The Fall Guy (2024)

Romantic action flick, what else do you need to know?

I was thinking about writing a full blown review covering the story and the characters, the acting and the stunts and everything, but then I realized that I'm so far off point.

It's Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt falling in love while Gosling takes a beating with a mafia-related plot. Don't overthink it, you'll ruin it.

It's fun, it's exciting, it's that early Tom Cruise vibe of movie, like Knight and Day. Sit down, relax, grab some popcorn and just enjoy giving your brain a bit of break. Not everything has to be some convoluted political plot like Dune, some things are just for fun.

TLDR: this movie wants to have fun, so don't ruin it's vibe with your overanalyzing 😅

Shadow and Bone (2021– )

Great, but flawed

It's a good watch, not gonna lie. It's entertaining, fast paced and the visuals are quite decent. If that's what you're looking for, just a fun young adult fantasy to enjoy, you can stop reading now, just go watch it, you'll like it.

But if you heard somewhere that this is an amazing show with complex characters and great storytelling, you might end up disappointed. Here's why.

As I said, the show is good, but that's all it is. The world is incredibly interesting, but we don't get to see enough of it, the characters vary from great to blend and the pacing is all over the place. The show will slow down and speed up for no apparent reason and after a while the slow parts started to wear me down a bit.

The characters... uh... Some of them are great, but none of them are the main protagonists of the show. The main protagonist is a self-insert, whose only personality is what the actress herself is managing to bring into scenes. The other two, basically the love interests, are two-dimensional, at best. They're not real and all of their actions are lead by their relationship with the main protagonist (not in a good way). The great characters are a part of this side plot that was added to the show as a way to farm engagement. It's a gang called the Crows and each of them are interesting, with their own agendas, a past that keeps haunting them and traumas as a sprinkle on top. The Crows were by far the best part of the show and that's all I'm gonna say. Their story was so good, I don't wanna to ruin it for anyone thinking of watching the show.

TLDR: It's a good, but simple, young adult fantasy show. Don't think too much while watching it and you'll enjoy it 👍
