Parasite (2019)

Hollywood vs Netflix
10 February 2020
Don't get me wrong. Parasite is a great movie. This being said, I believe that Hollywood is saying we'd rather vote for a subtitled foreign film than recognize Netflix as a major player. The Irishman, The Two Popes and Marriage Story are also great films and deserves more recognition.

So bad it's good.

A hodgepodge of who's who, running, screaming and overacting. Reminescent of: "It's a mad, mad, mad world". You will love it or hate it.

Quintessential film noir

A suspense that keeps you glued to the edge of your your seat. Superb acting, flawless script, truly ahead of it's time. Highly recommended.

That's the point!

Will not be winning any awards anytime soon but I found it to be kind of entertaining. Just like the main character, the movie is twisted, full of arrogance but ultimately somewhat lovable. It has the potential of becoming part of a stoner movie list.

Truth is, almost everybody has known a Moondog sometime in their lives. As usual, McConaughey shines.

A rollercoaster ride.

Musically speaking it's a confused timeline. No references to the great musicians who have been playing with Elton since the very beginning and where so important in shaping his sound.Too much emphasis on his flamboyant costumes or on his homosexuality. Bernie Taupin and Elton John's amazing body of work deserves better representation. As mentionned,a rollercoster of a ride. Exciting at the beginning but it leaves feeling empty at the end. T. Egerton does a decent job.

The music is played on a zither or zither harp, not a guitar. That instrument is of Austrian origin and playing reflects the folklore at that point in time. Long story short: I liked it!

A beautiful and fittting testament to a great actor. Simple and evocative movie with a great cast. Goodbye Harry Dean Stanton, you will be missed.

Better under influence.

This is one of a dime a dozen spoof. It has it's moment and it helps to indulge in a big fat one before viewing. Don't spend half an ounce ont it tought.

I was there when...

...they took my friend away. A 16 years old high school kid whose sole mistake was going to a political rally mainly to see a performing artist. The weeks he spent in detention changed him forever. This film is a necessary testament so nobody forgets these dark times in Quebec's history.

Upper class waste land.

Director Pierre Falardeau has always been an acerbic critic on politics, wealth being passed to families and friends for generations, the exploitation of lower class citizens as well as immigrants. The rant is fascinating, provocative and sometime hilarious. Die hard Québec stuff!

Turns 40 in 2018.
21 July 2017
This movie will be 40 years old next year. Yes, it had it's flaws, it was controversial when released because the conflict was still fresh in people's memories. There is no doubts that the Vietnam war had it's atrocities from both sides of the fence but one must admit that this great picture marked an era and deserves a 40yr remastered re-issue.
