Iron Man meets Groundhog day
3 June 2014
I was not really sure what to expect when I went to see this movie and who was staring in it other than Cruise and Blunt. I was quite surprised to see Paxton and whole list of British and Southern Irish faces on the screen.

The story was well scripted and constructed. The main drive of the movie is to win the war everything else is secondary. This is done at a fast past, so you will need to remain focused to keep up. This is not a boy meets girl movie but a man with a gun on a mission to win a war by all means where necessary.

The repeat were cleverly done so as not to bore you. It would have been nice to see more of Blunt and Paxton in the movie but this did not distract from the plot themselves.

The special effect were first rate, well grounded and realistic without being mind blowing or over spectacular.

There is a lot of killing in the movie but the effects are more to the level of the "Terminator" rather than "Saving Private Ryan".

There are some humorous and romantic bits in the movie but this is a gun tooting fast paced action packed movie.

X-Men probably the best Marvel franchise
26 May 2014
This was a well constructed movie with some very good action scenes there to enhance the story rather than to make the story.

The acting is of top quality. You forget that you are watching some of the best actors applying their trade McKellen, McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart, Jackman, Lawrence, Berry, etc.

All Marvel movies should be directed by either Singer, Webb or Whedon. Singer makes the recent productions of the Thor franchise, Iron-Man 2 & 3 look amateurish.

There were some bits in the X-men movie that did not look quite right and this is true of all the X-men movie, is the age of the characters. I know Wolverine ages very slowly but does that apply to all mutant as Magneto, Professor X and some of the other characters should be a bit older or look older.

Some of the technology looked too advanced and way ahead of Stark industry for the periods.

These are minor point to what was a very entertaining and enjoyable movie.

Poor mans Hunger Game
25 April 2014
Although the acting was good from Winslet and the other two main leads the film suffered from poor direction and made very little sense.

What is so special about having Divergent? After two hour of the movie I was asking myself what is so special about Divergent? How do they control all their emotions? How did they decide on the fractions what where the reasons for their alliances? How are they governed and policed, etc.

The film was very padded out into a two hour movie with the inclusion some very tame fight scene with "Tris" or the other trainees. This movie could have been edited down to 90 minutes would have been fine.

The film was not thought provoking nor did it entertain. The ending was too predictable and tame.

This is really a poor mans Hunger Game at best

Jack Ryan super hero
10 April 2014
This Jack Ryan was more involved in events rather by choice as oppose accidents. Compared to the Ryan of Ford and Affleck this Ryan was more equipped for fighting than using his brains.

The acting was good, the interaction between characters was very good, the fight scenes and SFX were up to standard. Russians, Chinese, and North Koreans are your most popular bad guys these days and whats happened to the Crimea adds some weight to the story line.

Ryan is known for his cerebral power outsmarting his opponent or identifying solutions to problems. The movie was entertaining with lots of good fight scenes and technology but you could easily call be titled Mission Impossible or male version of SALT.

Noah (2014)

Inspired by the Bible
10 April 2014
If you are expecting this movie to provide you with some sort of religious meaning and based on the Bible then you can forget it.

The film was big on SFX, had A rated stars giving good performances but lacked substance as to why GOD chose Noah or why people are wicked. There was very little tense moments of suspense or character development. In the main the characters were blood thirsty showing little remorse for the loss of life.

The technology used by the people was too advanced for that period You only have to look at the way soldiers and the people were dressed. How was the population sustained, where did they come from was not addressed?

If you knew nothing of Noah you would better enjoy the movie. As the movie and characters were divorced from the Bible injecting major scenes and characters not found in the Bible.

Its not clear why this movie was made other than its SFX as it gave no hope to mankind at the start and the end of the movie.

Not Taken
31 March 2014
You could be mistaken for believing this was part of the Taken franchise, its not, it could have been.

Neeson character is not too dissimilar to his character he plays in Taken and is surrounded by Nyong'O recent Oscar winner, Moore and Dockery brings almost equal beauty to the screen as Maggie Grace, Femke Janssen and Holly Valance from Taken.

The film is not as humorous as Snake on a Plane but just as gripping. Its less obvious who the bad people are on the plane. There is good chemistry between the leading actors Moore and Neeson.

The movie does have some violent scenes but is not very violent by today's standards with no nudity. Tense and gripping in places, there aren't any brilliant scenes or actions that you haven't seen before but its still a good movie to go and watch.

Unbelievable nonsense
31 March 2014
The first Iron man was entertaining and enjoyable but the last two are terrible. Apart from the Thor franchise these are the two worst Marvel films that I have seen Iron Man 3 starts off well but slowly goes down hill. There is very little chemistry between Cheadle and Downey JR. Cheadle is a very good actor but is not right for Iron Man. Howard was better and its to the detriment of the franchise that Marvel chose to replace him.

The film follows on from Iron Man 2 and makes the same mistakes. My car has more security to prevent someone stealing and driving it than your Iron Man suit. The ease in which you are able to modify and fly the Iron Man suit is quite unbelievable considering the difficulties Obadiah Stane had to go through to construct his own suit in Iron Man 1.

What they done with some of the film characters divergence away from their comic equivalent was very disappointing.

Worse of all in the movie was the spectacular ending, which was a case unbelievable spectacular nonsense.

This movie has a lot of action, good moments between Downey Jr and Paltrow but very little sense. One of those movies that is best to leave your brain at home. You will watch once but wont want to watch again.

Great Entertainment
31 March 2014
Captain America continues where it left off from the first movie and the Avengers.

Chris Evans did a good Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and does an even better as Steve Rogers.

The movie is fast paced with lots of action that keeps you glued to the screen. New weaponry, spectacular fight scenes, introduction of new characters and possible love interest for Captain America.

Jackson, Evans and Johansson put in some good performances and the chemistry between characters new and old was good, very believable.

There is a strong emphasis on trust in relationship for all the characters and a sprinkle of political interference which was developed throughout the movie.

The film has the customary spectacular ending which does not disappoint. There are some flashback done very well. Good surprises, twist and turns, which you probably wont have anticipated.

This film is a great addition to the Captain American franchise and is vastly superior to the Thor and Iron Man nonsense.

I cant wait for the next installment of Captain America

Rise of which empire?
31 March 2014
300 Rise of an Empire bares little resemblance to historical facts and its not clear which empire is rising. as before the movie is fast paced with lots of blood, mutilated limbs and some nudity just to breakup all that chopping off of limbs. Some of the relationships are very questionable and did not make a lot of sense.

The outcome of some of the fighting scene were predictable, which left you wondering how the Persians ever won any battles and created their vast army. Some role were reprise even those that had died during the first 300 movie but this was done as part of a flashback to give weight to current characters.

Its always nice to watch Eva Green and Lena Headey with Stapleton from Strike Back not doing a bad job. The movie has less impact without Gerard Butler but its still an enjoyable movie as long as you don't take it too seriously
