Incendies (2010)
Top ten films of all time.
Denis Villeneuve is probably the most prolific director working today. This film is a masterpiece. Denis is incredibly deft at directing actors and it shows in all his films. His writing is as masterful and taut as any of the greats before him. Thank you for making this film, sir!
Ozark (2017)
TV shows like they should be!
Season 1 could likely be the greatest TV series of all time. Jason Bateman is a genius and highly underrated artist. Well cast, well performed, well directed, and terrific music. Bravo!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Below average.
I really liked this director's previous films, most notably, Kon Tiki. But he did not do this franchise any justice. Johnny Depp should stop doing these, the performance is coming off as stale. This POTC is my least fav in the series. Sorry.
Tell (2014)
Someone sure didn't know what they were doing.
So I just downloaded this movie last night (for free thank god) because I have literally seen every other movie out there. What a complete ClusterF this was. The film was made in 2014 when Jason Lee's career had basically already evaporated but even still, dude, did you read the script or meet with the film student who directed this beforehand? Jason looked so disinterested on screen that it was distracting. He must've really needed ten thousand dollars at the time. Katie Sackhoff wasn't much better. Decent to look at but came across as apathetic. Cheesy one-liners, low production values, and a director with no clue had me rolling my eyes for an hour and a half.
The Road Within (2014)
Milquetoast and clichéd, very poorly directed.
I saw Dev Patel was in this and willing to take a shot at this straight-to-video title. What a mistake. The portrayal of someone with Tourette's syndrome was portrayed more like a caricature rather than a character. The other actors were also bafoonish. Really terrible direction, especially considering there were several very capable actors in this. What a waste. The writing was excrutiatingly dull and derivitive. Don't waste your time on this one, there are so many better made, more entertaining comedy/drama's out there.
Domino (2019)
De Palma must be senile. And the composer should never get hired again.
When I saw that Guy Pearce and Niolaj Coster-Waldau were starring and Brian De Palma was directing I figured this would at least be watchable entertainment. OMG all I could think of while viewing this was that De Palma should never direct again. And whoever composed the ridiculously annoying music should be punished for torturing the viewers. The screenplay is so poorly written and constructed that it is no surprise this was a Lionsgate straight-to-video bomb. Lionsgate distributes all the home video titles that all the other distributors won't touch. The acting is so foolish that it's almost unbelievable the actors would not boycott the release of this film. And the direction; honest to god, if you've seen Scarface or Blowout, you will be certain that De Palma is now senile. Stop embarrassing yourself, Brian, and retire!
