Welcome to Marwen (2018)
How Can People Not Like This?
Unique, fresh and moving. I guess the idea of not doing something formulaic turns of critics. I read these reviews and I can only think they must have watched a different movie.
Carell was great as he seems to be in almost everything these days. I found the whole cast wonderful.
Killing Eve (2018)
Best New Show in a Long Time
Jodie Comer is a revelation. Black humor at its best.
Un sac de billes (2017)
Loved It, See It
A story of the unbreakable bonds of family with the backdrop of being Jewish in France during the Nazi occupation. I didn't read the book or see the original 1975 movie version, I loved this movie.
The fact that it is a true story makes it even more important. Why can't we see more movies like this?
My favorite part was when Jo observes that no matter who you meet in France, whatever their outward actions are, you still see fear in their eyes.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Fun, Sad, Fast Paced, Perfectly Cast
I must admit I'm not a big super hero / comic book film fan. Sure I have seen the Avengers and some of the standalone movies but usually I get bored during the smash everything up action scenes. The exceptions are the Guardians 1 & 2, Deadpool, and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy.
Wonder Woman was different. I really enjoyed it. I thought the story, the action and the casting was all excellent. I figured Gadot would be pretty good. I mean she was about the only good thing in Superman vs Batman. But WOW, she exceeded my expectations.
My wife asked me, can we see it again tomorrow. Even if she can't talk me into going tomorrow - if you are reading this, you should go see it.
