Locke & Key (2020)
Mediocre and boring.
I'm having a hard time even getting kids to like this, because it is so slow and boring. Pointlessly dragged out, utterly dull conversation and horrifically bad acting.
The potential was there for a great magical adventure, but got soaked by terrible writing.
Demon House (2019)
Fake reviews everywhere!
It's not that good and it's NOT a documentary. It's about as thrilling as Supernatural after 10 years, so basically worth a good laugh, but nothing else.
The entire movie is about make-belief interviews as it tries so hard through its entire runtime to make itself seem credible, only to reveal a shadow in the end.
Yeah, that's the supernatural element. A shadow, everything else is fake as cake.
Killing Gunther (2017)
Arnold sings country music in this movie, which makes it all worth it!
Honestly, it's a bit silly, but still a good entertainment at 3am in the morning. However, hearing Arnie sing country music in the end credits makes this 100% worth a watch!
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
Time to get scared... and you will be!
The movie sets out to give us a prequel to the first Annabelle movie, and does so brilliantly. I don't want to spoil anything, but I highly recommend watching this movie, and preferably alone to get the full horror experience.
You will get scared but most of all, the child actors in this movie are so damn good, that you cannot help but actually care if they live or die. That's something a horror movie rarely managed to do.
I wouldn't call this a perfect horror movie, but it damn well comes close, would it not be for the last couple of seconds attempting to glue the two movies together.
Get your popcorn, dim your lights and prepared for an adrenaline rushed experience!
Batman and Harley Quinn (2017)
Funny, entertaining and fanboy antitoxin!
This movie doesn't take itself too seriously, is extremely funny and greatly entertaining.
So why only a 6.0 rating?
I haven't had my eyes glued to a batman animated like this in over a decade, it is simply that good. What's new is that it brings modern humor into it as well, brings up adult themes among the characters while staying true to the original animated series.
But like with every cartoon/game etc, the fanboys vote it down, because it isn't exactly like what it used to be 2-3 decades ago. Fanboys only what, what they have already had and when they don't get it, they whine and cry about.
If you are a Batman or Harley Quinn fan, that doesn't have absurd demands on how these characters should be displayed to please your nerdgasm, you will seriously enjoy this one. A must watch for any fan and a damn good laugh!
It Comes at Night (2017)
Nothing comes at night...
The trailer will put you up for what you will think is a horror movie, where in a post apocalyptic scene, people lock themselves in a house and some monsters lure outside during the night.
That is NOT AT ALL what happens. There is only one supernatural element in this movie, and that part is completely ripped off from Insidious (123)
***SPOILERS***
The kid in the movie is able to astroproject, meaning he can leave his physical body when he sleeps and go outside the house. This is poorly explained, out of what and contexts and has nothing to do with the plot of the movie.
The plot is basically 3-6 people trying to survive a epidemic outbreak in the woods. Yep, that's it, they of course turn on each other in the end and that's it. A waste of time to watch this garbage. The trailer is misleading, the official reviews are misleading. Simply look through the review section and you will see what people actually think of it. It's not horror or entertaining, just boring.
Avoid this movie.
Life (2017)
Candy for CinemaSins
If you are into sci-fi and looking to kill 2 hours with a bag of popcorn, this movie will do. The visuals are okay but honestly that is where it ends.
So many times we have seen sci-fi movies where decision making is so incompetent that you loose immersion and start rooting for the bad guys or the alien, simply because you cannot stand the horrible way the actors are forced to act. Life is exactly that kind of movie. I will now mention these terrible decisions as well as the things that happen. I will also mention some of the illogical things that take place completely ignoring physics.
***SPOILERS BELOW***
So an a capsule returning from Mars with samples is caught by an extended arm on the ISS. The ISS moves at about 5 miles pr. second, a returning capsules would at its orbital pericenter be moving twice as fast before breaking maneuvers and any attempt to intercept... I mean, you don't catch a bullet with your hand, do you?
Alien cell is brought onboard ISS where the crew constantly argues and rudely interrupts one another.
Alien cell is not put in a compartment which can be jettisoned or where it can be properly contained
Alien cell is is apparently all types of cells in one and can feed of oxygen (seriously, come on)
Alien organism becomes self-aware and decides to eat anything organic to grow
Director has no clue on how fire works in zero gravity
Alien organism is immune to heat, cold, radiation, electricity, pressure and whatnot.
Director thinks that communications arrays require coolant fluid in order to operate, that there are no backup communications on the ISS except for the main one and that with the thousands of telecommunications satellites you cannot get a signal in orbit.
Crew does not evacuate until everything is nearly destroyed
Earth tries to push ISS into deep space with a small lifeboat capsule sent from earth. This really annoyed me, because such a small capsule cannot have the propellant/fuel to to push the ISS anywhere it will simply extend its orbit slightly. Secondly, what a stupid decision that is, there are even 2 onboard astronauts, how would they even return? Why the hell not detonate a ICBM next to it, that is close to the only thing that might slightly have a chance to deter its course! GAWD!
Lastly, it is the acting, it is so over dramatized in order to try and make the movie seem good.
And that British chick in the end screams as if she wont return to earth shortly after, she never leaves orbit! DIRECTOR, if you are going to read about how orbital mechanics works at LEAST frikken read about how they work!!! Just because you make a burn for 5 seconds in any direction around earth and slightly push away from it, doesn't mean you wont return STRAIGHT BACK!!! You need to burn for a LONG TIME to even break earths orbit and align yourself with another planetary orbit. And leaving the solar system? We haven't even invented something that can go out and explore deep space!!!
Best example? Halleys comet! It does leave our solar system but always returns because guess what, it is caught by our suns gravitational field which means, it is ACTUALLY IN ORBIT AROUND THE SUN!
LEARN SCIENCE BEFORE YOU MAKE A SCI-FI MOVIE!
Enjoy this one CinemaSins, I know you are going to have a field day with it, can't wait to see you guys roast this garbage on YouTube!
We Go On (2016)
Reviews are NOT fake!
Seriously, this movie is good. And I mean damn good. I can barely say anything without spoiling it but really give it a go, you wont regret it. The story is very original, the plot is intriguing and the movie is full of surprises. I can honestly say that I was positively surprised by this movie.
Great writing, acting and effects.
Rings (2017)
It's good! Made IMDb account just to tell that!
Is it a Ring movie? Hell yes!
Is it a horror/thriller? Oh yeah!
Will you be scared when watching it late at night alone? YOU BET!
This movie delivered, I was scared, utterly sucked in by the plot (which is good) and I couldn't stop watching. After reading other reviews, I get the feeling that there are perhaps too many fanboys that ruin it. Whether you are new to the franchise or a returning horror enthusiast like myself, you will definitely find it worth watching.
A lot of horror movies get poor ratings, mainly because people don't watch it in the right setting or they are poorly made. But this one isn't. Watch it alone, in the dark and you will be damn scared!
Not once did I stop to think "oh god, that's so lame", either because of special effects, poor acting or bad plot. It's all glued together perfectly, one thing leading up to the next.
Furthermore, the effects are REALLY good. I mean, I was here thinking I was going to give it a decent 7, but it is definitely a 8. Honestly, give it a go. It is FAR better than most of the horror crap that came out in 2016.
