Wonka (2023)
Best Wonka for me
This version of Wonka surprised me! I laughed, cried, and was enveloped by the story line in this one. Instead of relying on silliness, this Wonka had a great deal of insight and thoughtfulness. While gags and humor are abundant, this Wonka is more connective toward an adult audience, dealing with true love, respect, treatment of others, dreaming big, and never losing hope. I thought this version was way more functional and mature than previous renditions of Willy Wonka life.
I was captured by the perfect blend of fantastical fiction, the real feel good story, and the superior acting of every cast member. I think children would enjoy the past versions better. This one explores important themes in a mature manner without loosing the Wonka charisma. Fantastic! Thank you!
The surprise of the year for me.
Significant Other (2022)
Excellent thriller
Ignore the nay sayers.
Great setup, plot, and creative twist. Enough drama, comedy, and suspense to allow a variety of genre lovers to enjoy the show.
Actors play their roles with superior clarity A special shout to Jack Lacy who sold his role superbly. The PacNW scenery and hiking trails reminded me of the spaces I grew up in on the Washington Coast and the cinematography was excellent.
The twists and surprises are worth a night on the couch with your favorite watching partner.
Characters are believable and the atmosphere has the right amount of suspense. Loved the twist. The writing led me in, helped me dislike the wrong people than twisted it all at the right time.
I was pleasantly entertained.
Flipped (2010)
A beautiful and real romance
Cried, laughed, and was connected to this true romance flick. Highly recommend this movie. As one who found my "jewels" at 16, the themes, dialogue, and mature conversations leave the sad pessimistic modern tropes in the dust. This is a true love and romance comedy for the entire family. Fully engaged and fully in love.
The Godfather (1972)
Easy re-watch
Each decade of my own life brings out more nuances of understanding the life of this fictionalized mobster classic. Love the depths of characters and the skilled role play.
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Fun re-watch as an adult
Superb costuming for the day and appropriate cliché script for an apocalyptic drama of that era. While watching you must place it in its cultural genre and understand the panavision director motif.
In an eerie way, the same fear mantras beat today as that generation indoctrinated their offspring who continue to panic and pursue a Marxist utopia.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
I've seen MUCH worse
The premise was decent. Kill or be killed after FC. Use the most deadly weapon known to man to disable an alien world through a time portal. It falls down at times, seems rushed, and the conclusion screams of, "we ran out of money.". All that said, I've seen much much worse. The acting was palpable.
The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton (2017)
Excellent Political Commentary. Fair handed and clear.
I appreciate Steve HIlton's take on political matters. He's more than once presented a fact or viewpoint in a way to make me rethink what the mainstream media presents as newsworthy. As a result, I can safely say, I am positive populist too. Thank you Steve Hilton and the entire team!
