Nirdosh (2018)
Some aspects are good, others extremely poor
Imagine a woman being preyed upon by a lecherous neighbor; now this disgusting man kills another woman, and calls this lady to his home to blackmail her into his bed; in the ensuing struggle, she manages to kill him and escape. Unfortunately, there is enough proof for the police to tie her to the crime; why is it so difficult for her to plead that she has done it for self-defense? Only Bollywood film-makers would dare to make a murder mystery out of this; all hinging on this woman's misplaced sense of honor which would want to make her prevent her husband's illicit love affair from getting publicised. Too complicated. Maybe real life is this complicated; but if a woman is the victim of an unfaithful husband, and then a blackmailer, who then tries to blackmail her, and then she manages to escape after killing him, she is a heroine and superstar for me, not someone i would try for murder and put behind bars. So the protagonist in this story should have had a very different dealing from the beginning.
Dobaara (2018)
A promising storyline becomes insipid
Unsatisfactory at many levels. Too many unanswered questions.
In fact, too many questions go unasked. Events and situations get served up blandly, as if the characters and their motivations have no value.
The story tellers give in to the modern penchant of avoiding long dialogs, but there are no telling lines, no moments that reveal the real psychology behind the most drastic steps taken. All in all, the build up is good, but they should make it "Dobara", this time learning from their mistakes.
