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Hats off to the SOTD team!
When I heard the SOTD team was making another movie, I was like OMG I HAVE to see it! I went out and seen it at the theatre, and I must admit, I was pretty amused. It's some pretty funny stuff. It had a solid story line, good actors and moved along quite nicely. It is basically about this awesome cop, who goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is the best of the best, and it makes his comrades, and superiors look bad. So, they bump him of the city beat, to a hick town with no action so that he can't make everyone look so bad. While in town his first night, he seems to enforce the law to the extent. He about arrests the entire town from underage drinking to looking at people the wrong way. He even arrested his partner - not knowing it was his partner until the next day. It is a pretty good flick, and my hat is off to the SOTD team, they got past the first movie, and I think we'll see more of the SOTD team's movies in the future!
The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves.
When I heard that the Dukes of Hazzard was going to be remade with current actors and a solid script, I was like, "alright, I'll give it a chance, it's not going to be better than the first, but we'll see what happens." Well, I saw what happened. I saw a great late 70's/80's show that was a classic, basically humiliated by Hollywood. It's so sad to see that Hollywood scriptwriters cannot come up with something original these days. They are seeming to take a great show that had a great target audience, and try to "REMAKE" the classic show. HEADS UP Hollywood... IT AIN'T WORKIN!!!! Anyway, more about the show. I think they could have casted a better actor than Sean William Scott (Stiffler from American Pie) to play Bo. I'm sure that John Schneider is definitely disappointed with how his character was portrayed and taken advantage of. Also, Get for real, Johnny Knoxville, as Luke Duke. How low can you go?? A crappy jackass actor to play lovable Luke. This sickens me. Also, I'll give Jessica Simpson is a beautiful woman, but her acting sucks. Catherine Bach who played the original Daisy, was smart, sexy, strong, opinionated and a good IL' southern girl. She was every little girls role model growing up! (I owned the doll and the Jeep - thank you very much!!!) Anyway, Jessica Simpson played a smart ass, 2-bit slut as Daisy Duke. Daisy never was blonde. Why did they have to cast her. Jessica Alba would have played a great Daisy Duke. She can speak with a great southern accent, and she is gorgeous, and would have done a wonderful job. Anyway, I'd like to say that this movie blew something fierce. I feel like I got ripped off by paying $8.50 for tickets, and they should refund my money. If you like the Dukes of Hazzard (the original series) don't see this movie. It'll just upset you. CMT (country music television) plays the reruns of the Dukes all the time later at night. So set your TIVO's and go with the real thing, not the imitation on the big screen in Hollywood.
Wedding Crashers (2005)
Wedding Crashers is the next generation in comedy
I'm a huge Vinnie Vaughn and Owen Wilson fan! Just their names made me go see this one! Vince and Owen have great on screen chemistry. It wouldn't surprise me if we'd see more movies with the two paired up after Wedding crashers. The movie itself was really enjoyable, and had many, many laughs. It has it's share of nudity, and language which made it earn it's "R" rating, but it is a great flick overall! I'm sure that this film will soon be a classic. Like other classics such Chevy Chase's National Lampoon, Starsky and Hutch, Clerks, and Porky's. The list goes on. If you haven't see this movie yet, make it a point to, you won't be dissatisfied in any way. Looking forward to Wedding Crashers 2!!!
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
It was OK
I wasn't blown away by this last film by Lucas. I seen it a while back, and now I am finally getting around to post my thoughts about it. I was listening to all the hype like "Oh, it explains everything, and that everything will come full circle and you'll understand it all." Well, yeah it summed up everything. But, I personally think that Lucas is far more imaginative than having Vader burned up in a lava flow. It could have been better. Lucas is a genius, and I expected SO much more. So much more of the love between anakin and padme, more examples of what lured anakin to the dark side, and more problematic incidences tearing him and padme apart. Anyway, I'm bummed, I don't hate it, but I don't like it either. :0| Neutral :0|
Ju-on (2000)
Creepy ... It was Scary!
This film is another indie flick that I recently had the opportunity to view. I can say that it was truly creepy and eerie in so many ways! I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so I won't elaborate on the scenes! However, this movie actually scared me! My hat is off to Takashi Shimizu for making this film with the tight budget restraints that he had to work within! He definitely pulled off a winner! However, when it was redone for the American audience in "The Grudge" it lost a lot of it's creepiness and dark ambiance. You can't remake horrific perfection. This is the one movie that started it all! Ringu, The grudge .. all followed. Takashi is an amazing director. Creating an eeriness that you feel from the beginning, and having you biting your nails throughout the entire flick - he makes you want to hide into the arm of the person your viewing this movie with, or sulk down and peek out of a pillow! I do enjoy a good scare, and today's movies lack just that. I look forward to seeing more of his films! If you get a chance to see this film, do so - horror fans --- you'll appreciate it!
13 Seconds (2003)
The visual images are graphic and gory ..... Kudos to MALEFACTOR studio!
Recently, I had the opportunity to view this low-budget horror flick. I would like to share my thoughts regarding this film. With many lower budget films, sacrifices are made to be able to complete the film within their budget allowed, and this film is also subject to just that. I must admit, that the acting was definitely the weakest part of this film. As I viewed the film, I was particularly annoyed with the actor/director, Jeff Thomas who portrayed the character "Davis". As a lot of indie film makers also act in their first movies, Thomas did just that. However, I found that every time Thomas' character would speak, it seemed as if he was 'overacting' and making love to the camera! His performance seemed 'wooden'. He would do a FAR better job being focused behind the camera, rather than in front of it. April Cole - (Keira) she also seemed scared to be on camera, and it was hard to hear her speaking in several scenes of the movie. I actually enjoyed the monsters - they were menacing. The performances by Rob Miller, Daniel Rain, and Kevin Kuras were the best in this film. They actually acted while the others just seemed to 'be there'. The one and only great part of the movie that I have found, was hands down - The Special/Visual effects that were done by Malefactor Studio. Rob Miller and his team created nail biting scenes that made you just cringe - and not mention jump out of your seat! There was a scene in the movie that created such a visual of 'Sidetracks' character, where he actually bites at you - sending chills down your spine. The spfx were visually effective, and scary. It seems as if all the money that they used for this low budget film, must have been with the SPFX... all I can say is that it was money well spent! I hope to see another film done by Ravencroft with Jeff Thomas directing, as well as Malefactor Studios and Rob Miller's creative concept team making more intense creepy visuals! I would like to see what this "Dynamic Duo" come up with, if they were given a large budget for another film! I do recommend this film for all you die-hard horror buffs. It is a must-see - just for the visuals alone! You will enjoy the "living art museum" and "the upside-down crucification where the gent gets tangled with his own innards!" You have to see it to believe it! Get past the so/so acting and the story line is solid, and it is worth the rental.
