Red Eye (2024)
Great Binge Watch!!
Loved this! Ripping yarn. Binged all six episodes. Two leads actors very good. I will watch anything Richard Armitage is in. Really liked Jing Lusi and will check out other series/films she is in.
Pretty decent story, love a good murder/mystery/spy/suspense yarn, the added element of most action taking place on a jumbo jet was the icing on the cake for me. You do need to suspend disbelief half the time, but as someone else commented, this is not a documentary. I also loved that it was done and dusted in six episodes. Like an enjoyable holiday read.
Special mention of course to the wonderful Lesley Sharpe, raises the level of everything she is in. I'm off now to find something else like this.
This gets a nine for the sheer enjoyability factor.
Outlander: Allegiance (2022)
Some scenes work some don't. 8
Look, I've been a huge fan of the books for about twenty two years, however I'm not naive and appreciate that it's impossible to translate such long books to the screen in a short number of episodes. I also understand that some book scenes are hard to recreate for the screen. Having said that I'm pretty annoyed that they decided to make the birth scene with Fergus and Marsali into something sleazy. It was not! Fergus only did something, which he knew from being a child in a brothel, was helpful during a long birth, then eventually they decided to try intercourse to try and move it further along, which thankfully worked. Childbirth was scary in those days and Marsali was genuinely afraid of death. Only Jamie and Claire were in an adjoining room, and at one stage Ian for a few seconds. In the book I found that childbirth part interesting and informative. The other scene which misfired was one that was both hilarious and eventually sad in the book. The resurrection of Granny Wilson. That was a real belly chuckle book moment for me. Granny Wilson deserved more screen time. They could have extended that to it full effect and left out the sleazy intercourse part, which definitely did not translate well to screen.
I think Roger's character hopefully may becoming less um, diminished? Again I am a fan of book Roger, but so far, he has seemed a washed out character, (no fault of the actor). Never mind that Roger was very tall and handsome with glossy black hair and green eyes. His presence has been lost. I always saw Roger and Brianna as a tall striking looking power couple standing together.
Young Ian now, for me in this episode I finally started to see book Ian. The depth he gives his lines about little Henri-Christian, all of a sudden there was Ian rising from the pages. Book Ian is a wonderful character and I have adored how his character has progressed from a teenager through to the latest book.
Looking forward to the Christie story this season. So far so good. Also, fingers crossed for the reappearance of the 9th Earl of Ellesmore.
Whilst I have a few grumps, still a solid 8 overall.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Good to be back in Zamunda!
Just finished watching and am happy. Nothing will ever beat the first one, I can't count how many times I've watched it. This one, no laughs, some chuckles, but I still really enjoyed it. It's getting 10 because it does not deserve such low scores that others have given. It had a real feel good factor for me. I felt that everyone had a great time making the movie and it showed. Loved that all the cast was back, with some new faces, loved Wesley Snipes in this. Enjoyed the music. Actually had a little tear during Midnight Train to Georgia. Thank you Amazon, still worth my subscription.
Resident Alien: Love Language (2021)
Most laugh out loud moments in ages!
I wasn't sure at the first episode but then it just got better. My husband and I now hate waiting a week between episodes. It's funny, it's different, got a bit of mystery as well as the alien aspect. Love so many of the characters in this. Well worth a watch. Feel good factor is a 10 for me.
Bridgerton (2020)
Oh yes, very happy with Bridgerton
Great production!! I'm always unsure when books I like or love are translated to screen. I read every genre but still have a soft spot for my Georgette Heyer, Austen and other good regency romance writers. Bridgerton is very well done and I want the rest now. I'm very happy with the, A Knights Tale style slightly modern/different take with regard to music, dancing and costumes. The wit and humour of the books is not coming across but that may not be a priority for this production. Even so I'm sticking with my 10 star rating.
I'm already watching it over again and have new Bridgerton converts in the family. The proof was when I asked on Christmas Day did they mind if I watched the first episode just to satisfy my craving and then we could do whatever else they wanted. They then insisted on watching the lot! Never did that before.
I also liked that they used actors of colour to portray some aristocratic families or servants just the way it could have been if not for slavery or prejudice. Very interesting.
Thank you Netflix!! Thank you Shondraland!! Second series please!!!
