Stowaway (2021)
Lack of plausibility which gets borderline with stupidity is very annoying in science fiction especially....
It's incredible how low of an opinion the screen writers have about general public. Or are they just that dumb themselves, which is another possibility? What about having science consultants? No need to be rocket scientist to wonder how these cream of them scream Harvard and Yale graduates who made it through the selection process for a Mars mission demonstrate such lack of common sense, problem solving, safety thinking.
Leave alone such an unlikely lack of proper equipment or poor systems design...
Movies are not only about good acting, and this ine was a total waste of good talent.
What do mean exactly: first, it is unthinkable that a space walker would ever leave himself at any time unattached with a safety harness, and yet these two monkeys of astronauts seem to be completely unconcerned; second, brainless decisions while managing the life-saving cargo of the O2 tank by not having it tied to the tether during transition; third, after passing the pivot point of the solar panels module, there was no need to climb down with the bottle in the hands. All that needed to be done was to secure the rope to the tether to make sure it doesn't fly away, climb just slightly towards the station to get a bit of that centrifugal force gravity, and lower the bottle on the rope holding onto the tether. That way only the weight of the bottle would need to be handled, rather than the weight of one's own body plus the bottle. But the smartest of us all selected to be astronauts turn out to be the dumb and dumber morons clueless about the basic mechanics.
Leave alone the whole stupid idea of launching a rocket into space without all the staff working on the launch pad accounted for.
I would say this is the worst sci-fiction movie I have seen lately, and the two lunatics who wrote the scenario for this master piece should never do this again. I would even insist that no losers who flank high school math and physics should be allowed to write scenarios, this is truly painful to see millions of dollars thrown away to produce such idiocy.
Vtorzhenie (2020)
You won't miss much If you pass on this film....
I have watched it in Russian with English subtitles, and being a native Russian speaker I can say - whoever made the subtitles translation for this movie has no language proficiency whatsoever. Pathetic.
However, this is not this movie's biggest problem - it is simply a dull, talentless (talking about the screenwriters and film directors) mediocre mess. Big names, some good actors, Columbia pictures and all, and I felt simply embarrassed about my birth country producing such a wretched parody of a movie. To be fare, using big names and indeed very talented actors, who have delivered some solid acting for the movie, helped to offset some of its miseries. But the plot, the ideas, the pompous drama of the plot has turned it into a pretentious farce, a circus. Russia certainly has talent and creative potential to make good movies, it's a shame this one has been such a waste of good capable actors and such a disappointment for the viewers. If you pass on this film, you won't miss much.
The Kids Are All Right (2010)
Great movie and acting, but mixed feelings and somewhat unconvinced...
I definitely enjoyed the movie,it was fun to watch and I was curious because my views about homosexual families having children are very uncompromising. I started watching with a bias because I believe that nobody can take it upon themselves to decide for the children about having two mothers instead of traditional father and mother. I maintain that belief. I think also that what happened to Paul was somewhat unfair. He didn't seek contact with his biological kids, they found him. And this encounter changed something for him, he realized he wanted a family. He actually thought he found one, and I think it was somewhat justified he felt attracted to a women who bore his child. It was a sensual moment, and she kissed him first. He got blown away, and nobody seemed to care what he felt. The lesbian family lived happily ever after. At the same time it was interesting to watch that the dynamics in the lesbian family isn't much different from a traditional family, and the feeling are very much the same. I still find it very disgusting they watched male gay porn. My views haven't changed about gays, I still hate them screaming "pride" on every corner. But these movie has made me grow to appreciate there is a life I haven't known about. This is the right way of doing it instead of organizing gay parades in every city. It deserves the score, it sparks feelings, and that's what the movies are for. Whatever those feelings are.
