Bad Words (2013)
Shamelessly funny
The storyline allowed for a lot of funny moments and the movie definitely ran with it. It was hilarious and didn't stray from the plot to include any unneeded jokes (this is what draws me away from most comedies). The child, Chaitanya (Rohan Chand), was innocent and cute enough to provide a nice contrast to the unscrupulous Guy (Jason Bateman). With some heartwarming moments, this movie is more than just a rude comedy. The comedy is raunchy and vulgar though so it definitely takes a certain sense of humor to enjoy (sad to say that it is mine lol). Also, a little predictable, but that doesn't take away from the movie too much.
Knights of Badassdom (2013)
So-so
Already having a funny plot, there were plenty of jokes that will keep you laughing throughout the movie. I feel like Steve Zahn is an underrated actor/comedian, but he definitely delivered in his performance. Peter Dinklage is hilarious as an overly passionate LARPer while Summer Glau proves to be more than just eye candy.
With a plot that based on LARP'ing, however, it was as corny as you would expect it to be. Also, the movie seems to be made mostly for people who play it so although most of the jokes made me laugh, it was just never that enjoyable overall (as a non-player). The low budget's special effects did not help either, but maybe it was supposed to be that way as a metaphor for real life LARP props, costumes, etc?
