I haven't been this humorously entertained in a while. Dwayne just keeps on improving in his movies but really the chemistry is there for all three.

I see 80 - 110 movies a year so I think I am a fair judge of good and bad movies. The writing and directing in Midsommar was some of the worst I have seen yet. Lately, I find the critics giving mercy critiques for one cause or another and the critic reviews no longer reflect what the average movie goer wants to see. THe critics review have become totally worthless. Unfortunately, there are now enough trolls voting that follow the critics to damage the integrity of the averages. Currently, the only reviews I go on are from acquaintances that like movies I do.

This goes to show if you have enough PR and the right people behind it you can overcome a bad implementation. I realize this the guys first attempt at directing but don't exaggerate the rating to make up for a poor implementation. It's a 5 at best being generous.

Most overrated movie of the year. It wasn't scary - just silly. Over on RT they are trying so hard to prop him (Peele) up. All this does is discredit the critics but they are already so far down that road. I think I am being generous with a 5 since this is supposed be a thriller.

Without it being based on a true story there just wasn't anything here. Dwayne only had a few limited appearances. Vince carried much of the movie. The story was ok but not great. Not really movie worthy. These reviews became biased again when they force you to look at them in chronological order. Often times the first reviews are by shills and over the top exaggerations to promote the movie. The honest stuff comes later on by normal people. Seven stars is generous.

2018 is a Good Movie. 1954 Judy Garland Was A Great Movie

We watched the 1954 version of A Star is Born after seeing the 2018 Bradley/Gaga version. Both are good. Judy Garland and James Masson were great. Especially the music score. Not sure what happened on this one.

Social media has killed any meaning at all to these ratings. The Gaga fans went crazy on A Star is Born to boost the ratings way over where they are now. Them and their buds are all giving it a 10 and many have not even seen it yet. It is actually not a bad movie. A 6 or 7 is where it is honestly. As talented musically as Gaga is an actor she is not. She just scraped by in this. A lot more experience will make her a much better actor.

This is one of the most accurate portrayals of Lincoln and extensive analysis comparing the presidencies. It's not perfect but it's mainly right on the money. Beware of negative reviews on this. The haters hate it.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)

Lily and Amanda were basically the entire movie with a little Pierce thrown in. Happy not too see much of Meryl Streep. Story-line a bit difficult to follow unless you cheated like my wife did. Lily James performance was outstanding and made it worthwhile. I am not a big "musical" guy but Lily made it worthwhile.

Incredibles 2 (2018)

I rated the first one an 8/10 but this story was convoluted. I guess as long as it keeps the kids entertained it is good.

This is occurring with too much regularity lately. Average or even good movies that are being slammed by the critics and media for one PC reason or another. When you see 5 point gaps between the critics ratings and general audience always ignore the critics. In fact always ignore the critics anyways. Sometimes they try to skew the regular voters ratings but the masses normally override that garbage. Not on Gotti however. The giveaway is when you see mainly ones or tens in the voting distribution and not many in between. That is the case for Gotti. I thought it was an average but interesting movie and reflected on Gotti somewhat accurately.

Vastly Underrated IMO

Folks should learn to totally ignore the critics these days. Too much political correctness has made them completely misleading and just plain wrong a lot.

I haven't laughed in tears for much of a movie in a long time. Based on a true story this was outrageous and funny. It is not for kids and is pretty dirty language but so well done. Enjoy!

Under-rated Ignore the "One" Ratings

It's amazing that folks won't even see the movie and rate it one way or the other based on rumor. Ignore the one's in the case. When you see a ton of "ones" and then "tens" you can be assured that the voters are running with an agenda.

This was my favorite interim Star Wars movie so far. The character development between Alden and Emilia was excellent. It supported the earlier movies and tied some pieces together. It was a great set.

Not sure what is going on here but the votes went way up but they aren't in the demographics. This movie is really bad. Fine for MoviePass but don't pay even a matinee price for this trash.

Simply put the special effects were pretty good at times but nothing we haven't seen before. The story was very weak. Some of the character development was good but not enough to save the story. There was no big racial message in it or anything like that. There were some small innuendo's but very limited.

12 Strong (2018)

Another Underrated But Excellent Movie Supporting Our Military

This is the true story of how the Taliban were defeated in the northern Afghanistan after 9/11. It was very accurate unlike some Hollywood portrayals. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire last half of the movie. It is another one to ignore the critics again on and political biases come into play in many of their comments.

Joe no longer even appears to believe in the trash he keeps spewing. I really don't care what he or other biased networks say as long as they don't claim to be "news" networks. We need to regulate a little more of validating the truth in broadcasting like we do advertising food or anything else. As long as the viewers know this is just opinion/propaganda/satire/fiction instead of accepted fact (which unfortunately is how it is currently being presented) I have no problem with it. I have not yet figured out Mika's purpose. She reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day when Murray said my father was a piano mover. The show is all rubbish all of the time.

I found myself laughing at it rather than with it. Decent actors and acting matched to a bad script. A remake doesn't have to be this bad. This shouldn't have been as bad as it is. The good news is for the guys like me. My rating is for the aesthetics. I could have nearly turned the volume down and enjoyed it just as much.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

Good but not Great

I really liked Prometheus I and this movie is the sequel. The plot is the same old story which is part of the repetition problem. Ship lands on a planet and discovers Aliens and then tries to escape. Of course, the circumstances surrounding the story are now different. There are some references to the first Prometheus. Technology and special effects are basically the same.

Besides Michael Fassbinder the character development is lacking IMO compared to Prometheus I. It is wide open for more sequels. I rated the first Prometheus a 9 but both are hovering around a 7. Definitely worth seeing if you are a fan. Just not a great movie. The budget was cut back for II and it shows it a bit.

Get Out (I) (2017)

Good but no 8+

Good first horror comedy by Peele. The lead character development was good and most of it was well written. Some of the acting was a bit overdone. The medical aspects didn't make much sense so a of imagination is in order. The shock scenes were appropriate and well executed.

Don't believe the Reviews - It Is Another Arrival

Not a bad movie but the current ratings game has these lackluster high budget sci-fi movies hyped because of so many huge losses in Hollywood. This one is no different. It is just OK. Nothing spectacular that merits the high ratings. Sure - very good actors but like Arrival but again just a mediocre script with a few unbelievable dramatics mixed in. I think this is what is keeping them employed at this point. Hyped mediocrity. Don't buy in on the hype. Aliens redo but not as good.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

Pure mindless entertainment

John C. Reilly is the big star of this movie. Everyone else is supporting. This is a must see in 3D movie to appreciate the special effects which are right on par with what is expected these days. There isn't a lot of character development like The Jackson Kong but there is more action and it is nearly non-stop. If you just want to be entertained and forgot about your problems for two hours then this is a good movie to see. Enjoy.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

Overrated and I Like the First One

I am not sure what is going on with the ratings on IMDb but apparently groups of folks have the ability now to get mass votes positive or negative via social media which makes these ratings less and less useful to us recreational movie-goers looking for what a reasonable person would say.

A Dog's Purpose was the same deal. A much better movie than the boycotted ratings gave it as this is not nearly the movie the ratings are giving it since it is nearly a repeat of the first movie. That is too bad. Anyways, it was a good sequel but not as good as the original John Wick. More of an extension and in many ways a repeat of the first some. Most of the elements are nearly the same (without giving spoilers) so it is a bit more boring in spots because of it. Plenty of firepower but we expected it after the first one. I downgraded it a bit for sheer repetition.

Criminal (2016)

Way Underrated

This is a pretty good action thriller IMO. I am finding myself disagreeing with the professional critics more and more. Considering the actual research going on now with the subject matter behind the theme it is now much more plausible than ever before and I disagree whole-heartedly with many of critics comments. Of course most folks think artificial intelligence is twenty five years away too.

Besides a lot of great action and suspense, Gal Gadot (the new Wonder Woman) did some decent acting besides just looking great. I thought Kevin Costner's did a very good job given the difficult dual role.

If you don't like spy action thrillers than this movie is a waste of time but if you do it well worth the price of a matinée admission. The action is pretty much continuous.
