Midnight mass is set in a small island called Crockett. The people are extremely religious and most of them are not cool with outsiders or people from another religion. The underlying theme is about faith gone all wrong. The important characters are Riley who doesnt believe in God, Erin Greene whose faith is almost on the borderline, Sheriff Hassan a devout Muslim, Beverly Keane who is a fanatic and Father Paul. The series is a good effort in showing parallels from the book of Bible and the context of the story but it often gets lost in heavy conversation between the individuals especially Riley and Erin. I am not sure if Flanagan wants everyone to watch the series as it would be too much to take in for a regular viewer. The story centers around supposed sighting of an old priest Monsignor Pruitt and the coincidental arrival of a young priest Father Paul. Episode 4 is where the story starts to unfold. Now the huge problem is character development especially the relationship of Father Paul and Mildred. The director expects people to just lean into the conversation for the gist of their history. I would rate it 8.5 but I can say for sure that this is not for everyone to watch as many would be left reeling and would then check some youtube channels to understand the story. Honestly, a director should make a series/movie where the people can understand whats happening instead of relying on youtube channels for the philosophy behind it. All in all, please watch this if you dont mind listening to Bible passages and references for over 6 hours i.e. 95% of this story and if you dont take things too personally as the director has tried to be as woke as possible with Sherrif Hassan's character making him look like a hero.
