Nattevagten - Dæmoner går i arv (2023)
Fantastic Stand-Alone flick
I absolutely cannot understand the low ratings. This is well filmed, well acted, and keeps the heart pumping. To give it a 2 or a 1 is not sincere and that makes it akin to a D-Grade basement exploitation flick. I'm sorry you didn't like the story, but give me a break- a 2/10 for the movie as a whole? Ridiculous. If all of your ratings on IMDb are to the extreme, then maybe no more reviews for you?
The feeling of watching an over-confident protagonist let their guard down and you're filled with dread? The feeling of relief when life is put on pause and you're living in the moment? A semi-plot twist that makes you question yourself? All here.
If you don't mind subtitles, this is a good movie if you're into horror thrillers with suspense.
Talk to Me (2022)
Flirting with disaster, until you're balls deep in it
Group carelessness. Does anything create more tension? While setting up for the eventual disaster, you at least become slightly relaxed watching these kids have fun.
Ouija Boards? OK Boomer.
Talking to the dead isn't enough. We want to become possessed and then act like no harm will come of it. Party time!!!
Honestly, I loved this movie for many reasons. Aside form the careless aspect that every teenager and his/her friends have- there are some great practical effects in this movie. The designs of the putrid flesh or quick images of a tortured soul in hell give Hellraiser and 80's flicks a run for their money.
The intro scene is confusing and then disturbing...but it starts off 90mph.
And if for some reason you can't stand it he main character? Wait it out, it pays to watch!
Night Hunter (2018)
Baffled
I'm a bit baffled by the negative reviews. Even more by folks saying this film is confusing, hard-to-follow, or dis-jointed. An original flick with great acting and a great reveal? It's not a masterpiece, but it still beats out many movies in this genre that are rated much higher. I'd say it's closer to a 6.8-7.2 but hey, if all you watch is on 10's then please send me a list of the three movies you watch on repeat.
I don't remember there being a minimum review character count. So here I am filling in the void, the morning after, sitting on the pot, adding words. Oh! I love this line from Right In Two by the band Tool...
"Repugnant is the creature who would squander his ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here."
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Hope you have a good sound system
Check out the reviews for Independence Day. People will complain about anything. Neither movie is destined to be a best picture winner- but that's OK.
The aliens are all you could have hoped for- terrifying, and well made. The plot is telling since it's called The Tomorrow War- it's a fight for survival of our species. The battles are fantastic and full of action, even threw in a few suspenseful scenes.
Just see the movie for yourself. If you enjoy either action, war movies, or sci fi...then you'll enjoy this.
Underwater (2020)
Zzzz? Boring? Not at all
Some folks need to quit watching trailers and having such specific expectations. I had no idea what this was about, but I clicked on it and was thoroughly surprised. Also, apparently, Kristen Stewart is a terrible, one-face actress? Not here, she's excellent. This was intense from the very moment it all starts kicking off. There is a sci/fi aspect to this, which only made it better in my book. Kind of like The World's End. Surprise Aliens! Kept me guessing.
The World's End (2013)
Come in without expectations and leave laughing
Anyone poorly reviewing this movie clearly had expectations set up from the prior two movies. This movie has all the quips and jokes the first two did- but with an awesome twist halfway through. Sign up for a drinking buddy comedy, and end up with an awesome sci-fi survival flick. It's my favorite out of the three movies, for that alone...but not by a wide margin.
I'm Your Woman (2020)
Acting is decent.
You aren't told much during the film. As things slowly start to unravel, you have more questions than answers. There's a couple cool scenes but all in all you aren't missing much if you skip this one.
Books of Blood (2020)
A little Halloween treat
If you've gone through all of the Shudder and Halloween titles you can find, every time something new pops up it usually incites two emotions- excitement and skepticism. Most of the modern horror is a complete let down. And with the rare exception (Snatch, Crash) most tie-in movies are even worse. This is a little gem, though. You won't be able to tie together the stories, and you wont' figure out what the book of blood is. This isn't very "horror" like, but it does have a little gore and some disturbing revelations. It's a bit different than most, but with just enough traditional Clive Barker elements to keep the viewer satisfied. If you're looking for something new this Halloween, look no further than Books of Blood.
Girlhouse (2014)
Doesn't deserve low rating
First and foremost, this isn't pure SMUT if that's why you clicked on this title. Yes, the plot revolves around sexy women and cam shows, but the graphic content is strictly violence and gore. This isn't your typical slasher and it's not your typical "twist at the end" thriller, either. If you're a horror buff, make sure you don't miss this one. It's nothing fantastic, but it's better than 80% of the stuff on shudder.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Best Star Wars Film Since Empire
This is an excellent addition to the franchise. JJ really mended the rift Rian Johnson created. First off, the humor in this movie is fine. None of the cringeworthy BS from the last one. Also, the movie has a few "wow" moments that bring you back time and time again. Sure, a few plot holes exist and a couple scenes could have been done better, but all in all, this is a fantastic addition to the beloved franchise.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
7.8/10 but had to leave a 7 since there is a billion 10's
There are a handful of Marvel films better than this one, but they are few and far between.
The movie could probably have aired an hour shorter and been better. I almost dozed off a few times. Almost.
Things I liked:
Intro scene and the "real life" aftermath of Thanos
Thanos destroying the stones and living peacefully
Killing off main characters (iron man and widow)
The battle (with the exception of the all woman scene)
Thanos realizing he had to kill all life and start new
Captain America not coming back.
Fat Thor throughout the entire movie.
The rest was pretty boring and the Hulk was annoying.
Ragnarok, Infinity War, Dr Strange, and Iron Man were all better movies.
Sue me.
Don't Watch This (2018)
Ignore the 1* reviews...besides its over in a flash
Truth be told this isn't 10/10 tv. It's a fun time killer, though. At this point there are only 5 stories and I got a little bit out of each one. This isn't masters of horror so don't expect that. The "Keep Out" episode was by far the best one and I legit felt a bit of suspense and got shook up for a few minutes. If you need a quick horror fix, check it out by yourself sometime. All quick and to the point.
Mother! (2017)
Ignore the trailer and experience the emotions
This film is not what has been advertised to you. With that being said, it is a ride that starts off slow and picks up speed and then doesn't slow down for anyone or anything. The allegory is very clear and even if it takes the entire film to understand it, it doesn't take away from the emotions this film invokes. It is relentless and contains a few shocking scenes, but this film needs to be viewed by anyone wanting to be taken on a ride.
