Dhoomam (2023)
Disappointing
After the humongous success of KGF 1&2, and Kaantaara, Hombale Films' two blunders of 2023 are Raghavendra Stores and Dhoomam.
Positives:
1) A few ideas here and there (just a handful of them)
2) Fahadh Faasil and Roshan Mathews' performances
Negatives:
1) Screenplay, dialogues (lazy and horrible)
2) Performances by the rest of the cast (talent and money wasted successfully)
3) Music & BGM
4) Probably the oldest message to convey in today's era
5) Impact made - ZERO
A needless cinema for Pawan, Fahadh and Hombale Films.
Bottom Line - Please save 2.5 hours of your time by not watching this.
Karthikeya 2 (2022)
Not worth the hype
Director definitely picks the most fascinating subject, but falters big time in execution.
Sri Krishna's life by itself is a celebration for Indians, there are innumerable thrilling episodes which we have heard from our grandmothers. This cinema sadly doesn't provide justice to the core thought.
There is no depth to any character, or scenes or plot too. Weak screenplay/writing is evident. Background score is disappointing. There are too many songs on Sri Krishna on YouTube which are mind blowing, this cinema's music scores below par.
Cinematography is okayish, the locations and sets are good. VFX while narrating Sri Krishna's story is good, but it is sub-standard elsewhere.
Nikhil's acting is below par, Anupama Parameshwaran is wasted. Other artists have performed pretty well.
Overall, a disappointing cinema. It gives the experience of watching a 10 year old cinema. Definitely not worth the hype.
The cinema is making good box office numbers only and only because of Sri Krishna's and Karthikeya's blessings. Nothing else!
Love 360 (2022)
One of the best romantic thrillers in recent past
Pros:
1) Music and Background score - Arjun Janya's finest work (in BGM department) till date
2) Cinematography- extremely beautiful visuals
3) Performance-
Rachana Inder will win awards for sure.
I realised that Gopalakrishna Deshpande was under-utilised in Garuda Gamana after watching his performance here. He is too good.
Praveen doesn't seem like a debutant. He fits the role perfectly.
Every other character does justice to their character.
4) Story, Screenplay and dialogues
A very unusual story compared to the routine commercial ones that we have been watching. Climax and it's follow up Are the best in recent times.
Screenplay is the highlight, especially in the second half, where thriller element kicks in. No dull moments at all.
There is no scope for dialogues, as there are many scenes without a single line, yet beautifully conveyed through music and emotions. Wherever there are dialogues, they are well-written.
Technically a great cinema.
Cons:
First half is a bit slow - They have taken time to build characters and then narrate the actual story. In the process, first half might feel a bit slow. But it gathers pace towards interval and there's no looking back from there.
Overall:
After mediocre outing in Mungaaru Male 2 and Thaayige Thakka Maga, director Shashank is back with a bang. Romantic thriller was an unexplored genre for him, but he has nailed it in the second half.
Lots of twists and turns in the second half will keep you at the edge of the seat. Climax is mind blowing.
Watch it for its most genuine effort and brilliant execution. This is easily one of the best cinemas in the recent past. Must watch in theatres, as it gives you that experience.
