Mahaan (2022)
The movie feels like watching a drunken man's journey to his destination
AThe movie has some compelling performance from Vikram, Dhruv, Bobby and Sananth. You wish to see the movie till the end.. but the narrative sways from side to side without being crisp and so many times you feel like just switching it off. The early story of Vikram seems like a drag and really does not add much to the story in 2nd half. Possibly the movie run time should have been shortened by 30-40 mins and we may have had a good entertaining movie.
Chehre (2021)
Good family thriller..one time watch
I am surprised that most reviews are for Rhea and not for Chehre. The movie is a court room drama that does not feel stretched. Although story is average, the direction and performance keep you engaged. Good one time watch.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
You might enjoy it, if you may switch off your brains before viewing
So many plot holes that you may wonder if this movie was ideally targeted for kids and later switched over to a more mature audience. The movie has got The Suicide Squad's spirit for sure with the characters shaping up as they should. Great performance by all the cast. Margot Robbie as Harley is real fun to watch. It would have been great if they had spent more time on script. Good for one time watch.
The Last Hour (2021)
Just watch the last hour.. literally
Poor writing. It starts off in an interesting note, but then the plot goes around in circles with unnecessary twists. We literally skipped after 5th episode to the last episode and did not miss anything significant. God knows why most of the scenes are shot in dark when the location is extremely scenic.
Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014)
Brings the spirit of suicide squad
The Suicide Squad are not the good guys.. and this is the only movie I have seen which has tapped to their base nature. A big thumbs up for that.
Justice League: Gods and Monsters (2015)
Such a great concept!
It starts with the premise that what if the super heroes are not worshipped for their greatness and had weakness just like other humans. When faced against severe odds will they succumb to thier weakness or force themselves to rise above the challenge. It's a good watch and keeps you glued on till the end.
Imaikkaa Nodigal (2018)
What killed the movie is the assumption that people generally are dumb,
A suspense thriller should have a tight storytelling with minimal loopholes. This movie lost the plot in managing loopholes. A serial killer enters a crowded wedding and makes his attempt with no camera capturing him... Really!! Somebody runs over a person by car and instead of helping him, kills him ... Who does that! A serial killer takes 2 crore ransom from every victim but still kills.. why are people paying him then ?? Are they so dumb?
Paatal Lok (2020)
Did the beginning and end have any connection to the middle?
There are so many character development and twists and turns. But what is the connection to the story? Suddenly in the end the police inspector has a Eureka movement but how did he come to realise it through his investigation is a mystery. Did he have to go through the entire motion to connect it with the dog?
Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020)
I just wanted to stop breathing and pass out!
There was no storyline and the narrative seemed never ending. After the reveal of Abhishek's split personality, there was really no purpose to stretch it for 5-6 episodes more. How can a wife not know about her husband's condition? Do they not live together? How can she turn into a lesbian for a plot? They are not performers. How can both of them turn into perfect murderers so easily?
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018)
It's not the best suicide squad movie, but still good enough
Well, they are not exactly heroes... And that part of their character seemed lacking in the story. Otherwise a good plot with the usual good guys, bad guys and both wanting to outwin each other. It's a fun watch.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
Great story..
Solid plot, a narrative that keeps you glued to the seat till the end and quite a surprise in the climax. All in all.. a great movie.
V1 Murder Case (2019)
Good concept lost in bad direction
The performances are very forced and frankly you are not even trying to find a killer among them. Characters don't tend to create any impression and the so called suspense fizzles out. Could have been executed much better.
Mirzapur (2018)
Spectacular!!
It's power packed start to end.. well the end we have so far. Amazing screen play, but what really takes it to the next level are the performances. Great star cast and even characters with short role really gave some fab performance. Not really wanting to speak about Pankaj Tripathi who is undoubtedly a great actor. The hidden gems who have made it thier own is Ali Fazal and Dibyendu Sharma.. they have completely rocked the series. The season 2 post credit scene said so much with no dialogues. Ali Fazal is truly a great actor and has not got his due until this. It would have been great tochwve more of Vikrant Massey. Must watch Hindi crime drama that outshines quite a few international ones.
Durgamati: The Myth (2020)
Not fit to hold a light to the original
It's a scene to scene remake of Bhaagamathie. The good thing is that it is fast paced and therefore not boring. But Bhoomi Pedenekar does not do justice to the role. Anushka Shetty's facial expressions in the pivotal scenes were far far better than what Bhoomi delivers. Her performance seems quite forced and don't quite blend in. In a scene between her and Anant Mahadevan, Anant seems more convincing than her. Due credit to Karan Kapadia who performed his role well although a short one. Arshard Warsi was good in his role. A one time watch if you want to pass time. Frankly, I would rather watched the Telugu movie dubbed in Hindi though.
Ludo (2020)
Overrated
The plot is very thin. it's a situational comedy-drama movie but not really captivating. Characters are flimsy and don't really hold attention. RajKumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Sanya Malhotra are outstanding. But frankly half the story doesn't seem necessary and seems to just while away time.
Padayappa (1999)
A movie Rajni fans will love
The movie is designed to please Rajni lovers. It is action packed and full of Rajni mannerisms and AR Rehman songs. What is amazing about this movie is that Rajni's antagonist in this movie is Ramya Krishnan and blow for blow she matches Rajni's style in her own way and you get a perfect villain for Rajni here. Fun movie and a good watch till the end.
Cloak & Dagger (2018)
Season 1 - good. season 2 - terrible
Season 1 was good. The protogonists were character you could relate to and the story was unfolding well. When they got to Season 2 it seemed like they fired the story writer and decided to go ahead anyway. Absolutely no plot and God only knows what could make anyone watch through the season. It seemed like the makers knew that they wanted to shut it down before they started S2 and were just blowing money.
Laxmii (2020)
Are these real reviews!
Firstly, I have seen Kanchana and my expectations when I heard the movie is getting remade was pretty low because it was the cast that pulled the earlier movie off. It was never about story but what made the movie a hit was comic timing, chemistry between characters and some phenominal performance. Kovai Sarla was explosive in the original movie and Sharad Kumar's performance was phenomenal. Now this is really hard to duplicate. Having said that they have been able to fairly pull it off.. although the original ending was far better. Sharad Kelkar's role although short has been very nicely performed and hats off. Akshay Kumar's comic timing is good as usual but does not match Lawrence's from the Tamil version. They have changed the story a bit which helps reduce the comparison slightly. The movie is not as good as the original, but not exactly a bad watch. Its good for one time watch and a decent family entertainer.
The Machinist (2004)
Absolutely insane.. a Christian Bale masterpiece
It's a psychological thriller and Christian Bale completely dominates the movie. His passion for his work not only shows in his acting but also in the way he has changed his physical appearance for rhe role. Salute to a fine actor and another masterpiece from him.
The Matrix (1999)
So.. have you taken the blue pill or the red pill?
One of the best Sci-Fi films ever made with a solid combination of good story line, great characters, jaw dropping action sequences and some amazing special effects. Even though it's only supposed to be a Sci-Fi, it does make you wonder what do we really know about life and reality. Also tells you that most of our limitations are in our mind and not around us.. so you come back with some good life lessons. A strong recommendation to watch.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
A beautiful film portraying both the horrors and humane sides to Nazi Germany
Firstly, Taika Waititi is amazing both as director and actor. His portrayal of Adolf Hitler was amazing. The movie tries to show the horrors of the Nazi regime and also how humanity lived even amongst the horrors. Every character was memorable. In the end you even start rooting for Captain K, who initially can only be seen as a man wanting to get back at war from the Nazi side. I loved Scarlet Johansson as Rosie Betzler. She touches your heart in several scenes. Even Yorki, JoJo's best friend, leaves subtle messages from time to time. Roman as Jojo and Thomasin as Elsa were great. It's a good movie and something you can cherish again and again.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020)
They take you where no man has taken you before (in Bollywood films)
The movie only flirts with the idea of homosexuality. They keep switching between different household problems and keep portraying them on a lighter note to ensure that the movie does not become too much to handle. But the central theme keeps coming up from time to time with the message that all of us need to open up to it and accept it and not behave like an ostrich sticking it's head under the ground to avoid problems... And to a good extent it achieves this goal. Fantastic performances by all and a lot of credit to Ayushmann and Jitendra for portraying the protogonist convincingly.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Simply amazing
It starts off a bit awkwardly...but the story really builds up till the end.. eagerly waiting for the 2nd season.
Jessica Jones (2015)
A superhero whose powers are to make 5 episode storyline into 13
Absolutely poor storyline with unnecessary side plots which don't seem to really blend with the central story. Jessica Jones is both weak and strong. The series could have closed in perhaps 5 episodes which unnecessarily drags for 13 episodes... If only Jessica could behave like a superhero and take care of the bad guys.
The Punisher (2017)
Jon Bernthal is amazing as the Punisher
Jon really lives and breathes the character of the Punisher. He brings a level of crazy to the character that really makes it believable. Great story line which remains riveting till the end.
