Cuck (2019)
It's a downer, but an interesting topic
Ronnie is extremely unattractive and unlikeable throughout the entire film. I felt he would try to take a turn or an improvement, but at the smallest misstep or bad news he would go off the rails.
I think it's an interesting case study about what goes on with many young males that have fallen through the cracks and never learned how to be a man. So they stay in this constant state of adolescence.
It's absolutely uncomfortable to watch, through the low budget production, the uncomfortable title character and a little bit of lazy storytelling.
Definitely not a date movie, but a story that definitely needs to be out.
I feel this film got downvoted heavily because of a lot of conservative bloggers got their feelings hurt by this film.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
More of a great film than just a great comedy
King of Staten Island is a deeper dive into Pete Davidson, a mostly autobiographical look at why he is the way he is. Well done and well written and a great supporting cast from Bill Burr, Marissa Tomei and Steve Buscemi all were steller in supporting roles.
Be prepared, it is dark and not funny ha-ha, but definitely uses humor to deflect uncomfortable situations. Pete's always been an intriguing character to me, so this was a great way to pull the layers back, it's not always pretty, but I think it is definitely worth the price.
Laps (2020)
Sweet love story following a cute couple
A super cute movie about love overcoming bumps in the road, baggage from old relationships, and breaking old habits. Nathan and Stephanie are cute couple that are better at loving each other than loving themselves. Laps is where they meet , running laps on a high school track and it's a great analogy for the circles they run themselves through.
The leads are great and played well off each other in both funny and intimate scenes. This is a great date movie and I definitely recommend to anyone who has trouble seeing through the messy part of a relationship.
Peace Officer (2015)
Definitely A good watch
I found the subject of police militarization very interesting and I wasn't aware of how broad the rampup of militarization has been nationally. I've noticed a difference in police culture in my lifetime. It seems like there are a lot more adrenaline junkie "cowboys" on police forces than when I grew up.
The film in particular addresses no-knock warrants and SWAT tactics. And addresses them In Utah with a retired County Sheriff who seems to regret what he allowed on to the force.
It's a good in depth view that will provoke questions about what you feel the role of police are in society.
