God Forbid (2022)
Exposing the pretenders
Power and money corrupt even in the religious community, maybe more so. I attended Liberty University for a couple of semesters. I left after they expelled my brother for refusing to rat out classmates for being at a party. Yes, great job at showing the wicked side of the Falwell; however, I don't understand how Trump and the election had even a smidgeon to do with what happened sexually and the corrupt mess created by the Falwell family. This documentary abuses its responsibility to expose the Falwell dynasty by cramming it full of anti Trump rhetoric. I was disappointed. It is so sad that the producers chose to include things that have no relevance to what happened to this young man and countless other young people who trusted their education to Liberty University.
The Reliant (2019)
Redemption
A wonderful story of redemption, the power of forgiveness and the love of God. I will admit it is not a blockbuster Hollywood hit, but the message of the film is better and more life changing than anything that comes out of Hollywood. I loved the overall theme and references to the word of God. Definitely a film that will change a life.
The Five in Merseyside (2018)
Just shoot me now!
Quite possible the worst script I have ever witnessed accompanied by some of the worst acting. Of course, the actors did not have much to work with. The story line, a scientific experiment in a rural population through a group of children born simultaneously, is an interesting concept with tons of potential. Some of the cinematography was highly artistic and original; however, it was out of place with the poor script and acting. And some of the camera shots seemed to have no value to furthering the plot or adding to symbolism of the story. Through gritted teeth I finished the film hoping for some redemptive quality that never emerged.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
Unexpected
What is so difficult about following the story line from the book in the film/ series? I read the book and loved it. The series? Not so much. What bothered me the most was the character portrayal of Mia Warren. She is a very hateful, cold, hard, and yes a tad racist in contrast to the compassionate woman created in the novel. I don't believe I'll finish this dreadfully inaccurate tv version of the book. I feel for Celeste Ng; it must be heartbreaking to see your great work ripped to shreds.
The Grudge (2019)
Grudge, grudge
Well that was a waste of money and time I'll never get back. Horrible movie. Not worth even watching on TV. Storyline was weak and disconnected. Jump scares didn't really make you jump. Definitely NOT worthy of being connected to the original Grudge. Really not even sure how the writers sold the script for movie production. They must have known someone because this script and film was horrible. That being said, the acting wasn't bad, they just didn't have much to work with.
Unbelievable (2019)
Unbelievable
Unbelievably well scripted and acted!! Such an emotional journey. I loved the way the the Christian detective was portrayed as a regular person rather than a crazy religious nut.
Cathartic tears flowed in the end as validation and repetitions led to new beginnings. If you haven't watched it yet, do so, now!!
Dybbuk Box: The Story of Chris Chambers (2019)
Real Footage ...NOT
So I should have finished the film before I posted my review. In addition to the afore mentioned items, this film was horrible. Poor Sarah was not convincing at all in her surprise or reaction to the spirit box response to her questions. The final scene was on a loop, which only supports the notion that this film was not "real footage". I do appreciate the message that people should stay away from dabbling with the spirit world, and the lighting was good. As any film director knows, lighting is key to set the mood and enabling the audience to see what is happening. Those are really the only two things this film has going for it.
Bundy and the Green River Killer (2019)
School project
A good effort at serial killer hunts. Very reminiscent of a student film project. Dialogue seems forced and not natural while the scenes were obviously shot in limited locations with little thought to overall setting design. It failed to hold my attention or intrigue me. The conversations with Bundy were, at the least, contrived.
