Knights of the Zodiac (2023)
Time for a comeback!
Why do people allow all the negative reviewers to set the tone? Give this unintentionally (I think) very nuanced film a second life. It very well could have a brand new idea.
It did have a few titters here and there. Not full on gut busters but I caught a smile. The young man in the lead is a great actor and the young girls would enjoy his talents and sweet smile.
Put a good writing team on one sequel (Adorably evil, Nero) and I'd invest if I was flush like that....which I'm not but thousands of savvy young investors are.
I loved everything about this movie and it must be fate. I look every movie up on IMDB and the 4.4 rating intrigued me. So, I immediately began watching it. In one sitting.
Give it a go...trust me!
Windy City Rehab: Alison's Dream Home (2023)
Magnificent!
I admit that I am a Reno/Armchair designer and I watch everything TV has to offer in the genre. Many are turned off by Alison's personality and up until recently I felt the same way avoiding her show.
The turning point was when I saw her as one of the mentors on "Battle on the Beach." I then binged on every season of "Windy City Rehab" and now I'm hooked! When Dream House dropped into my feed I got so excited.
Alison Victoria is an extremely hard worker and her remarkable designs are unlike anything I've seen. Her new dream home is totally unique. It's a glorious mix of antiquity and glamor that will leave you in awe of the 5'3" genius responsible for its existence. With this accomplishment I don't see how she can top it...but, I'll bet she will and I can't wait. Bravo, Alison!
Dubai Bling (2022)
Awful...
This was just too painful to watch! I forced myself to finish the first episode even though I felt physically ill. Filthy rich people living overly entitled lives (for the most part). This program makes "The Real Shahs of Beverly Hills" look like PBS style entertainment. They must have hit every middle eastern cliche in the book. Every female was outrageously beautiful and nearly every male was GQ ready...with the exception of the token chubby guy. All this stupidity taking place in Dubai. Of course, the creators think nobody knows the truth about Dubai. Surely we must all want to live there and have what these spoiled rotten jokers have. God have mercy if we buy into this!
Tom Swift (2022)
Who dropped the ball?
I saw so many negative reviews and was confused. How could a sci-fi show get so bad so fast? I mean the premise seemed interesting and the storyline was relatively fresh so what could be the problem?
Well, first off they hit every cliche in the book in the first 10 minutes of episode 1. Rich father unable to accept his only son's "sensitivities". Seriously, I think we're way past referring to gay people as "sensitive" aren't we? Since I don't want to spoil the non-existent plot I won't say anything else. I guess if I wanted to give this show a real chance I would have watched another episode or two. But, I just didn't care enough and there are so many really great shows out there.
The Northman (2022)
Disappointing...
Way to raw for my liking. The plot was unimaginative and most of the film too dark to see anything. Except for the gore...we got lots of gore. Maybe that's why they yelled and growled at each other throughout the movie.
Maybe the writers thought the audience was ready for "realistic" Viking drama after all the Hollywood produced fare like VIKINGS which was so popular. Well, they were wrong, terribly wrong. Besides, who knows what the Northmen were really like?
Nicole Kidman was her usual flat self...ugh. All the other talented actors are probably kicking themselves in the rear end for this one.
No Demo Reno (2021)
Jenn is on fire!
Jenn is so much fun to watch as she blazes through reno after reno. I wish I had the energy she has as well as her design talent. She is actually an excellent designer able to give her clients what they didn't even know they wanted and not break the bank. I love her sense of humor and while it may seem silly to some it definitely works her. Jenn is warm, friendly and likeable ...a standout star every sense of the word.
I have one big issue with this program. Why only 10 episodes? A show that works as well as this one does should have at least 12 per season! (I would like like 20 but that's a dream, I know.😒)
This is a 10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ show which I highly recommend!
Selling the Big Easy (2019)
Don't pass this off...
This HGTV show is as different from the rest as are the style of houses! The broker, Brittany Picolo-Ramos knows her business and her buyers and brings definite charm to the whole process.
I like how they break up the home tours with a property that has been sitting on the market too long. So, the owner/selling agent brings in Brittany and her crew to stage the home to amp up its "sale-ability". It's amazing what a love seat, silk plant and area rug will achieve. These people know their stuff!
It's enjoyable to see the New Orleans architecture which can vary from cottage to small mansions. HGTV would be foolish to let this show lapse.
Conan the Barbarian (2011)
Big surprise 😮
Forget the negative reviews. This movie was one of the best of its type I've ever seen and I've seen them all. Momoa was perfect as Conan and Stephen Lang played the evil Khalar Zym like he was born to it! I was prepared to be a little disappointed by the negative reviews but instead I was totally entertained. I highly recommend this movie for your viewing pleasure!
The Wrong Car (2016)
Could've been a winner...
...but the writers left out the good parts!
I loved the little gang of bangers. They were pretty convincing as not so bad guys. The real bad guys very slimy enough to give themselves away. The baby? I don't understand his role here but, whatever.
This movie had so much going for it and just as it got good......yeah, that's how I felt.
Restoration, Inc (2021)
Amateurish and unskilled.....
This movie reminded me of a highscool play. Every cliche was used in the poorly written dialog. Maybe that was why the actors barely got through their stilted lines. I was actually embarrassed for them! It doesn't matter what the film was supposed to be about because I couldn't muster up enough interest to care.
I'm all about supporting female directors but they have to earn it first. This attempt at film making was simply a disappointment.
The Righteous Gemstones (2019)
Dumbed down...
Poor John Goodman. I would have thought his talent put to higher standards. Instead, he's subjected to trite overused story script and buffoon acts. I forced myself to the 3rd episode but it was too awful to continue. Sorry, John...you've been had.
Obviously, the audience disagrees with me. I see the 8 out of 10 ratings. That simply proves my point. Most sheeple expect little...which is what you get from this overblown train wreck. Very, very little.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
A Campy Classic?
I watched this film because I'm in the mood for sci-fi, aliens and Bruce Willis. Oh, and because of IMDB's rating of 2.5! I've always avoided the low rated ones but my curiosity got the better of me this time. I'm glad it did, too!
Yes, it's obvious the money wasn't used for production value, a great storyline or snazzy dialog. All the critics are right about that. But, I thought the actors did their best with what they had. Especially Bruce Willis! He was laid back and snarky as usual. I love that guy! The aliens really got screwed in wardrobe. That was too bad.
I enjoyed this movie and I bet you will too. Relax, kick back with a drink and your favorite movie snack.
Extinction (2018)
Ignore bad reviews
This film deserves viewers that will give it more than 10 minutes. The excitement was ongoing and grew until you were thrown into a mind-boggling unexpected curveball! The actors did a great job although the young girl did become annoying towards the end. Watch this movie...you'll be glad you did.
Fixer Upper: Welcome Home (2021)
I LOVE THE GAINES!
I've just binged on the 5 available episodes and came here to IMDB to find out if there were more coming. I saw someone had rated this show a 2 out of 10. WHAT?!?! I can't figure out what more this show could possibly do that would be better. It was the fans that encouraged them to come back!
All I can say is DON'T LISTEN TO NAYSAYERS! The new Fixer Upper is phenomenal!
The Good Fight (2017)
The trick was on me
Oh, It's a darn good thing that I totally loved every minute of this season. Otherwise, the end might have p***ed me off! Well, not so much that I guess. I was a little upset because the episode description said they were going to find out who J. Epstein is killer was. But, NO... I'm not going to say anything else other than the end was "anticlimactic". Figure that one out! 😂
Run Hide Fight (2020)
LET DOWN
SPOILER ALERT! Great movie, phenomenal acting...everything was going well until the end. Zoe showed good sense and logical decision making skills. I can't believe she would have gone after him and "put him down" like that. It's not believable that her character would have taken it upon herself to be judge, jury and executioner. The whole speech about the suffering animal did not achieve what the writer hoped it would. In the real world she would be prosecuted for murder despite the trauma she endured and her heroic efforts. Disappointing...
Magnum P.I. (2018)
I REALLY TRIED...
...but I just can't do it. Season 1 was fun and showed promise but 3 episodes into the second season and I was bored out of my mind. There was no originality, the storylines were basically carbon copies of old cop shows and the actors looked confused most of the time. I quit about halfway through the second season. When season 3 came in I tried to look at it through new eyes. What a joke. I couldn't even finish the first episode I was that bored. There is just no connection...hasn't been for a long, long time.
Ripper Street (2012)
SPELLBINDING
I was looking all over for something I could really "get my teeth into", so to speak, and happened onto this little period piece. My attention was drawn first to the dialogue. Such a fine language English used to be! The Ripper story proved to be a captivating backdrop to this incredible series. Each character was designed to make you either love or hate them...no in between. There are only 37 episodes in this 5 season masterpiece and every episode was important to the storyline. Did I mention the period costumes? Spectacular! Am I overstating my case here? Perhaps a smidge but no more. However, i guarantee you won't regret watching each and every minute of Ripper Street.
6 Underground (2019)
CRAZY, AMAZING FUN!
Yeah, it's a bit hard to get in the beginning so you have to roll back a few times to get the gist. The concept is a humanist's dream. But, once you catch on, remember it's directed by Michael Bay and stars Ryan Reynolds. Then just sit back and enjoy the ride! There was an inconceivable amount of "collateral damage" and the action was way, WAY over the top. I loved Reynold's deadpan humor and the interaction between the main characters will seem forced, at first. You just have to go with it...you'll be glad you did. There will be a sequel for sure and there's talk of a "6 Underground" franchise!
All in all, this movie is Bay at his best and Ryan Reynolds is the cherry on top...ENJOY!
V-Wars (2019)
BRING IT BACK!!!
I rarely write a review and I rarely watch a series that I know was canceled after the first season! But, I watched the first episode and was intrigued. Ian Somerhalder blew my mind with his performance and I am now a fan.
I'm not going to go into details but this is a phenomenal show. How can Stranger Things get an average 8.1 rating and get renewed not once but twice and V Wars get kicked after one season with a 6.1? It absolutely boggles the mind!
This is one of the best renditions of the "vampire" stories I've ever seen, and I've seen A LOT! All I can say is somebody totally missed the mark...too bad, oh so sad.
Deputy (2020)
THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!
What is the problem, people? All of these low scores make me think you have nothing else to do but criticize. What happened to the purpose of watching "shoot 'em up bang-bang" shows? We know the sheriff's gonna win...he's supposed to. This show is a 2020 new-fashion western. Sure it's political...ALL of the shows bend that way now, in case you haven't noticed. I have issues with certain things that have cropped up in nearly every new show these days. As long as it doesn't become the main storyline, I watch around it, if you get my drift. Stephen Dorff is phenomenal as the main character as are all the remaining cast. I hope this gets a second season...it deserves it. You GO sheriff Hollister!
Beecham House (2019)
A DEFINITE BINGE-WATCHER!
I've rarely been as impressed as I am with this phenomenal sries! Although I tried to pace myself, I was compelled to watch the entire series in one sitting. The cast acted (pun intened) as if they were born to each character. The storyline kept me guessing as it wound its way through each glorious scene. The period wardrobe was beyond compare...such intense yellows and oranges and the costume detail! Oh, I wanted to transport myself there. (But, I don't think I could take the heat for long.) If some network doesn't pick this up for a second season...that would be a VERY big ball to drop!
Reverie (2018)
Getting there...
I like Sarah Shahi and I recall seeing her in a 2-season called Fairly Legal. I was bummed out when that show was cancelled. But, I think it was because she was carrying the show on her shoulders. She's a good actress but not strong enough yet to do all the work. Hopefully, the writers won't let that happen here.
Code Black (2015)
BEST MEDICAL DRAMA SINCE ER
I love this show because I get what I want...total absorption for every minute of every episode! If it gets canceled, what can we expect? It won't be because of the writers, directors, actors, etc. failed!
I just have to know...S3E6... The poem Willis recited while under the fire shelter tent with the paramedic...Is there a title and writer for it? I don't care much for poetry but I really love it!
"Heart's petals wait for morning hands,
The smell of sunshine at her doorstep.
Tiny feet tickled by Moroccan sands.
She waltzes and tango, and even a two-step.
Pure as Tahitian blue, bright as Egyptian tan.
Cured by a woman's hue, a sign from the soul of man.
Barefoot and young, eyes tearing and wide.
Words to be sung. Sky's clearing inside.
Because that is love. As you are love.
As only love exists.
As hand in glove...as God above...
As Heaven's song insists."
Lost in Space (2018)
Simple pleasure for all ages!
Is it binge-watching to see the whole season over a long weekend? I don't really know. But, I thoroughly loved this delightful remake start to finish. Yeah, I see others smack-talking the writers but I'm sure they'll do better on season 2....and I DO hope there will be a season 2! When it comes to sci-fi I don't think the usual rules should apply when it comes to the writers. They should be allowed to ignore the science and let their creativity loose. I just want to sit back and enjoy...which I did...you should too!
EDITED TO CHANGE FROM 9 TO 10 STARS TO OFFSET IMBECILS GIVING IT 1 TO 2!
