Love on the Side (2004)
Lost me at the end
A pretty good movie for the most part. I adore Marla Sokoloff! One of the most beautiful women on the planet by far. She carried this movie across the finish line for sure. The last scene, however, with the marquis man sharing a kiss was confusing and completely unnecessary. In fact,it felt like someone trying to make a political statement just so no one felt left out. Wrecked the ending for me. Too bad.
Painting Anna (2019)
A fine film
Okay,it's official.I am utterly and completely captivated by Emily Goss. This is the third film in a month I've seen her in and she just continues to impress. The film itself is very good and very inspiring. Highly recommend.
City of Trees (2019)
Enjoyable movie
I enjoyed this movie very much. The developing relationship between the main characters was very romantic and evolved nicely. Alexandra Swarens is captivating (gorgeous smile) in this role.I loved the way she slowly gets drawn to Sophia despite her willpower to resist her. Those high school crushes can be powerful, can't they?
Russian Doll (2016)
Not what I expected
Admittedly, I watched this movie hoping for some intense lesbian love scenes.Unfortunately, that never developed but a decent storyline and plot strangely did.I was very impressed with Melanie Brockman Gaffney and her performance.I can hardly believe that this was her first role.Very impressed.
Rough Night (2017)
Pretty funny but...
Tell me I'm not the only one to take notice that Jess's fiance Peter and ALL his friends were just a little too effeminate to be considered straight. This could not have been done by accident, especially considering the wine-tasting scene at the bachelor party.HUH? I was certain that that gathering was going to turn into a full-on coming-out party before the movie ended but it didn't,which was confusing because all the ingredients were there for it. Despite this the movie was fairly entertaining. Also,as much of a fan as I am of Kate Mckinnon, that New Zealand accent she attempted was atrocious. But I still love you,Kate!
Dark (2015)
Bile in the back of my throat
Oh my holy, merciful God.This movie managed to accomplish what thousands of movies before it have failed to do: Brink me to the threshhold of nausea from the inanity and ambiguity that reeked from this film. With the possible exception of the puzzling lesbian sex scene in the opening, this movie would have received no stars (Oops,I guess that's not allowed). Not even the prescence of the very talented Alexandra Breckinridge could save this movie;the primary reason that I watched it in the first place. What, for instance, happened with very noble Benoit? The last we see of him he is entering Kate's apartment, presumably to have sex,and then nothing after that. Are we supposed to assume that she imagined the whole encounter? Or was this film just directionless enough to not bother showing him after that;that he had sex with Kate and drifted away into the night? And who the hell did Kate sink the hammer into at the end? We're led to believe that it was her girlfriend Leah because all the audience sees is feminine arm.But why would Leah(assuming it's her) practically sneak into her own apartment without even announcing her prescence or even uttering a word for that matter to a woman not very well put together mentally(the prior suicide attempt) before creeping up on her? Makes no sense whatsoever and, trust me,I'm just scratching the surface here.Film like these ,however, give me hope that I can one day make my own film and have a better than 90% chance of it not being this bad.
Below Her Mouth (2016)
Refreshing
I enjoyed this movie despite the rather bland performance of Erika Linder. Taking into account this was her first film, I can give her break in that regard especially since she performed so well in the lovemaking scenes(Not much talking there,I suppose). But the true show -stealer was Natalie Krill. She was very convincing in her portrayal of a woman fighting her feelings and desires for another woman while engaged to a man but losing the battle bit by bit. A very beautiful and versatile actress is Natalie and one that I will look forward to seeing more of. The movie itself could've been better I believe had there been more effort given in portraying Dallas as a protagonist. Part of me wanted to see her fall in love and find happiness while another part didn't think she truly deserved it because of her insensitivity.Very much like Shane McCutcheon as the previous reviewer stated.
