Cabin Fever (2002)
movie's horrible
I think I read someone els say it best. This movie was terrible. I understand that the toronto film fest launched this film, but to this day I can't understand why, or....why. I, mean I really watched this film with a genuinely open mind trying to look at it in many a different way, but failed to place my finger on how this thing got labeled as good! I wouldn't waist your time. worst thing, I hear they're trying to do a sequel. brother... Eli roth is supposed to be coming out with a horror film inspired by the movie "Audition." Audition was awesome, but I cringe to think what Eli's next film will be like.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
just couldn't buy it
maybe it's because I'm used to and respect the original so much, i don't know. But I had a hard time buying in to this remake. I thought it was a bit to staged and just didn't have the raw tension and grittiness as the first. I mean, when you watch Tobe Hooper's original masterpiece, you feel like you got to take a shower! now for people who never seen the original, I can see how they would like this version. compared to some horror films out there, especially some remakes, since there seem to be a gazillion of them. but gunner-Hanson in the original was creepy as hell. the scene where he whacks the dude in the head with the hammer like the slaughter-house is incredible. but the re-mastering of the print looked good. leatherface dancing with the chainsaw at the end is sweet. I'd say the remake isn't terrible, but check out the original for a true classic.
Nutbag (2000)
Insane
I saw this film and personally appreciated it's take. though not great, it was worth watching. I think any hardcore horror fan will dig its respect to old school horror. Cast wise, Mack Hail I thought did a pretty damn good job portraying a serial killer that was interesting and different. There's this scene in the film where he's pacing back-and-forth in his little apartment and the dude starts doing some like, primitive whacked out thing with his head! I'd had also seen his film "switch killer" (director) witch I thought was cool. good film by Palumbo the director showcasing some pretty hot girls. I mean it's kinda of raw, but I think that's part of it's charm. and I now am a Mack Hail fan in anything he does. If you've seen films like "Carnage road" you'll know what I mean. I thought the movie bit, but mack was hilarious. I recommend "nutbag for any hardcore horror fan.
Maniac (1980)
an atmospheric classic
OK so, this a movie you can't help but like (respect) in a morbid, bittersweet kind of way. It's a one-of-a-kind slasher that you watch and feel like you have to take a shower afterward. But the craftsmanship of this movie are not to be denied. Joe Spinell is awesome in his portrayal of the disturbed street-ridden maniac. the effects were uncompromising, and to this day, very realistic. The subway stalking scene is cool, very suspenseful. It's a bit of a shame that Joe Spinell wasn't featured in more films like he was in Maniac. It was definitely one of those characters he was born to play. Truly disturbing classic, but one to see for sure!
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
good then, good now
maybe I got a soft spot for this particular sequel. Afterall, part five I thought bit. I mean with no real Jason, and some over-the-top acting, It didn't exactly grab me. So when part 6 came out, it was just cool to see Jason back doing what he does best, slicing and dicing. and they almost had to bring him back from the dead. I mean, what else were they going to do. but watching it now, I just laugh at how they give the fans what they want, jason actually walking around in the woods, hacking people up. I mean in broad view! no suspense, no mystery, just him from whatever view you like, walking through the woods ALONE! unbelievable...and I like it just as much now.
Transamerican Killer (2005)
I loved this movie
I gotta' tell you, I first read about this flic at some horror sites. but it wasn't until recently I checked it out. I was surprisingly impressed! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a straight-up slasher and more entertaining than scary, but it did have its moments and I personally love films like this. It reminded me of the old throwback horror films of the eighties. has a decent amount of gore, and really good looking girls. the ending was pretty twisted, involving the heroin "Jamie" getting jiggy with the chainsaw! oh yeah, did I tell you it had good looking girls? for all the crap I've seen released lately, this wasn't too bad. If you like slasher horror i recommend it.
