Encanto (2021)
Too many songs.
I don't mind a song or two but there are way too many songs in this film. Most are forgettable except for the "Bruno" song which my daughter seemed to love. My son once again noticed that masculinity took a back seat which seems to be the order of the day with the current crop of Disney movies. As a result he came away less than impressed. The story line was also very light weight.
Robinson Crusoe (2016)
Good & Bad
What was good?
The animation.
The lack of annoying songs.
No woke messaging.
What was bad?
Crusoe was reduced to a bumbling idiot.
The animals were annoying.
There were way too many disasters.
The humour was non existent or at least landed flat.
The story never really progressed well.
The Call of the Wild (2020)
Decent film.
If you can overlook some "modern" elements injected into what is essentially a period film then this still delivers. The whole Family surprisingly really enjoyed this movie.
Overall a decent film but I still came away with mixed emotions.
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Family movie?
Ok. I'll start with the good.
All the acting was great, the casting is spot on and the direction, pacing, cinematography and editing are excellent.
The bad.
Once again Hollywood must inject some unwanted messaging by way of a blatant feminist scene that was cringeworthy and sad. Aren't our sons demoralised enough by this messaging?
How long must it continue?
The other bad part about this film is the last quarter. Without spoiling the film I'll just say that my family were less than impressed.
8-Bit Christmas (2021)
A ok film let down by certain elements.
I started out with high hopes for this film only to be subjected to pockets of woke messaging.
Elements of feminism and other garbage had to intrude into what would have otherwise been an ok film. Just ok though. Nothing outstanding here.
They used a fake Nintendo game to get their message across in one scene then there was another scene about colours and gender.
Stop! Just stop!!
The film is also let down by some slow moments.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
A film let down by feminist moralising
This film would have been so much better if they didn't constantly carry on about how much better women are than men.
I cannot give examples without spoilers.
Hollyweird must ruin everything they touch.
