Quan Zhi Fa Shi (2016)
I've binged watched the first 4 seasons at least 5 times already
I've binged watched the first 4 seasons at least 5 times already and I'm going through Season 5 as we speak. This was one of the first Chinese Anime I watched (Soul Land is another favorite) and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the Cultivator genre and I look forward to seeing what happens in Season 5.
Doctor Who: Spyfall: Part One (2020)
Talk about a mish mash of garbage.
I have been a fan of Dr Who since 1989 and James Bond at least a decade earlier. This is neither Dr Who nor James Bond!
The writing is horrible and the attempts at humor are pathetic.
1 leave the James Bond franchise alone.
2 get writers who actually know how to write science fiction.
The only redeeming actions where when the Master was revealed. He's got some elements of John Simm's that I like.
UFO (2018)
What could be better than an X Files type drama based in my hometown of Cincinnati?
It's refreshing to see this take on the UFO phenomenon set in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. I recently got back in the country from living for almost a year in Southeast Asia and this was a pleasant surprise.
I've been a fan of Gillian Anderson since the X Files and David Strathairn since The Bourne movies. I did get my degree in math so I could empathize with the obsessive mathematician...been there done that! Honestly I'm going to have to watch this one again just to see what I missed the first time!
Anderson's character showed some depth as the movie goes on, at first she seems to be a stern unyielding teacher who's star is no longer rising....yet its implied that she feels as if she can no longer contribute to her profession except by teaching. There are truths that are discussed such as you cant force things with respect to math (that's also true about some other aspects of life). Derek's drive is slowly revealed over the course of the movie as to why he is so obsessive and it shows how being a genius tends to be a lonely place because you are so focused. It's obvious that Natalie has feelings for Derek but I dont think Derek truly understood what the depth of those feelings were.
All in all I loved seeing a movie based in my hometown, along with the coverup/conspiracy aspect of the movie (with no one getting killed or disappearing although Derek and his roommate's laptops were bugged and Derek was followed) and the final answer to the question are we alone in the Universe (No we are not!).
