The New York Times Presents: Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson (2021)
Racism and sexism at its worst
I love how some people think that this incident had nothing to do with race. Those individuals are clearly white. Let me take you guys to school for a quick second. You have a black woman and a white man involved here, but who got the blame? Whose career suffered... the black woman. This is America folks. This country is built on years and years of racism... and sexism. We can't forget that. I mean, do you not know our history? Do you not see what's going on today? Open your eyes. Read a book. Janet Jackson is one of the best selling artists of all time. She deserved much better than what was handed to her.
Why Did I Get Married? (2007)
A good solid film.
I really liked this movie overall. I think there are some pacing issues, but this is definitely Perry's best thus far. Full of rich characters and universal themes. I was impressed by the performances of Tasha Smith, Jill Scott, and mostly Janet Jackson. This was the first time I saw Jackson as a true actress. The scene where she breaks down in the kitchen gave me goosebumps. The rest of the cast were well placed. This movie drives home the fact that there must be communication to have a successful relationship. Those expecting Madea type laughs could be a bit disappointed. There are big laughs, but this movie is more of a drama. A good movie that I'm sure will land in the top of the weekend box office.
