Katamari damashii (2004)
Rich People Sure are Different
Katamari Damacy is the most interesting and addictive game ever to come out for the home console. When I say that, I mean this game is as weird as they come. You begin to wonder what these people were on while making this game. You are the son of the King of the Cosmos. Somehow, all the stars in the sky have gone missing. As his son, you are given the task of rolling up all the junk in the world to make new stars. The game play in this game is very original. You have a ball that collects junk. As your ball of junk grows bigger, you can collect larger things, like dogs cats, humans cars, and in some cases small islands. You even get to roll up the world's continents during the end credits. The graphics aren't top notch, but the game play makes up for the lack of amazing graphics. Your probably reading this and thinking, this game sounds really boring. However, it is by far the funnest game to come out this year. You definitely need to give this game a shot. If you do, you won't be sorry.
Tony Hawk's Underground (2003)
Best Skateboarding Game Ever
Anyone who says that this is the worst game in the Tony Hawk series didn't really play the game. This is by far the best Tony Hawk game to ever come out. You start out as a skater with absolutely nothing. Your ultimate goal is to make it pro. The game's story mode is very fun. You get cut scenes, and you really grow to care about your character. There is also nearly an endless amount of customization that you can use for your character. You can create what type of hair he has, what color his/her hair is, what shirt he/she wears, and so on. You can even create your own board design. There is also a lot of bonus features you can unlock like 3 secret characters and 4 secret levels. The game play is classic Tony Hawk style with some new twists. You can now get on and off your board, allowing you to climb, walk, or run through the environment. You also can go for a drive when you get sick of skating which doesn't happen to quickly. This is a very fun game with tons of re playability. Definitely pick this game up if your a fan of the series.
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (2004)
OK Game
Oh yes, another Tony Hawk game. The last THUG game was an amazing experience, throwing you into the life of a second rate skater trying to make it pro. Your probably thinking, THUG 2 would be like that, with a few new moves and so on. Well your wrong. This time, the game is all about vandalizing the world. Yeah, instead of struggling to the top, your trying to not get thrown out of the Word Destruction Tour. The visuals have become cartoony and take you out of the gaming experience. The story is way to short compared to the last one, and isn't nearly as inventive. Now for the positive stuff. The game play is amazing. It is very unrealistic but that's what makes it fun. This is kind of the Blitz of skateboarding games. Also, this game gives you tons of secret characters that you play as, or unlock. Overall this was a fun game, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first THUG. I recommend renting it and not buying it.
XIII (2003)
We Need More Comic Book Games
If there were more games like this I would never leave my house. XIII is a comic book style game with more celeb voice acting than I have ever heard before. You start out on a beach, with no memory. Some lifeguard takes you to her hut. You pass out and wake up on a bed in her hut. You then hear a knock on the door and machine gun fire. You see the nurse fall down dead. The first level makes you confused and you really feel like you don't have any memory. You are then thrown into the plot of finding not only your identity, but uncovering the conspiracy of who killed the president as well. One of the coolest features of this game are the flashbacks. They happen at random times and give you clues to how the game ends. Another cool feature are the side panel views that shows you someone's death step by step . This game has more plot twists than I can even count. It will keep you guessing until the end. The game play is standard FPS. You shoot people, people shoot you. This is unfortunately a short game. It only took about 10 hours to beat. The multiplayer ,however, is very fun and takes you back to the Goldeneye days. This game is definitely worth renting and I would recommend buying it. I can't wait for the sequel to come out.
Zeruda no densetsu: Kaze no takuto (2002)
Greatest Zelda Game Ever
The Legend of Zelda franchise has never come out with a bad game, and this is no exception. At first glance, you may think that Shigeru Miyamota has gone crazy by making his most popular game series cell shaded. The cartoony look upset many fans, but then they played the game. This is the best Zelda game to ever be released. The graphics seem foreign at first but they really get you into the whole island and sea feeling. You, once again, are Link. However, you have a family, you live on an island. For once, the game isn't intent on saving Zelda but your sister instead. These changes make the story line different from all the others. You also sail across the sea. The environment is huge. It takes about 15 minutes to sail from the bottom of the world to the top. Gameplay wise, it still has the classic Zelda feel. You get the normal Zelda weapons like the bow and arrow, the boomerang and the hook shot. However, you also get many new and interesting items like the Deku Leaf which allows you to fly through the air. You also get a grappling hook that allows you to climb up to hard to reach places. The game is long with about 40 hours of game play. This makes it a little less accessible to some people. But then again, what Zelda game hasn't been ridiculously long. My favorite part of this game were all the cameo's of previous Zelda characters. You meet Tingle from Majora's Mask. You also run into many characters who resemble the Sages from Ocarina of Time. This is a great game. It delivers something new to the whole franchise and I hope that they continue with the story.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (2004)
Great Sequel
Prince of Persia was a game that was by no means rated mature. This time however, the Prince is much darker, and the game play and story shows this. This game picks up about 5 years after the previous game. The prince is being stalked by the keeper of the time line the Dahaka. The Dahaka's only goal is to kill the Prince, and restore the time line. Also stalking the prince are the minions of the Empress of Time. In this game, the Prince's goal is to stop the Sands of Time from ever being created ,thus, the Dahaka would have no reason to stalk and kill him. Yeah, it's confusing. The classic Prince of Persia game play is back with a few new twists. You still have the ability to control time but there is a new combo fighting system which makes the game play even more enjoyable. You can also pick up fallen enemies weapons and use them. This makes the fighting even more intense. You can throw an axe or dagger, or chop off you enemies head with two swords. That brings me to the next addition to the game. Blood and gore. The game developers thought that it would be a good idea to add the blood and gore to the game to make it seem more realistic. In that they succeeded, and it was the best thing that they could of done to bring out the darkness of the story. Overall, this is a great game, and an improvement over the first.
Biohazard 4 (2005)
Great Game
Blood, gore, chills, insane mental patients with chainsaw what more could you want? Resident Evil 4 is a great example of what a horror game should be. With amazing character design and a unique fighting style, RE 4 is probably the best game to come out for the GameCube so far. You are Leon, a government agent that has been sent to rural Europe to find the President's daughter Ashley. Upon arrival, you find that all the villagers are "brainwashed" and are intent on killing you on sight. This happens to slow you down on your journey. You pick up various weapons and can upgrade them to become more powerful. As the game continues, you join up with allies, and find many more numerous types of enemies that are always more powerful than the last. The boss battles are by no means simple, or short. However, they are some of the most captivating fights that I have ever played in a game. Some of the bosses include a giant ogre type monster, a thoroughly terrifying sea monster and many other mini-bosses. If you want an easy game that you can play through without a problem than this game is not for you. With over 30 hours of game play, this is a game that you will have to rent multiple times to complete. This was a very good game, and I think would have beaten out Halo 2 for best game of the year if it had been released sooner. Definitely rent this one, and I would even recommend buying it.
