Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
WATCH. THIS. MOVIE.
I know why there are so many negative reviews on here saying there has to be some kind of scam, or joke, that there are so many POSITIVE reviews if "Brawl On Cell Block 99": They are written by fragile, pretentious little soyboys who either didn't understand the point of this film or are just giving every movie in Vince Vaughn's filmography one star because he is a conservative. I feel sorry for these miserable fools. They are just lonely slobs with no substance, or skills, or girlfriends.
This movie wasn't trying to win an Oscar. It was made for real men to enjoy and laugh at.
The practical gore effects were unique and unrelenting. Vince Vaughn's performance was one of a kind; hilarious when it needed to be and heartfelt when it needed to be. If it had been Nicholas Cage acting in an A24 horror movie, these same "reviewers" would have been drooling over their phones and shaking with orgasmic glee as they typed out 5,000 word essays.
WATCH. THIS. MOVIE.
Chillerama (2011)
Great Halloween Flick!
I would have preferred shorter shorts and more of the connecting story about a zombie outbreak at a drive-in theater. Fortunately the shorts are still GREAT. It is a wonderfully executed homage to 50's sci-fi and horror, with a modern dash of sex and gore! It has become one of my annually watched "31 Films of Halloween". If this movie doesn't get you in the spooky spirit, nothing will!
Fuzzy Logic (1998)
Epitome of Great Short Films
This is the first short film I ever saw. I had just discovered Independent Films and had set my VCR to record "Dream With The Fishes" on IFC. Luckily I set the recorder a half hour early so I accidentally caught Fuzzy Logic before the DWTF started (I also caught the last 10 minutes of Hurricane Streets - another great 90's indy film). I'd heard of the concept of short films, but had never seen one, outside of Baby Huey.
Fuzzy Logic was a WONDERFUL surprise. The writer/director fit so much in such a short space. It is altogether funny, sad, and up lifting.
Every second of acting, from both actors, is sincere. This film, as short as it is, will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Jack Ryan: Cargo (2019)
Still going strong
For some reason, two years ago, the writers of Homeland decided to stop making a great show, and instead made it their mission to guilt trip their viewers for enjoying the previous seasons. They neutered the best characters on the show and became a pandering preach-fest.
Then 'Jack Ryan' came along and reminded us that no matter how virtuous we want to appear to be, there is still the very real threat of evil, fundamental terrorists who wish to punish ALL Americans, even the ones who disagree with some aspects of our government.
'Jack Ryan' is a patriotic story about patriotic people. Not far right... PATRIOTIC.
The action is fast paced. The special effects are (for the most part) practical. The story is complex, yet easily digested. And the acting is superb.
