Raise Your Voice (2004)
sheer punishment
Filled with clichés and a screenplay which wouldn't even be able to support a decent short film, 'Raise Your Voice' is another chick flick, with lacks originality and some sort of substance. It is another feature which tries to avoid a predictable script, but unfortunately enough, that is the direction it steers in. The dialogue is very poor, so one begins to question which audience this trashy cinema is aimed at. The director has not attempted to explore any new techniques of editing, filming or focus and because of this, the movie becomes tiering to watch, as though we are watching films such as 'a Cinderella Story' all over again, with slightly different changes. With acting that could make Tom Cruise look like some sort of good actor, this film truly deserves to be called a wreck. The characters seem to be almost too flawless, which disables the audience to develop a connection with the leads. The scoring and sound mixing is the only aspect which enables the film from becoming a complete disaster. And at times it distracts those critical views from the many flaws which are presents to us. This is about as cheesy as a they get, and the cheese has turned so rotten, this film literally stinks. 'Raise Your Voice' is probably the best we can expect from Hillary Duff, and unfortunately this film fails to launch of this dull and un realistic surface.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
was it supposed to a joke? Cause it wasn't funny!
'God Grief' was the first thought which ran through my head after this two hour Hollywood disaster finished, this movie is living proof, that most remakes always seize to fail miserably. If there was an award ceremony handing out awards for a movie which featured the most flaws, this film would swipe that award show clean. "The Manchurian Candidate" makes Britney Spears' 'crossroads' look like a intriguing classic.
The cinematography is literally in your face, and it seems as though Tak Fujimoto has used up all his talent in 'the sixth sense' and 'the silence of the lambs'. Tak Fujimoto, seems to have glued his finger to the "close up" button for the entirety of the film, and with Denzel Washington's face covered up with more pimples than an 16 year old boys, it is not quite appealing to view. He has failed to capture, the little authenticity in this movie and because of his very poor effort, this movie becomes a greater disaster which should be remembered by the Razzie academy as the 'worst cinematography' is a film ever.
The adaptation written by Richard Condom, is absurd and melodramatic, it makes Ruby's productions look sain and Shakespeare look naturalistic. Furthermore, the plot has so many wholes, one can hurt their ankles watching this film, no wonder it is rated MA15+, children do not deserve to hurt their precious limbs nor hurt their minds.
There is not one scene where a naturalistic mannerism is pulled off in 'the Manchurian candidate', and when attempted to act them out by Denzel Washington, along with the rest of the cast (excluding Meryl Streep) make Ms. Dekota Fanning look like she out to take Mr. Washington's two Oscars, which the academy should demand back after this performance.
This movie is a movie which is made for those, who would like to present themselves as apart of an intellectual audience whom have some sort of decent taste. Those who state this movie is there favorite movie of all time truly must reconsider. This film is made for those try hard democrats who wish to show they have some sort of knowledge of American politics. I laugh when I watch this movie, I cry and I get angry, because it is that bad. This film should be in a genre of it's own, the only thing holding this trashy cinema is Meryl Streeps- fantastic performance. How can one actress can be so fantastic in a film, which is surrounded with faults, and not spread onto her like a mad disease is stunning. Congrats Meryl.
Bugsy (1991)
A bit boring.
This film isn't the best, nor is it worthy of being called 'good'. It is okay, with reasonable performances, which could have given more to the movie. Warren Beatty is simply over the top and very un-realistic as his portray of Ben, and throughout the movie, his personality constantly changes as do his reactions to similar things. Whether this is done on purpose or not, to show the character evolving change in self , i do not know! But Mr. Beatty has not made it obvious enough through his acting to show a solid three dimension character.
'Bugsy' without a doubt, has fantastic costumes, make-up, lighting, art direction and sound. However, this movie follows the man who 'created' Vegas into the gambling capital of the world. The screenplay is a bit dull and does get quite boring, some faults are very obvious and regrettable in this movie. And if you are young, you will most likely not want to complete watching the film.
I couldn't held but feel a sense of anger as to why this film took home the golden globe for 'best drama' over 'the silence of the lambs'. We have seen very similar movies to 'bugsy' in the past and it does rip off a number of films. The whole 'gangster' thing doesn't do it for me, and after it was done so well in 'goodfellas' and 'the godfather' it is quite hard to impress.
Overall, not a bad film. Not really an original nor a classic either, it has a very satisfying ending, for those who are not aware of this man's life. And it is worth watching if it is on TV one night.
Ying xiong (2002)
wow
Wow, Yimou Zhang and the rest of the cast and crew truly did a fantastic job on this film. I must say, how fantastic is the cinematography? Anyone who has seen this film, surely must agree with me, it is superb- congrats Christopher Doyle. There is this one scene in particular, which captures the very bright colors of the autumn season and the beauty associated with it. The soundtrack is mesmerizing and fits in so well with the script. My only complaint associated with this film, is the confusing screenplay, pay close attention, otherwise you'll be lost and will miss out on the true essence this film as to offer. This is fantastic Asian cinema.
If you enjoy watching the technical aspects of a film, you'll immensely enjoy 'hero', if you are going to watch a film to ease your mind, don't bother. This film requires concentration and your full attention, if you apply yourself completely to this film, you will think it is a masterpiece.
Changi (2001)
Ohh My Gosh!
I was forced to watch 'Changi' last year in year 10 Australian History. Looking around the class room, both classes, all 40 students were nearly asleep, all 40 heads on the table whispering to the person next to them. I refuse to believe that because I am only 16, that my opinion doesn't count, having studied world war two, I not only felt embarrassed and ashamed watching this Australian piece of trash television. I was out of my mind at the appalling effort this mini series applied in the usage of film elements. The acting was poor, the screenplay was very inaccurate and the score was dreadful. Please, do not watch this film, it is bias and very racists (to the Japans).
