Lone Hero (2002)
Watch It for Lou Diamond Phillips
Admittedly, this movie is a standard hero saves the day movie that's not super exciting, but it doesn't deserve some of these low ratings. It's a decent enough action movie and, like the title of this review says, people should watch it for Lou Diamond Phillips' scenes if for no other reason.
While everyone does a good job in this movie, Lou Diamond Phillips steals every scene he's in. His character is a terrible a-hole, but he is so charismatic with great lines it's hard to hate him. His role puts this villain in the top three villains category with Hans Gruber (Die Hard) and Clarence Boddicker (RoboCop - the 1987 original).
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction (2022)
Terrible
If you like games like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls read no further because you'll probably like this game.
For perspective: When given a choice, I play games on the medium difficulty. I have played and enjoyed many shooter games including Saint's Row series, GTA III, IV and V, Fallout 3 and 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost Recon 1, Wildlands and Breakpoint, and the Borderlands series.
Possible Spoilers
The reasons to dislike this game are:
1) There is no standing regen.
2) There are no true health kits. My friends and I refer to them as Meth Kits. It boosts your health bar with 'fake' health that degrades slowly over time regardless of whether or not you take damage.
3) There is no character creation. You must select from a pre-rolled roster.
4) There are no skill trees. However, as your operators level up to 10 maximum they gain minor rewards.
5) Under some circumstances the game becomes a mini-horde mode.
6) Even on Moderate the enemies are over-powered. They deal ridiculously massive damage and take multiple non-"weak point" shots to kill. Many of them have the bullet-proof carapace covering most of their bodies.
7) As you progress through the locations more ridiculous/difficult enemies are added including one that is literally unkillable (save for a really weird/unreasonable exploit).
8) Under certain circumstances you can lose XP and even de-level. When your operators go down they don't die, but go MIA. Their XP is 'banked' until they are rescued. If the rescue fails their XP is lost and they can de-level if they are not level 10 (at level 10 your progression is secured).
9) The game is lobby-based - not open world.
10) The game is timed. The incursions consist of three sub-zones (each one more difficult as you progress). Each sub-zone is timed at 15 minutes.
11) The only way your operators regain their true health is when they are not in an incursion. They get a tiny percentage based on the XP earned by the operators in incursions.
The Rookie (2018)
Descent Into Wokeness
Yep, as many others have said: Season 3 began the decline. Every episode panders and shames. I'm about 3/4 the way through Season 3 and will try to stick it out because of Nathan Fillion, but I doubt I'll make it much farther.
It pains me to give the show one star because I love Nathan Fillion, but this show is now terrible. I never watched Castle, but I know he was great in that because my mother used to watch it and I had seen scenes when I would visit her.
Of course, he was amazing in Firefly and Serenity as well as his many cameos in various shows (Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, et al) and Cayde-6 in the Destiny series. He's still good in The Rookie, but he can't carry it out of the wokeness.
Disturbing the Peace (2020)
Awfully Good or Excellently Awful
I won't repeat what has already been said about how terrible this movie is because I agree with everything said except not to see it. To me it is terrible enough to be entertaining.
SPOILERS (as if it matters in a movie this horrible):
1. {Silliness} To stereotype Texas in the most extreme fashion the hero (Guy Pearce) saves the day by riding in on a horse.
2. {Factual Error} I'm pretty sure that the Texas Rangers never wore a badge like the one Catie (Kelly Greyson) pins on Guy Pearce before the grand finale.
3. {Factual Error} I know Texas doesn't have a "state police" agency. The "state police" was disbanded in 1873 and "state troopers" were formed and the Texas Rangers were incorporated in the Department of Public safety as the elite branch of state level law enforcement. We do not refer to DPS officers as "state police".
211 (2018)
Too much silliness...
First, I love Nicolas Cage - yeah, I know, shut up. :P
Second, this movie has too many silly things to even summarize so I won't even waste time posting spoilers. Watch it, don't watch, just know that it's got so many ridiculous things you might damage your optic nerves from rolling your eyes.
Third, an FYI: it's bad bad not good bad like Gymkata and Jupiter Ascending.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Pretty Good - Hoping It Gets Better
It's actually a 7, but I wanted to offset some of the 1s. It's not THAT bad.
The 1s make some good points. Among others:
1) The kids becoming karate experts after only a few lessons.
2) The teen drama.
3) Nerds becoming bullies and bullies becoming 'victims'.
4) Girls beating up boys.
5) The boy with the girl's hair (Robbie Keene)
In an attempt to defend:
1) We don't actually know how much show-world time passes in between episodes relative to real-world time. However, there is a reference to "this year" by the time the tournament rolls around. Even after a year VERY few people would be good enough to win a regional competition.
2) I suspect the teen drama is added so kids will watch with their parents whom are most likely attracted to the show because of the 80s Karate Kid movies. Regardless, they need to dial the teen s*** back a bit.
3) It's nice to see the bullies get what's coming to them, but the former nerds need to be toned down.
4) Most of the boys are scrawny and most oriental martial arts are more about finesse than brute force, but a female the same approximate size as a male at that age would not so easily defeat the male. It's possible, but the fight wouldn't be as close as the show portrays.
5) Sorry, I have no defense for young, Val Kilmer.
All that aside: the show is decent enough to watch so give it a try - you're already paying for Netflix, anyway
Not Another Sci-Fi Movie (2013)
So Beautfully Awful
This movie is so bad that it's worth watching, but it might be painful to some. I have to believe that the acting is deliberately terrible. I've literally seen better acting in pornos. I mean I've heard other people describe the acting in pornos and it sounded better than this movie. I don't think I've ever seen a student film before, but I have to believe that they are better than this movie. It really is so bad that people should watch it so they can recalibrate their baselines for 1 * ratings.
There actually are some pretty good jokes, but the acting is so bad that the delivery is ruined. There are a few decent physical gags, but the dialog is flat so you might not even partially chuckle.
The two main chick characters are cute so there's that, but, unfortunately their acting is as bad as the dudes' acting.
Again, this movie is worth watching because it's so horrible.
The Legend of Hercules (2014)
Yes, heed the 1s and 2s...and maybe the 3s
There's no need for me to repeat the other reviews just read the other low rating reviews because they are all true. I don't like to slam movie makers because I've never made a movie and probably couldn't, but, come on, man: be better. :\
Everything has already been said in the other accurate reviews, but to put it into perspective:
SPOILER (maybe)
The scene wherein Heracles fights the lion would've been laughable had the budget not been $70 million. A 15-year old with a Mac could've produced better CGI. Now I must go check in a mirror to make sure my jaw isn't still agape.
