Molly (2017)
Combat & heart in a technicolor wasteland
Gorgeous production design serves the world building of this colorful Mad Max-esque magical wasteland. The fight choreography feels raw & authentic and isn't edited to bits or obscured by a shaky camera - the camera floats and moves through scenes gracefully, especially an extended fight-for-your-life climax scene that lasts nearly an uninterrupted half hour.
Everyone seems to be having a great time here, which only adds to the audiences enjoyment. I found myself deeply invested & granny widely by the end. The combination of color, action, comedy & the post-apocalyptic setting left me thinking this would be the team to call whenever Hollywood decides to do a live-action Adventure Time adaptation, but regardless of the project, I'm stoked for the next feature from Get Off the Road & Thijs Meuwese.
Saw IV (2007)
This needs to stop.
This is just too much. If they're going to continue making these, Darren and the new writers need to go back and watch SAW until they realize what made it great. This movie is such a far reach from the original, it's ridiculous. It just doesn't feel like a saw film. -The music is unoriginal and underplayed.-The traps are random, overdone, ridiculous, poorly developed.-They are essentially traps, not games.-The bathroom is no where to be seen. -A saw plays no important part (orany part at all) -No Amanda. -No Jigsaw (except in flashbacks) -No confined location. -No patience. -Little to no character development.
Don't get me wrong, there were parts I was entertained, but as a whole, it's just not SAW anymore. Just stop.
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ Kesshôtô no Teiô Entei (2000)
Deserves much better then a 4.0!!!
What an enjoyable film! I don't understand all the hate and backlash this has gotten. If you hate Pokémon, and your insist on down voting, go do it on 7 or 8, where everything is bright, cheery, linear, Hollywood garbage. This is beautiful.
The story isn't complex, but it's much more layered then other animated films. The colors are beautiful, and the animation is very well done, with tastefully placed CG, but mostly wonderfully detailed classic animation. The story contains good lessons about faith and family. The battle scenes are long and epic. The style is so dark and artistic that it's simply a treat for the eyes.
My only complaints come with some the dialog being a little cheesy, and that it's way to short. (The feature itself is only 70 min) With more time they could have gone more places and really developed the characters and story arcs more. But all in all, a wonderful film, defiantly among the best of the Pokemon series, and among my favorite anime films of all time. A must see for all young people, anime fans, Pokémon fans, and anyone with a general interest in animated film! 10/10 as far as Pokémon is concerned
Lady in the Water (2006)
Defiently one of his best!
M. Night weaves an epic tale of a mysterious girl, who appears from a hotel swimming pool, whose life and purpose seem to coincide with an old Chinese bedtime story...what to we get from this? A really fun movie!!! Don't let adverts deceive you, as they may have with Signs or The Village, somehow, ever since The 6th Sense, Night's movies have been advertised as horror, but they're not. They are wonderful, original stories, and while it may be a stretch to call some "wonderful", i defiantly have an easy time praising this film, and giving it my full recommendation.
Pros: Suspense is played with very well, through use of good lighting and good music. Never great, but good. The story is amazingly original and inspiring, portrayed well with excellent actors, for the most part very wise casting decisions. The pacing is excellent, and the movie ends just on time, without cutting it short, or trying to stretch. Held my attention all the way through, and really got to me on an emotional level. Also, a few VERY funny moments...
Cons: Few and far between. Some may say a poor casting choice was Night casting himself as an important character this time around, but I think he did an excellent job! Really, the few cons I can think of...the main character seems to excepting of whats going on around him, not stopping to question the bizarre. Also, the opening story telling sequence was weak and mostly irrelevant..
Overall, 8/10...a jewel among the rough this summer, I highly recommend this. After seeing this film, I'm sure Shamalayn is headed towards great things...
Boogeyman (2005)
"Boogyman" isn't what you expect.
"THE BOOGYMAN" was entertaining, at the least. For me, it was more then that, but, for it's target crown, a disappointment.
The plot DID go somewhere, contrary to popular belief. The matter is it just went places we would have preferred it not to go. I liked it, but sounds like many others had some trouble. And yes, there are some gaping plot holes you could drive a truck through, but if you ignore these, you can enjoy it.
The acting of SOME characters was head on, while other needed to be cut entirely (i.e. the uncle, mysterious man entering hotel, possibly the unfinished "mother" portion) For a while there in the middle, the plot takes on a bit of a physiological thriller feeling, and starts to drop horror and suspense...i personally liked how it was changing, but most were disappointed.
The overall tone was suspenseful, (using a nice camera filter and nicely placed music) and some good jumps, but over all, this was advertised as horror, and it was not. THAT was this films biggest downfall (kinda like The Village)The camera work itself could have been improved, it kind of had that home made feel to it, and the CGI was far from scary.THings i DID like include the overall moral and point of the plot, Barry Watsons internal conflict with his paranoia, and, you have to be with me on this one...
They Did NOT leave it open for a Sequel!
The Ring Two (2005)
Cheap Addition to a once great Film
The Ring Two...wow. What can I say? I admit, I jumped a few times, and there was some wonderful acting...Thats all the good...Now, the crap...the crap is, well, everything else. There's a flock of deer that look like they just hopped out of the next Shrek movie along with a ghostly samara whom looks like she just finished a wet and wild scene on the set of Toy Story..also, a terrible twist involving a parallel universe inside the Video, wish is totally bull crap. Also this movie contains the color and happiness of the Wizard of Oz (second half)not like the faded/blueish filter used last time... And finally, nearly no reference, referrals, resemblance, or even due credit to the First...It was a let down, with a bad ending and a crappy ass plot...my rating..MAKE A BETTER Sequel!
