Neo-eui kyeol-hoon-sik (2018)
A REAL love story
Probably the most realistic movie I've ever seen about first love. The joy and pain of two people's lives who are forever intertwined by friendship and deep affection through the pivotal moments of young adulthood is perfectly captured in this lovely movie. The ending is not what you typically get from movies like this which is so very refreshing. Beautiful.
Paranormal (2020)
For older, more mature audiences
Beautifully nuanced character development is what makes this series so enjoyable. The lead actor carries the weight of Paranormal; if you don't relate to his wry, humor and inner dialog, you won't enjoy this series. It's my opinion the slower pace of this series is more relatable to older audiences who can relate to the lead character's struggles that bridge the entire season. There are things about the character that renind me of Constantine. I highly recommend you stick with it to end to see how it comes full circle. There are a couple unexpected surprises! I can't wait for next season to see how things continue to flesh out.
Notable flaws in the series are costuming, wigs and special effects, however, they are all forgotten when one focuses on acting talent. The last episode brought me to tears- as a person in my 40s- the pain Dr. Refaat Ismail conveys is very relatable. Beautiful series.
Dug Days (2021)
Charming and funny
We discovered these adorable shorts purely by accident yesterday. I was unaware Ed Asner had passed away, but that doesn't influence my opinion of how absolutely lovely these brief episodes are. It's unfortunate that there's only 5 episodes, since during these dark days of Covid, the light hearted plots offered by these episodes are just what the doctor ordered. DUG is the witless star of these episodes, and he is a hoot! My husband and I laughed ourselves silly through most of the episodes, but the moments of sweetness really pull on your heart strings as well. The animation is excellent as well. Once again, Pixar delivers quality over quantity.
Pandora (2019)
Not Star Trek, but not total garbage. HOT ACTORS
I would not classify myself as a sci-fi junky, but I am an enormous fan of the whole family of Star Trek franchise, so I have pretty high standards. As such, I usually pass over sci- shows like this because they're just so hard to get into and the special effects are so abysmal. I'll be Frank, what caught my interest is the lead actress- she is SMOKING HOT. In fact, much of the cast is, quite frankly, quite attractive.
I agree with previous reviewers that the first episode is pretty darn bad. However, I do not think this shiw deserves one star reviews (which I LOVE doling out, when deserved.) In general the quality of the episodes are very uneven. However, I get the sense the script writers ARE building to something and if you watch them out of order or skip an episode, you may regret it. A few of the episodes have been pretty good and I'm going to hang in there to see where this show lands. I hope it doesn't get cancelled.
