The Jackal (1997)
What an awful waste of time
So lets say you are a producer, you have some money, and you somehow got Richard gear and Bruce Willis, so now all you need is a script...but , why bother? see, this movie is really terrible, the acting is pretty good, but the casting is awful gear and Willis did their best to play these characters they simply cant play. now, this movie has no plot, or rather, there's something that tries to pass off as a plot: there's a mean hit-man (Willis) who is cool dangerous and sophisticated (actually he's none of those things, but from some dialog between the other characters, you are supposed to get this impression), so this hit-man is on a mission to kill someone, now there's an ex-IRA prisoner who is kind and nice and very likable (gear) who the FBI release from prison so he will help them. so now the FBI is "investigating" to find this hit-man, the investigation consists of a series of unlikely information - like some random person lost his wallet and someone used his name to buy a car - which is always right on the money. since there's no real plot and the script is so crappy, you cant expect any real character development, or tension, so instead of creating them through the story, they simply add some disconnected dramatic music, which signals you that something very dramatic is going on , instead of actually creating something dramatic..
the bottom line is that this is a very bad movie, and a complete waste of time which somehow got an incredibly high score for its level, probably because of the cast - and this is exactly what the producers where counting on.
She Hate Me (2004)
Not really a comedy.
for some strange reason this movie was classified as a comedy, but its really not. it has some amusing moments, but its more a drama then a comedy. and its actually not that bad. the movie tells the story of a man who lost his job because he blew the whistle on his company. he's now unemployed and cannot get a job because his old boss burned him everywhere, so he is convinced by his lesbian ex to help lesbians get pregnant.
the movie is more an attempt to discuss the fate of the ones who blew the whistle, and some vague discussion of the morality behind impregnating about 18 women.
now, the discussion is not really very deep or interesting, you get the general idea that the director and writer think that impregnating that many women is somehow morally wrong, even tho there is a direct comparison to regular sperm donors. so maybe someone was trying to imply that donating sperm is wrong? maybe.. and as for the whole whistle blowing thing, well, i have never seen any movie talking about the fate of the man who blew the whistle and was abandoned by the government and society, so it was interesting.
so , to sum it up, its interesting enough to watch , as long as you don't expect too much.
If Only (2004)
A true waste of time
While against what some might call reason, i rather like Jennifer Love Hewitt, this movie was really terrible. See, Hewitt has some fetching quality i like, which does show in this movie, but is not enough to make it worth while.
"If only" tells a very predictable and unreliable love story between a socially dysfunctional English guy, with whom for some reason Jennifer is in love, and an aspiring musician (how original a part for Jennifer). not wanting to spoil the movie for anyone, i will not go any further describing the plot, not that i believe its possible to spoil it (any more then you might be able to spoil rotten eggs), however some people might actually watch this film, and i wouldn't want to ruin it for them. i'd much rather let the film do it.
its hard to tell if the acting was bad , since the script is so awful i don't think even good actors could have made this movie seem plausible or at least fun to watch.
i would like to finish with a positive note, so i will say this: the good thing about this movie is that after a while it ends.
Don't say i didn't warn you.
