Come una crisalide (2010)
disappointing
First of all, nothing to do with a "giallo". You meet the killer immediatly, have a pretty fair idea on motivation, and there's no mistery to solve or be surprised by.
That said, the filming fits the 70's style, and the addition of Cladio Simonetti (Goblin) in the soundtrack is a pleasant add-on. Some egregious gaps in the plot (how does the killer manage to get info on his victims, like names and phone numbers, or enter the locked car of a stranger, for example) makes it all, in my eayes, poorly assembled. The killer himself is just a complete jerk, without a deep motivation for his aggression. Was hoping for so much better, ended up being a waste of time.
Green Room (2015)
My film recommendation for the weekend.
GREEN ROOM (2015). A great horror/thriller sees an old-school punk band deep in trouble in neo-nazi territory. Ultraviolent and gory, in the style of a Video-Nasty classic like I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (1978, 2010 remake); in other times, this would have made the banned list. Tense, claustrophobic, and feeling way too realistic/feasible, it benefit from a cast of talented actors, likeable characters, great SFX, plus the addition of the always skilled Patrick Stewart, whose character exudes menace in a matter-of-fact way... (yes, he's the bad guy!)
The Strings (2020)
Here's a strange one to check out.
Not your typical horror movie, THE STRINGS (2020) is a slow burning, atmospheric look into the mind of a music composer. Hauntingly portrayed by Teagan Johnston, a Canadian musician, in a beautifully somber winterscape that echoes her barren personal life, realities seem to merge and overlap within a ghostly situation, that could just well be all in her fractured mind. Reminiscent of The Shining, in that way. Don't expect too much action, though, or a clearly-explained ending; just some clever hints...
Personally, I like it, and her music too, there's a beautiful sadness to it all; just not most people's cup of tea, I guess.
