Winter of the Witch (1969)
Oh wow...
Like most all of you, I saw this when I was probably in first or second grade, back in Hagerstown MD. Mind you, this was twenty-five years ago, but the thing still sticks out in my mind. Appparently none of my friends, or even fellow classmates remembered it. I thought, again, that I was nuts! Then, one day while I was substituting in a kindergarten classroom, I found the book. Luckily the kids had gone home, because I totally flipped out! Twenty years of doubting my sanity, gone!! (Well, that depends on who you talk to!) It took a little doing to find the actual name of the film though; all that came up was weird stuff. And yes, I would LOVE a DVD/VHS copy as well!!!
The Halloween That Almost Wasn't (1979)
One of my favorites!
I found this one year after trick-or-treating. I had no idea what it was at the time, but I thought it was hilarious. Of course, I couldn't find it again. My only issue with this gem is the disco music. Dear God, help me! I also loved Henri Gibson, along with John Schuck and Jack Riley. They were great in these roles. Then, like another viewer discovered, Disney Channel did a Halloween night, probably about ten years ago. I was able to record this, along with "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" with Bing Crosby. Why these are not shown, along with "Garfield's Halloween", I'll never know. Guess the world only loves "The Great Pumpkin". I do as well, but there's more out there, people!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949)
Fabulous!!!
There are so many great Halloween specials out there that never get aired anymore. This is one of my favorites. The mood Disney created scared the pants off of me when I was little, but I still had to watch. Bing Crosby's voice is almost hypnotic in this cartoon! The music is superb, like in many Disney films. What surprised me was that my mother had a 45 of "Midnight Jamboree", I believe that is what the song was called at the party. Wish she still had it! Anyway, I was able to record this about 10 years ago, and I have to watch it every year. This time around, I get to introduce it to my 13-month-old. Hope he doesn't get scared! He'll love the music, though, just as his mommy and grandma do!
