Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003)
Dark, artistic, magnificent, shocking, Gothic.... all in one!
I first took interest in A Tale of Two Sisters when someone in another board mentioned that this movie was one of the two most disturbing movies they have seen. I looked this movie up, and got very, very VERY interested; obsessed, even. And just my luck, my boyfriend went overseas, and brought back a surprise for me: the DVD of ATOTS.
Now, I was a real scaredy cat (still is, a bit) back then. I asked around "omg iz dis moovy freaky?", but in the end, I watched it with some friends, and...
WOOOOOH!! I kind of knew what to expect because I read a bit too much on this board, but it was still actually surprising, and the ending brought tears to my eyes; *tiny tiny spoiler* Su-mi sitting by herself at the lake during credits.
And, yes, the movie has some scary stuff, violence and a bit of blood, but the main point of the movie is it's storyline. It is disturbing. Not in the ultra gory, sick way, but in the "impact of the story" way.
ATOTS can be a bit slow at times to create suspense, thus people who are looking for an action-packed-hyper-movie would be disappointed.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a psychological Gothic movie, A Tale of Two Sisters would be the one for you :D
I give it 9/10. No movie is a 10.
Sandstorm (2004)
Insight to the horrors behind China's persecution
This film is a simple, yet deeply moving masterpiece. I, being a Falun Gong practitioner, pay great respect for this film. Sandstorm is filmed in a very simple way, with no special effects nor much panning, but yet it is effective. It speaks out the truth about the China Government.
And,if you really concentrate, there are secret meanings hidden in the film. See this film (if you can find it), and just a little warning there is a bit of blood in it.
Overall, this is a very fine film and I would recommend everyone to watch it. Especially China Government Lovers or China Government Followers or China Government Dogs. watch the film and you will understand
Ella Enchanted (2004)
Disappointing!!!!
I went to the cinema with two of my friends. Though I wanted to watch something else, my friends stomped on my idea and forced me to see Ella Enchanted.
At first glance i thought the movie looked stupid. I was wrong It wasn't stupid at all. It was HORRIBLE.
I can't believe it! I like Anne Hathway, i like her other movies, but this is ridiculous. The acting was terrible, the whole plot was terrible, everything was terrible! The jokes were all wrong; too modern for the movie which was set at that time.
And to wrap it up, I'm proud to say that i haven't even read the book yet, and i am still terribly disappointed with this movie. my friend, who read the book, was disappointed too (obviously).
If you actually happened to enjoy this movie, I would say you need to watch much much much more other (better) movies.
