Wonderful 3D and characterizations
20 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have a 3D TV and this is my first online purchase. I love movies about animals, but I don't love movies where humans are demonized. To the credit of the movie, some were not. The animals were adorable, the 3D graphics were incredible and it was a lovely story over all.

The part that bothered me was the humans being the bad guys. Yes, we do stupid things. But when Sammy's best friend eats jelly fish, they didn't focus on the peril it put the jelly fish's family under. Or when the shark was trying to eat them, they just took it for granted it was nature's way.

Nature has given us a bit more skills than found in nature and we can do things that look a lot ickier when taken out of context. But on the same vein we have Fluffy, trying to keep his humans, Vera, saving her fellow turtles, and other humans helping save the wildlife they endanger.

Look at the overall story and you see that it all comes together. We are not evil, just misguided. Put the beautiful graphics with the lovely animal characters and enjoy the movie for the beauty of it and try to pretend they aren't crucifying humans. We aren't all like that. Not even close.

The last 10 minutes made it all worth while. I cried. I don't cry. To acknowledge nature needs humans to help them survive made the movie complete. For some reason, I have deep need to love a turtle right now. :-)

Forget Me Not (II) (2009)

Surprisingly good!
22 December 2009
I really enjoyed this. It's full of young people who have grown up on the Disney Channel, etc., so I decided to give it a try. The lead was on Port Charles back in the day and she's very talented and worthy of a meaty role. I was expecting another "Dead Mary" or something out of this, but the storyline was actually well done and interesting. I was really rooting for the characters as the story wore on and it delivered a good ending. The acting was good, the kids were attractive and it had a plot line that I had not yet encountered in "horror." The only complaint I had was that several actresses looked alike, and I had a difficult time telling their characters apart. They were secondary, but it was a bit confusing for a while. All in all, it was a pleasant surprise to watch a movie I had never heard of turn out to be quite entertaining!

Why the horrific reviews??
8 November 2005
Maybe it's because I had just watched Batman Begins (don't EVEN go there) and the House of Wax remake that I found this movie quite good. In comparison, it was quite enjoyable to watch. I wasn't bored, found myself scared in the appropriate places and followed the story quite find. Yes, there were some bad plot points, little things that happened and no one called anyone on it, but it was a horror movie, and I rarely expect continuity and for things to make the best sense. I liked the casting, and the ending worked out very well for my feeling about Maggie Grace as an actress. Tom Welling made a very nice leading man, attractive, compassionate and believable. The set was agreeable, nice lighting and color. I went to the movies to take the bad taste of the two aforementioned movies out of my mind and to have a couple hours of mindless entertainment. This movie filled the bill quite nicely. I'm sure it will become one of those movies that I watch every time it is on HBO or Showtime!

I simply don't understand the kudos for this movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I read the reviews and was very excited to see this movie. I'm rarely disappointed with independent movies, but this one was beyond my imagination. Everyone is writing what a whiz Miranda July is and how she's one to watch. The story was disjointed. Her acting was pathetic. I didn't feel any connection between the two leads whatsoever, and their scenes together were downright embarrassing. I thought the movie was supposed to have the theme of how technology makes interpersonal connections difficult and uneasy. But there was very little technology in the movie, and one character never used it at all. I can't understand how not using technology can leave you alone and unable to form close bonds. The saving grace for the movie were the kids. The two girls were interesting and the boys, as well. The smallest boy was cute, and he probably had the very best story. Oh! The neighbor girl and her dowry? I didn't get that at all, let alone how it related to technology. Was it because she read about dowrys on the internet and thought she would need one in America? If so, then she didn't get too far in her reading. All in all I was incredibly disappointed with this movie, and even more so in the reviewers who lead me to believe this was one to watch.

What is this movie about???
21 August 2005
I thought this was truly going to be a story about a man who wanted to raise his daughter in a specific way - "green" the descriptions said. Okay - I get that. So the movie starts, and there is a man and his daughter, but I cannot figure out their history or current story. There is definitely something not quite right about not only their relationship, but the daughter. She seems otherworldly, but not in a good way. So far out there that quite possibly she would never be redeemed. I am left to assume that this is a throwback to the hippy generation and somebody's misguided attempt to show that "the life" of communes and living on the land with no actual need for not only the necessities, but the standards, of modern day was the way to go and the rest of us really missed the boat. That's one ship on which I am happy not to have sailed! At least I know why I have never seen this movie associated with Daniel Day Lewis or one of my favorite actresses, Catherine Keener. This work was quite below what they are able to give. The end? I'm still shaking my head and rolling my eyes.

Stealth (2005)
8/10
Exciting, yet moral, action flick!
9 August 2005
Okay - I loved it. It was full of action - practically non-stop from the opening scene - and it had a message. Technology is only as good as those controlling it. The casting was top notch and made you really interested in the characters. Jamie Foxx played a wonderful, confident fighter pilot who knew the risks, Josh Lucas played a pilot who wanted to take flying, and the Navy, to its limits; and Jessical Biel played the best female pilot in the world, thrust into a high-profile position with only her fellow pilots as backup. The new stealth plane itself was created with a "mind" and watching it metamorphosize over the course of the movie was both frustrating and rewarding. A great score riddled with the most up-to-date popular music added to the intensity of the movie and brought the audience closer to the pilots. Sure, it could be called formulaic; but most important it will be called entertaining, which the home video crowd will no doubt corroborate if the don't get their arses to the theatre!

Awful!
29 July 2005
This is no decent horror flick. The writing is disjointed at best - the story never really makes sense, the story is too contrived and there is no actual resolution at the end. Lots of gore, and it looks great, but I found myself wishing too soon that the dog would put an end to them all. The sole exception was watching the lead bumbling around naked - not too bad to look at! If your hope is for a vengeful robo-dog story, this isn't it. There is no explanation of why the world is as it is, let alone why the dog is a robot. All in all, the movie is just too ambiguous, too uncertain of it's path for its own good. A bit more clarification and some connection to the characters would have made it more desirable. If you must see it, catch it on cable.
