The Crown (2016)
Brilliant, ignore the negative reviews
I don't comment on much but there are some people with their nose bent out of shape and just like a moan. The handling of the Di and Dodi death is done amazingly well and some people seem very annoyed about something they have absolutely no idea about what went on!! There is no script or dialog from what went on, this is specialtion and guess work otherwise known as DRAMATISATION!!
If you haven't started season 1 yet then you are in for a treat. All the main characters are cast so well and even in season 6 you will not be disappointed.
Ignore the neysayers and buckle up for an engrossing trip!
Glass Onion (2022)
Dim witted, self indulgent silly twists....
I have watched this twice and still can't explain it. The premise is old..... eccentric millionaire (ok billionaire nowadays) owns a remote property and invites people over to do a mock murder mystery....that gets solved easily and then the real murders happen but hats where it all gets wishy washy and silly. The twin of murdered daughter and a guy has an allergy to pineapple are the main twists and it's just daft. Not a patch on the first film and a shame this is linked to it. I can't say the acting was bad but how the producers secured Norton and Craig to this is beyond me other than Norton does have a tendancy to get involved with some pretty mediocre projects.
Unsure how the critics are so full of this as it is desperate, old, out dated and at times just dumb....and that all lies with the producers who have placed style in front of substance in an effort to show some sort of cleverness......it hasn't worked!!
Witness Number 3 (2022)
Some big plot holes
Ok so as a drama it's watchae, lead actress is very good, hampered if by the silly plot and glitches.
1/ I haven't got to episode 4 yet but the family liason officer is clearly in on it
2/all she witnessed was a guy in a grey hoodie with his back to her and a guy with a beard and a leather jacket kinda pushing him along, no knife in hand - SHE DID NOT WITNESS ANY CRIME
3/ why wouldnt the lads on the estate just stab her or kill her, the continued intimidation makes no sense and completely counter productive. In real life she would have been killed long ago
4/ the police do nothing in this, she is intimidated and threatened several times. Police procedure would be to secure the safety of the witness, not leave her alone on the estate. It's actually a massive issue and reality would have made this a very different series
I'm all for modern dramas like this but it's so annyong when the writing does not take into account how real life works.
Warrior (2011)
Would be a 10 but for a stupid unbelievable ending
Not much to add to the other reviews, it is a fmgreat film but the ending is just not believable. Tom Hardy's character is a wrecking ball and knocking everyone out. We are supposed to believe that someone who gets his ass kicked in every fight somehow evades getting knocked out against Tom Hardy.......seriously?!
Moonfall (2022)
Can't tell if this is dreadfull or so bad it's excellent?!
First of all, forget usual reviews and plots etc
The script is awful, clichè'd in so many bad ways, the movie length is ok but skips along very quickly and you find yourself struggling to keep up with twists and turns which happen every five minutes. They have typecast samwell tarley from game of thrones and for his first major movie breakthrough Im not convinced this has done him any favours. The chi in places is top notch and others its poor. There are a lot of scenes shot 'outside' which are actually blue/green screens but it's badly done and you can tell immediately, ok in the 80/90's but it's not acceptable now.
This makes Armageddon look like a noir documentary!
There are lots to dislike about this m
ovie but if you want to while away and afternoon or evening then it's worth a watch.
Narcos: México (2018)
A disappointing end to a great series
So first off, this is all about personal opinions of fans of the show, i have no critical sway or ruling so take this review with a pinch of salt.
First off, ignore the scores of 5 and under for season 3 - it's not merited and i judging by the reviews i think alot more blood and guts was expected....
I am writing this on the back of season 3. I think it's well written, visually stunning, especially the party and nightclub scenes and the lead actors both male and female are strong.
The reason i wanted to write this is because i feel disappointed by the last few episodes. The start of series starts 3 months after Felix is in prison and states that you will see what happens when you let the monsters out of the cage (or words to that effect). Me along with lots of others was assuming this meant the carnage and downright disgusting amount of violence shown by rival cartels would be transported on to the silver screen and the 'final season' would be a blast from start to finish.....well it isn't. Its a very clever take on how the infant drug structure in Mexico crumbled upon the imprisonment of felix. The reporter, whilst i agree can be annoying plays a critical part in the storytelling of how the world saw the drug scene in mexico explode and the corruption whilst was rife in all aspects of government. Whilst the first few episodes build up nicely, the last few fail to deliver other than confirm factual based in. There are too many unanswered storylines that should have been dealt with at least by subtitle at the end. The killing of Ramon seems to have been an afterthought and to know that season 3 ended the way it did does not sit right.
A briilliant series, for me much better than the original narcos but feel this could and should get a 4th season and maybe allay the bloodlust and desires of violence hunger merchants like me :)
