In the Grip of Evil (1997)
Disturbing
I recently saw "In the Grip of Evil", because I had wanted to study the formerly possessed boy's story from an up and coming psychological perspective. I had read quite a few books on 'Robbie Doe's' biography documenting the possession and the exorcism because I had wondered if there were any external circumstances that transpired in his home environment that psychologically triggered evil to be captivated by him.
I do have to say, I contemplated several theories (i'm a forensic psychology major): multiple personality (form of dissociative disorder) or childhood schizophrenia. But I do believe evil was involved here because of the unexplained phenomena the boy was able to illicit without being able to touch anything.
The actor portraying Robbie Doe did an excellent performance because he terrified the hell out of me.
This is a documentary not to be missed because they allow you to theorize your own ideas about what really happened to Robbie and his family.
Underworld (2003)
Love of Lucian: Anyone Else Upset They Killed This Lovable LYCAN off?
I was stunned and very upset they killed Lucian off. And the WAY they killed off. So cowardly. Kraven should of been killed off. Thank God he met his karma in Marcus.
However their are a lot of symbolism in the WAY Lucian (Michael Sheen) was killed off. For ex: Michael Sheen's wife, Kate Beckinsale and mother to his daughter, went behind his back, cheated on him with the Underworld Director, Len Wiseman and married Len. So again backstabbing. Well in this case, it was being shot in the back with silver nitrate. Kraven kinda represents Len in that aspect the gloating bachelor whose only out there to make a name for himself.
WHO ELSE out there LOVES LUCIAN?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
HP4 : Absolutely Epic
Y'know how from the beginning of a film you KNOW its going to be great? This movie wasn't just great it was epic in the HP series.
The World Qudditich Cup went beyond anything I could of imagined when I read the Goblet of Fire for the 1st time. Fred & George (played by the wonderfully hilarious James & Oliver Phelps)often stole the limelight but they were in their element and deserved the additional screen time they were granted. Sprouting beards after they tried to slip their names into the goblet and tackling each other afterward. Orchestrating Bets on the Quidditch cup & the Triwizard tournament. Did anyone else noticed how hot they got or Arthur Weasely :-) But just exactly WHERE was Charlie Weasely? He's only mentioned not introduced.
All the Triwizard Tournament tasks are well done, realistic and in my personal opinion don't look computer generated. I loved them all in this order: Voldemort's Resurrection, the underwater rescue & the dragons.
The trio were fantastic. I especially liked that they included the scenes where Ron & Hermione have their heated argument (same dialogs as the book)after the Yule Ball. Its about time they brought out the sexual tension between the two. Hermione knows how she feels and Ron's too scared and in denial to admit it.
Now is it just me but doesn't seem like Daniel has a crush on Emma Watson? I loved the Don't Mess With US introduction of the Durmstrang crew when they entered the Great Hall. Beauxbatons girls were funny upon their arrival.
The maze was unsurpassable and Cedric Diggory's death left you feeling shaken and haunted. It happened too suddenly. It was heartwarming when you saw Harry's parents come shooting out of Voldemort's wand and they assisted Harry you couldn't help but feel the tears streaming down your face. Time to name the hottest guys in the movie (in NO order of course): Arthur Weasely, Fred & George Weasely, Ron is definitely getting there, Cedric wasn't bad, Neville (I was so happy for him when he took Ginny to the Yule Ball - it was cute to see him being caught practicing waltzing alone in his room in preparation for the ball)and Barty Crouch Jr.
Anyone who hasn't seen it you're missing out on the best movie of the year. Especially when you see Moaning Murtle scoping out Harry in the Prefect tub, joining him and checking out his assets. Mad Eye Moody impostor really held his own and grabbed your attention.
I HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS AGAIN NEXT WEEKEND.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
The Exorcism of Emily Rose was not just a movie-But AN EXPERIENCE!!
This movie makes a worthy successor to THE EXORCIST but on a different level.
I've never been so psychologically impacted before especially from a film - it left my soul trembling.
Emily Rose was afflicted with not only demonic possession but epilepsy as well.
I myself have epilepsy (juvenile chronic epilepsy - gran mal seizures) and to actually witness Emily going into seize triggered my own memories of my own seizures. Having them and witnessing them are two different things.
I never realized just HOW FRIGHTENING they appeared to others. And now I do. The spasms. The contortions. Unable to control your body. I understand that (except for the demonic possession- NO THANK YOU!!!) all too well.
I am still unsettled but very impressed that this film chose to unfold Emily's story from flashbacks from eyewitnesses (priest, parents, sister, doctor & boyfriend) and not Hollywoodized it.
I really feel for Emily. The unexplainable terror and fear knowing you are truly ALONE in this. I thought that it was uplifting that the Blessed Mother spoke to her, "Heaven is not blind to your pain."
