Better than most of Indian horror movies but miles away from Tumbbad
11 July 2023
With the young crew members, school background, and good actors like Ishwaq and Rashika, you ought to believe that this is gonna be one hell of a story and you're gonna be thrilled even more when you get to know that it involves some supernatural powers with horrifying small stories. The entire web-series circles around a peculiar friendship involving a homosexual boy and a meritorious student. With the predictable yet attractive twists and turns, this series somehow keeps you spellbound with good acting from Shrenik, Ishwaq and Rashika. Rest all young actors from the 2007 batch acted overly. Anyway, at the end you'll feel betrayed when the ghost was worse than Ramsay's and the story wasn't upto the standard Tumbbad has set but it still magnets you for a bold attempt in this unexplored genre for Bollywood.

Mili (2022)

Draggy but watchable
31 December 2022
As it is a remake, it cannot score more than 8. With a readymade story, the best you can do is outperform the original piece of art with execution and performances. I haven't seen HELEN, so can't really compare the two. Jhanvi has acted well with not much expressions and as horrifying dialogue delivery as Kangana has. She has a great potential but needs more practice. The problem with Nepo Kids is, they practise directly in movies. Anyway, Manoj Pahwa played a key role of Mili's father and somehow held the audience to complete the movie. The chemistry between Jhanvi and Manoj seemed forced but it was okayish as compared with the draggy screenplay. A. R. Rehman did a good job for the background music with an ominous touch for the first time. Watchable if you tolerate the first 30 40 mins.

Pioneer of webseries culture in India, set a great example
26 December 2022
Believe me, they started from where they left off in season 1. Probably the pioneer of webseries this has been but believe me that the team behind Pitchers has done a lot of homework to cover all the intricacies of startups. From beer to whiskey now, from the idea of a startup to running that startup now, these guys seem to reach a next level. Missing Jeetu for obvious reasons as he brings the desi pana of coders which I personally co-relate to. Baap of all Indian webseries. Claiming it confidently. With more than 7 or 8 years gap, they came with a nuclear bomb that isnt just gonna shake the new India but revolutionize the webseries department once again. All minds of TVF have come to one place and that is, Pitchers. A must must watch. 9.5/10. I can proudly say that this Indian silicon valley is way better than America's. And they have done it without Jeetu. Woh aayega to bhuchaal aa jayega kasam se. Wont give spoilers.

Your brain creates your reality, your brain is your creator
20 November 2022
What a mindblowing work by the creators of none other than the another one of the greatest web-series of all time Dark. The conniving characters, the ominous background score (one of the bests in recent times) and an engaging story with a bit slow screenplay in the first few episodes literally hypnotize you to complete in one go. Yes, it's as confusing as the Dark was towards the end but you have the remote and you can keep rewinding until you understand each and every scene and its relevance. Nolan reigns in the Sci-fi genre but seems, the Dark creators aren't far behind. Infact, they're at par with him. The first season revolves around a ship that goes from Britain to New York with some oddballs with their own stories/memories. The first 4 episodes build the characters well and this also stresses netizens patience but once you get through them, it's a roller coaster ride and nothing else. The characters and their memories might look boring initially but they all start making sense towards the end with a beautiful climax in the 8th episode. According to me, it's the best web-series of 2022 easily that came towards the end of the year. The negative reviews will definitely get better in the 2nd season when the creators of Dark will start connecting all the dots that some might have left considering them boring. You'll forget all the flaws as the story will spellbind you. A must watch for sure.

Monster (2022–2024)

A monster whose story was famous but this attempt is not gonna be
28 October 2022
10 episodes seem too long for his story, I guess. Especially, when he kills young men and eats them in almost all the stories. It could easily have been cut short to 4-5 episodes. But Evan Peters acted wonderfully. He truly acted like a monster, his dialogue delivery carried a good weightage. The screenplay is too slow but the performance was outstanding makes this limited webseries swing between good and bad. Some scenes were not watchable to be honest. The blood, bone, arteries and the heart, gosh, that was just too much. Apart from the bloodstained scenes which were aptly put as the subject was Dahmer, the father and the grandma played beautiful roles.

A must watch for techies
26 October 2022
There might be 1000s of startups with different path-breaking ideas and invincible revenue models but SPOTIFY during its initial days was more about its splendid team and failed attempts to get music rights. This limited web-series wonderfully displays SPOTIFY's journey with all its aspects through its core team members' journeys on screen. I really liked the categorization of episodes. As I belong to the software industry, I liked the Coder episode the most. Even the lawyer's journey was stunningly beautiful. The swagger Daniel Ek carried throughout the series was worth noticing and honestly, he outperformed all other characters by miles. It's not just Spotify's journey but it also called forth the struggle of music artists and singers behind this giant music instant streaming company. So it's not about all the positive impacts Spotify has left on its users but also about its impingement of the artists values and their remuneration. The court drama was bang on in the last episode. It's not all technical, so it is for all. A good web-series for professionals like MBA graduates, lawyers, techies, etc. A special mention for the background music which had to be top-notch for obvious reasons.

A watchable adaptation of Forrest Gump
9 October 2022
It's not the Amir's best movie for certain but not the worst either the way haters travailed to prove day in day out before the release of this movie. The first part is fun-filled with a good chronological series of Indian events starting from the withdrawal of Emergency in 1977. Forrest Gump was a timeless classic movie of Hollywood. An amazing film about all that surrounds us, from feelings to people to family that we do not often notice much. Just like the Forrest Gump, LSC is an incredible character who perceives everything so differently that we miss out most of the times in this race of materialism. The first half holds the audience spellbound with the variation of different setups from schools to race course jogging tracks to Delhi and plough fields. But I feel the Army Scenes could have been better. There were few comical scenes which perfectly fit into the well defined sequence but somehow, they were overstretched. Chaitanya played his part quite well. The worst part was Chaddhi Banyan business and its relevance in the entire 2nd part which wasn't just uncalled for but literally bemocked the Forrest Gump and for this they had to unnecessarily introduce a terrorist and glorify him. Kareena and Mona Singh have acted well. Mona infact was exceptionally good defying her age which actually doesn't fall into the category of mothers. The reciprocal relatedness with Indian political events for some unspecified reasons saved the movie, otherwise the 2nd part is just too boring. Lets come to the most controversial part of the movie i.e. Amir's acting. Well, the majority says he has overacted in the movie which I also feel he has overdone it at many places but he did outstrip his real self in few scenes in which the autism seemed real. TOM HANKS nailed that and nobody can beat him for this. Conclusively, it's a sentimental and thought-provoking movie that's very hard to write about, it's more a watch than just seeing the top level of the story and bemusing it.

Bad Acting
17 September 2022
Bad simply a snafu movie. Acting is so bad that you would not like to go on with the story even if it was good. I have already seen a desperate copy of MoneyHeist in first 30 mins. Arjun, please get the therapy done. You don't know acting means you don't. John gives a good competition to Arjun. Disha and Tara were looking glamorous like always and they are the only reasons to tolerate this movie. I could not go beyond the first 40 mins. Dialogues are simply horrible. Action scenes look like comedy. Arjun's expressions were perpetually misleading. Tara Sutaria and Arjun were paired up for a reason and the reason was acting.

That's how you murder the originality with mediocrity
5 September 2022
I don't know why Bollywood is so desperate to murder itself. You just see remakes, remakes and remakes. Without any brainy modifications or a tad bit of originality, they simply try to copy and paste. Their marketing team is also so dumb that they announce that the plot is copied giving the audience enough time to go through the original work. Ideally, this movie should have been compared keeping the original movie as base. But I'd review it without that. Akshay Kumar doesn't look like a 36 year old. He is not agile. So a bad cast certainly. Akshay Kumar is good at comedy and when he does serious roles like this one, the audience gets confused to laugh or pay attention. Rakulpreet was cast for adding the glamor but she looked like Shargun Sharma. She added no value in the story. But yeah, she was hot. Infact, the entire love story was just too unnecessary to have an actress in the first place. Shargun Sharma tried her best to be a lethal and deadly police officer but ended up making the audience laugh. The plot was copied so it was good. It's not even a single time watch. Don't waste your time even if you have not seen Ratsasan. Directly watch that.

A proposal of an impotable toast to the memories of GoT
1 September 2022
GoT's last season underwent a great destruction that HBO should not have dared to resuscitate the comatose DRAGON. I was thinking of watching it in one go but could not wait for long as the recent releases on OTT incited pity and definitely not an honest watch. The first episode attempted to hold the lost interest of GoT fans, thanks to the historical slaughter of the entire Westeros in the last season, with an uncanny yet less satisfying resemblance. They didn't even care to work on the soundtrack, almost copied that. The first 15-20 minutes are boring straight up. The moment you try to hit the stop button on your remote, they succeed to pull you back with a term "tournament". But again, proved to be another disappointingly unsuccessful attempt. Towards the end, the named heir of Viserys Targaryen i.e. Rhaenyra somehow kept the last hope alive that it's not gonna be the same. Anyway, it's too early to stop watching it as the cinematography, the set even the dragons look better and brighter. Too early to rate the entire season but the first episode somehow keeps the heartbeat ticking and compels you to watch the subsequent episode.

Delhi Crime (2019– )

Good 1st season but the 2nd one average
31 August 2022
I'd give it 7.4/10 collectively for the first 2 seasons. 1st season was too good with minimal flaws but the 2nd season looked too flat. 1st season gripped the audience till the end of it with 7 episodes but the 2nd one despite having just 5 episodes looked a bit stretched especially after the killing of the 2 men in the pronounced group. 1st season looked more realistic but the 2nd one was entirely fictional and it was just an inspiration from the infamous kachha-baniyaan group. 2nd season had unnecessary and comparatively enlarged melodrama of the families of Policemen. A lilliputian trip of Mussoorie helped 2 of the prime suspects of one of the most gruesome series of murders cut and run from the Police Station. Leave Delhi Police aside, will any Police of the world keep the prime suspects unattended like this even for a minute who aren't even handcuffed? The DP gets a call from a PCO but it was proved to be an unneeded deliberate scene as who called, nobody knows even by the end of the season. Also, the DCP just talks in English? Wasn't that unreal for Indian Police? DCP is a prestigious and quite a high rank in Police but English that too everywhere with everyone even with the DN tribal people? Anyway, even with the lousy plot and writing, the acting of the cast was top-notch. Shefali Shah, Rajesh Tailang, the main female conspirer, and a special mention to that guy who played the role of Chaddha, all excellent acting. Also, I think it was too dark, I had to increase the contrast to see scenes properly. There could be more scenes shot in daylight. Overall, I'll give 8.9/10 for the first season and 5.9/10 for the second.

A good blend of realism and fiction
28 August 2022
What a gripping political drama it is. Unexpectedly better than the first season with some top notch performances especially by Huma Qureshi. What a talent she is. Soham Shah and Amit Sial as Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar are too involved in their characters that you'd think that the entire history of Bihar had come on screen with no impartiality to any character with a pinch of excogitation and creativity. A perfect blend of castes and religions based politics that revolves around a family and an outsider and how they manipulate the people of Bihar to either remain in power or come into the power. I loved the role of Kalpana as well who I think has played the role of Prashant Kishore who helped Nitish dethrone the long running horse of Yadavs family at the behest of the Vajpayee Government in the centre. A must watch series. It's definitely 8+ so far for me.

Almost everything was bad but the story
27 August 2022
Watched Karthikeya 1 yesterday. Could not tolerate for more than an hour. What a bad film. Nothing was good. Maybe, I will give 2.5/5 for the story but apart from this, a third class B grade movie it was. Full of unnecessary songs. Totally unnecessary presence of the heroine. A typical Ramsay sort of thriller and comedy horror till first 30 40 mins with random scenes with no connection at all. Maybe, because it was a 2014 movie but the execution looked too poor. Acting was horrible. Hindi dubbing was okayish. If this movie is awaited, I will happily ignore the first part. Intolerable for any movie buff. 3.4/10.

Sherdil (2022)

Sherdil deserves accolades
27 August 2022
It's Pankaj's movie all the way. His screen space might be more than 90% in the movie. He delivered justice to this role as if he is born to do this completely and without qualification. The story was quite simple and screenplaying that for almost 2 hours looks a bit stretched and boring. Sayani Gupta's dialogue delivery clearly showed that she was cast mistakenly or maybe, due to the budget issues. A better female cast who could speak Hindi in Bhojpuri accent with eloquence would help the movie. The conversations between Pankaj and Neeraj Kabi in the jungle were avowedly dead on target. The religions, castes, different practices but all melt down into nothingness at the end has been portrayed on screen mindblowingly unless the delicate sentiments of few people get hurt. A good one time watch movie that stresses your patience to discontinue with the slow screenplay but deal with it as the end is quite surprising.

A good biopic of an Indian gem
24 August 2022
Rocketry - 7.3/10

A good comeback in the 2nd half and somehow saved the almost flat movie in the first half with too many deliberate unnecessary ostentatious totally randomly put scenes. Some of 'em didn't even have the relevance in the movie like the Rolls Royce thing, hydraulic engines for practice and no display of that in the movie simply puts forward the intentional KOHINOOR topic. Yes some chilling moments when VIKAS went beyond 135 secs but the superhero thing was completely uncalled for. The fundamental gap between the audience and the pace of the movie in the first half is like you run on a treadmill but the treadmill's and your speeds are different, so you will definitely meet the accident. The first half was just to show how great the rocket scientist was but with no continuity whatsoever. The 2nd half was the savior when the same scientist was jailed for being a traitor. The story calms down so does the screenplay and audience starts connecting and relating the marvelous yet irrelevant 1st half. Good acting, dialogue delivery in the 2nd half. Overall, a good watch but yes, the 9.1 is definitely too much. India needs to slow down in emotions and react to the right content instead of selling itself with biases.

Shamshera (2022)

Cinematic Brilliance with ups and downs
20 August 2022
Shamshera - 7.1/10 An honest and unbiased review without getting influenced from any ideology, religion, caste etc. That we today are trammeled in. I wish I could watch this movie in the theatre. Such great visuals to eyes. The vibrant yet so somber colors with great cinematography that justifies this big budget movie with some mindblowing scenes. This cinematic experience is what the audience misses on OTT platforms, hope the technology will resolve this as well in a longer run. Shamshera is a bold, unapologetic, period drama that revolves around the Khameran tribe who are lower in castes and shown as pirates/rebels. The set was just fantastic which gave the fictional characteristic that goes more in the lines of celestial bodies. Different sets for each juncture in this average story by keeping the era and the embellishment of tribes of that time were captivating and enough to enjoy this cinematic brilliance. Brilliant job done by Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt both. The story was pretty weak and the screenplay seemed too far stretched. The songs and music were totally a turn off that don't vindicate the parallel explanation of the story that's normally done these days through the background score. We cannot get Anirudh in all movies but music was not that great, simply. It'll straight up give you the flavor and feel of Bahubali and RRR. To be honest, if this was a South movie, the audience would love it because the bias Bollywood has to face these days takes away good films most of the times from the audience. I thank OTT that today, each movie has a fair chance to prove itself again. One more mention about the peotic display of dialogues would sound unnecessary and add no value to the movie in my opinion. The first 30 minutes of the movie test the patience of the audience and it goes smooth thereafter and will keep you on your toes till the end, good creation of suspense. It has ups and downs that will make the audience feel bored but no down for me was too long to discontinue the movie. For me: Cinematography - 4.5/5 Screenplay - 2.5/10 Background score - 1.5/5 Acting of the cast - 3.5/5 Dialogues - 2.5/5 Direction - 3.5/5 Costumes - 4/5.

A greatS movie
6 August 2022
Maja aa gaya in simple words. A very well written story and executed wisely with a bit of slowness and less spices when it starts off but its graph keeps increasing with pace and darkness after first 20-30 mins. I don't think the domestic violence could be presented on screen in such an elegant and humorous way, especially the second half. The innocence of Alia and her power to drive this movie till the end with the help of Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathews are truly intensely affecting the mind that how could a cute face can deliver such a powerful role with this much ease. Most importantly, it has shown both sides, that is, the violence of both the lead characters and even their stupidity and ingenuousness. It's a complete roller coaster ride ticking up all the necessary boxes of a dark movie including dark humor, emotions, laughter and above all other considerations, the bonds in different relationships that you cannot just simply get away with. This is for those who grouse about the content of Bollywood and curse it for remakes and copies. Technically, nice direction, the script was definitely good, acting was top notch of all characters with a special mention to Alia and Vijay, and even cinematography. The amount of emotions has been aptly put in so that it doesn't bore you and it also delivers a great message. A big thumbs up.

The Gray Man (2022)

A good action movie but lacked a good storyline
26 July 2022
The Gray Man - 6.3/10

Weak storyline, or say a very old plot of CIA agents on a mission but this time they tried to blend it with a direct head to head combat of 2 stars Ryan and Evans to give some weight to it. It is a very big budget movie, almost 200 million dollars which is somewhere near 1600 Cr INR, a lot could have been better. The bad part was the continuity in different countries. The Russo Brothers went almost all over the world from Prague to Coatia to France to wherenot, but just to show where the Agent can hide? That was unnecessary spending to be honest. And the same mistakes that most movies are doing today, how many bullets can a handgun shoot? There were some really good chilling action scenes. Dhanush played his role beautifully. He looked like the Mad Dog of The Raid. His fierce action timing makes you feel he is born for action but the world will be totally surprised when they know he is a method actor of India. Action movies don't need to flow simply and smoothly and are sensationalized in every 2nd scene. Sadly the Gray man doesn't explore any new genre and follows the same well established action and it wont stand the trial of time. It algorithmically tried to tick all boxes but fell short with randomness. The only saving grace were action scenes with a very weak storyline. Ana de Armas should be given more action movies. She is hot and the audience loves her actions. Watch it for Dhanush if you are from India. The last fight between Evans and Gosling especially with that small knife is too good.

TVF is getting stronger day by day with its content writing
23 July 2022
Saas Bahu and Achaar Pvt Ltd - 7.1/10

A good story of a middle class family in Old Delhi. Quite relatable for the lower middle class like me but lacked the pace. TVF is going deep very deep into intricacies with creative writing. Dialogues are average but the storyline is beautiful and the screenplay is slow. TVF can revive Hindi cinema. It can easily beat even the South Indian cinema. All it needs is a backup and big budgets. These IITians have made their mark in entertainment for certain. It is a slow burner series. A girl preparing for IIT was a charm for me to watch it. The lead role acted very well.

Pathetic is the only word that describes this movie. Poor acting, crunchy dialogues, bad direction, a few good action scenes, annoying music, over heroic, doesnt look real at all. An unnecessary love story and its screen space is almost half of the movie. Thumbs down.

Lost the golden opportunity of the becoming the greatest show of all time
17 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
ST last episode of season 4 - 6.2/10

Season 4 - 7.3/10

Lost the golden opportunity to conclude the series in the much longer season 4. It has one more season with more or less the same gist that there's a superhero fighting a monster which is known now with the help of some mortal kids. Eddie won the hearts in the last episode by his sacrifice. Max could have died as well but I think the Duffer Brothers do not believe in sacrifices of critical resources. Nobody dies. Monsters will always die with sacrifices of low rated characters just like Veerana or Purana Mandir of Bollywood. The music was great like some wonderful rock music but there were too many flaws to appreciate it. Too many means just too many. I tried to find the plotholes and there still are in this season as well. Some of them are: 1. Discussion in the parallel universe when you are running out of time.

2. El without much psychic power beats the hive mind of a monster with ease.

3. Will is an unnecessary character so far.

4. Nancy and Steve don't die despite getting stung up from the hive mind for almost an hour in the last episode itself.

5. Just for the piggyback, you try to get one more character of that junkie with long hair.

6. No display that how Henry changes to One. Both are shown parallelly.

7. Nancy, Steve and that lesbian went to kill Henry but they found Vecna there, how and why?

A timeless beauty of Indian Engineering Colleges
14 July 2022
The reason why Gunda is a cult classic especially among Engineers is its timelessness. This trend started in 2003 when Internet was mostly in Engineering colleges like IITs, IIITs, NITs etc. It started by IIT Delhi and Bombay, went onto almost all Engineering colleges' auditoriums and laptops. The poetic and obscene display of the dialogues went timeless. It was a cult and could be taken as exception as no other B grade movie got the same treatment. I still remember how thoroughly we enjoyed this movie in our fresher year on the big screen in our auditorium. Girls disliked it and for us Engineers, whatever is disliked by girls becomes classic for us. <3.

What a brilliant portrayal of such a simple story with one of the simplest plots ever. Drugs mafia, a criminal, an honest policeman and edge of a seat thriller with good fight scenes with all respect to physics. It was a semi masala movie with no songs and fancy. Direction was brilliant, screenplay super awesome as a simple story got 2 hours 14 mins with mindblowing heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. Yes there were flaws but can be avoidable as it is a semi masala in which the hero doesnt die and villains die even with simple blows. Brilliant acting from the lead. It was pictured in dark. It was so dark that I had to put brightness and contrast to highest. It was -0.2 for me. Otherwise it could easily touch 9.

Vikram Vedha (2017)

Brilliant portrayal of Vikram Betaal
29 June 2022
8.9/10

I dont think any movie in India has ever been better written than Vikram Vedha. Not even Drishyam, it was the best until this movie. 2 hours and 10 mins and not even a single minute with either a surprise or a new mystery. Parallel to Vikram Betal stories, this movie engages you from the first scene to the last. Seems no scene was irrelevant means the screenplay did the justice with the writing. Almost equal screen space to both actors. Both did their job well. The film is so well executed that even the role of Madhvan's wife has been justified and used mindblowingly. The similar concept of deciding the start and end points of the story first before the rest of the story works really well here. The interweaving of short storytelling of Vedha's life makes him as good or as bad as the good cop Madhavan. Although Madhavan had killed an innocent man Puni. Brilliant direction. I tried to pinpoint the mistakes but couldnt find any. No plotholes. Surprisingly, not a single flaw. All were smooth and connected with no question left unanswered. A must watch for all. It could be 9+ if I watched the original dubbing. Hindi dubbing I felt lacked the background score. Plus, the entry of the Vedha is one of the bests in the industry. He could have turned out to be the best villains of all time in India. Could be easily in top 3 who literally plays with the hero by hypnotizing him and driving in the direction he wants. Sethupati is a tremendous actor and did this with ease. Madhavan also didnt do anything extra. Thoda bhi over karta to dikkat hoti. He was subtle and calm but equally intelligent or at par towards the end. Although, Sethupati ki intelligence is demonic like Betaal but the decision making of Vikram also resembled the Vikram in Vikram Betal. It deserves a 2nd part.

The most complicated democracy in the world
28 June 2022
ANEK - 8.2 1st half, 6.5 2nd half. Overall 7.5/10 (more weightage to first half these days as if that isn't fancy, nobody will go till the end)

It opens a new door to Indian cinema which talks about geo-politics of the most complicated democracy in the world with 22 official languages with no national language and national sport as such. Why? Well, it isn't democratic yet to decide on one, the very oneness we miss as a country. This film lays bare the very dirty and polluted politics of India and its policies to deal with separatists. We Indians are at one side and the separatists toil to scramble the ladder of recognition but they are pulled back with two choices, either die or chant Jai Hind and be with us. Quite not fair, right? Well, for the majority of us, it is fair. The India is politics and not its people.

Ayushman's best work so far with no flaw as such. The North-east crew was quite brilliant. I loved the way they hid the state name and all jeeps had NE on their name plates. Great direction. Punchy dialogues. A bit lenghty and boring in the second half as the prologue of the movie in the first half was covered fantastically and it was all about executing that in the 2nd half with a bitter and gory war at 3 fronts. Won't give spoilers. Do not just join the bandwagon of that population which doesn't even watch and start criticizing just by seeing the names. A great movie buff decides all by himself. A must watch to know this side as well.
