Supernatural: In My Time of Dying (2006)
Death makes great entertainment
An awesome episode. I enjoyed every moment of it, and really loved the insightful glimpses we get in all the characters, especially Dean. We get to see him be his usual macho self with some added loathing to boot. I kind of expected something to happen to the other however. They really set it up that way. The thing that bothered me the most is that whenever one of the Winchesters gets healed it is an instantaneous thing. I would find this unbelievable show a bit more believable if the characters weren't always almost dying and then all of the sudden, they are in perfect health. My one qualm but on the whole this was an awesome episode for an awesome show.
Sin City (2005)
Visually stunning but storyline jumpy
This was movie was a brilliant cinematic moment. I enjoyed watching every seen, and was fascinated by the way it was filmed. It seemed to capture the best angles and always looked right on target. With that said it was also a bit jumpy. The story lines never meshed together which may be alright for a series of short films but not when the whole movie is together. In the end I did not feel like it all came together, they just finished up the story that had finished telling. It was three separate stories that all take place in Sin City. Not a story about Sin City. I have seen stunning movies, but it doesn't always mean the storyline is great. The dialogue seemed a bit too much like a parody of Guy Noir Private Guy from the Prairie Home Companion. It was just a bit too detectivish. A little too absurd. I found myself rolling my eyes when the priest said he had joined in on cannibalism. Just a little too absurd. As for the acting. I believe everyone did an excellent job with the dialogue they were given. It would have been nice to see a bit more of the different characters, or perhaps a bit more background. But then again, there's not much you can do when your trying to squeeze three short films into one movie. Again, Visually stunning but lacking in a solid storyline. Watch it for the pretty pictures.
