I enjoyed the movie from the intrigue aspect, a good thriller, and from a personal aspect, I could relate to the professional story as a French and English translator and interpreter. I found the title "Interpreter" rather than "translator" appropriate. An interpreter renders spoken speech verbally, while a translator renders written texts in writing. At the U.N., an interpreter must be fluent in at least two languages and have passive knowledge of a third language – Silvia Broome is fluent in English, in Koo and shows a little understanding of French. We saw her interpreting in a booth (with headset on, taking notes, focused, sensitive, alert), then in a meeting, where she interpreted consecutively, again showing the same qualities and skills an interpreter does. I felt glad that the movie portrayed accurately several qualities essential to interpreters. The sensitivity to words and meanings was very believable. I found the plot plausible, the acting engaging. The exchanges between Broome and Keller evolved naturally, as trust did too, so that more caring scenes later on were believable. I enjoyed the maturity displayed in the final scenes, the internal struggles between justice and vindication, the pangs of pain felt in tragedy. The acting in the final scenes is superb, the unfolding of the thought process well acted and filmed; the unfolding of the last scenes felt right. Many more details held profound meanings, too many to tell, and not wanting to spoil for others. In my opinion, it was a good movie worth making and worth watching.
