Pathetically boring movie from an overrated director
18 June 2021
I heard a lot of praise about the director Amit Masurkar and his film Newton, which i didn't get chance to. Watch yet. When i saw the trailer of the movie i didn't find anything interesting apart from the unique subject, but i decided to watch because it had all of my favourite actors. It turned out to be a horrible film, I blame the lazy screenplay and pathetic direction. The random improvised dialogues of villagers who seems to be non actors was so. Unnecessary, the director must have thought he added authenticity to the film but it was lame and caricaturish. Overated director ruined a promising subject.

A path breaking film which took Nepali Cinema to digital era.

I respect a lot about this film when it comes to the risk they had taken when Nepali movie industry was ruled by Substandard Masala entertainers copied from Indian cinema. It was completly new experience to see such a novel story presented in an artistic way. But the length of the film ruined everything for me. I felt like a 30 minutes short film was stretched to 2 hours just to fit into the norms.

Hari (2018)

A breath of fresh air.
8 April 2019
The film was like a breeze of fresh air for someone who was suffocating with mediocre Nepali films since last few years. It was something which i had never seen in Nepali cinema. The narrative was so unusual yet so intriguing. The directors duo beautifully sketched the centeral character Hari played By Bipin Karki. It felt like we could read hari's mind. Hari is an ordinary guy living his ordinary life and his fantasies. But Bipin Karki did a great job here making the ordinary character extraordinary. I could see people giggling in threatre throughout.

If i have to talk about the technicalities, This must be the most technically sound Nepali film of recent time. The lighting, the camerawork, the color, the editing, the sound, everything looks top notch. Well i can go on writing about it but it'll get too long for you to read. In short, Hari is the film which you should't miss. The makers have taken a risk by choosing such a bold and unique storytelling. We should go and encourage them so that we get to see more of such high quality Nepali cinema in future.
