better than expected
14 April 2005
I watched this film with rather low expectations as i had read a number of mixed reviews and wasn't planning on seeing it at all. I'm very glad i did.

You immediately have a lot of sympathy for William Blake and are drawn in by the simplistic opening - he's sitting on a train falling asleep then waking up again, when the train's fireman enters and starts talking about what seems to be a lot of stuff and nonsense...

The cinematography is second to none and adds to the almost dream like settings which the story creates.

Depp gives a convincing performance of a quiet accountant from Cleveland who, due to circumstances, turns into a (in some cases) merciless killer. Depp fans won't be disappointed.

Very sweet

I'd forgotten how much i loved this film until i watched it yesterday. I remember watching it a lot years ago but it isn't the sort of film that sticks out as being mind-blowing. Nevertheless it's still a really good one to watch when you don't want anything too heavy. There are some nice floaty songs, a few teary scenes and overall a nice mix of everything a good film needs, without anything harsh thrown in.

Frank Sinatra and Doris Day are totally believable throughout and compliment each other perfectly. The cast as a whole works very well, the characters are all complex and not over-the-top or dull. In short, it is a perfectly likable film.

it all starts with scissors!

Warning: Spoilers
Oh bless, i love this film! Well i do now anyway.

When i was little i saw a picture of Edward Scissorhands (not knowing it was Johnny Depp at the time) and i was absolutely petrified. It has to be said, for a younger, he is scary looking!!

Now, after over-coming my fears, i have watched it dozens of times and really, really love it. Winona Rider is brilliant, even with that creepy old lady mask at the beginning and end (which is scarier,in my opinion, than a guy with scissors for hands). Johnny Depp still has a strange sort of charisma, it's difficult to explain but you can't help falling in love with him.And at the end when he kills the nasty guy i was ecstatic! i definitely would have shaken his hand...

A really boring review

Unfortunately, after watching Singin in the Rain over a thousand times, i can find absolutely nothing wrong with it. It has to be said, this is the best film in existence.

The songs are all incredible and are some of the few that can get stuck in your head for a week and you still won't be sick of them. Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly singing "Moses Supposes" is definitely one of the highlights. As is Kelly singing in the rain, O'Connor making 'em laugh, Reynolds, Kelly and O'Connor wishing each other a good morning... i could go on.

The first time i saw Singin in the Rain i was eight years old,and that was nine years ago. Loved it then and i adore it now.

Definitely one you need to see.
