American Horror Story: Orphans (2014)
My heart
This may have been one of the hardest episodes of television I've ever watched. Pepper's story was a mystery during season 02 and to see how her story ties to season 04 is fantastic and completely heartbreaking. I think I was crying from her very first scene in this episode until some time after I finished watching it. Pepper was a character I enjoyed so much and was rooting for since season 02. To see such a pure of heart character endure so much pain -loss after loss after loss, after giving nothing but unconditional love, just because of her differences, absolutely gutted me. Why her sister couldn't return her to the freakshow, where she was clearly adored...I know, this had to tie into season 02...
Humanity can be so cruel, and while it shows itself in different ways now, than it did then, this episode is still so relevant. Naiomi Grossman's performance in this episode was beautiful and painfully perfect.
The only reason I gave this episode a 9/10, is because I think this was a story we could have seen during Asylum.
Colin in Black and White (2021)
Go in with an open mind
Those who have complained about the story being told and how it's being told, are precisely the reason the story needs telling. This is just offering a different perspective to a world many of us couldn't possibly understand. Kaepernick isn't whining, he's just speaking his truth, and he's showing us there's more to pro-sports than we realize, and how naive we have really been.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
What?
Had SO MUCH potential, but it had too many things going on that made zero sense and had zero resolution. That ending...seriously, what?
Drunk History: Are You Afraid of the Drunk? (2019)
Laughed My A** Off.
I may have peed a little when watching this episode. And I was sober!
Slender Man (2018)
Not even remotely scary.
Sure, it's a metaphor-a fact that was only really clear at the very end of the movie, but the story itself, wasn't always clear. And it certainly wasn't scary-and I scare EASILY! Sorry, given the information surrounding this internet myth, this movie was terribly disappointing.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Necessarily uncomfortable.
If this movie makes you uncomfortable, good. Spike Lee does an incredible job bringing such an important story to the screen, especially in light of all the hate that continues to be alarmingly present in the United States.
Wedding Crashers (2005)
Undeveloped, unbelievable, and not really funny.
Why do so many people love this movie? I just didn't buy it. The characters were undeveloped and the story predictable. I chuckled maybe once or twice during the entire movie, but in actuality, I was bored. To begin with, I found Will Ferrell's character disgusting and disturbing. To play on the idea of picking up women at funerals is in incredibly poor taste--even for comedy. Not to mention the relationship with Vince Vaughn's character and the psychotic girl was simply unrealistic. Owen Wilson's character finds love, so, in turn, Vince Vaughn's character, a man who thrives on being a playboy, who spent the latter part of the film hiding from the crazy girl, suddenly finds himself in love with her? Let alone the campy ending, which really seemed like the writers didn't know what to do, so they threw everyone together for a happy dysfunctional ending. This movie was supposed to be a situation comedy and I just didn't buy the situation, nor did I find the comedy really all that funny. It would make sense to be that senseless if the movie was intended to be "stupid" humor, but this movie was not promoted in that way. And as a result the "jokes" were poor attempts at raunchy humor and not really all that original.
