The Shakedown (2024)
Cape Town comedy
The Shakedown' Becomes SA's First-Ever Amazon-Produced Film we read the article and decided to watch it and I can confirm this movie was hilarious and really well made and exceeded our expectations.
We chuckled all the way through at the dark humor and laugh out loud moments.
It was really well cast including Jack Parow and Julia Anastasopoulos who played great characters.
The movie embodied South African humor through and through with many nuances for a local audience.
The story line was good and fast paced, the sets and scenery were also great.
Highly recommended for an adult audience streaming on Amazon.
Painkiller (2023)
A good show exposing different perspectives.
I'm surprised by the low ratings and glad I didn't read before watching because I enjoyed the show.
It showed various perspectives from the Sackler family and employees, the pharma reps, the doctors, the whistleblowers, the patients and then the addicts.
I thought it was filmed well, there were comedic moments not to poke fun at the subject matter which is very sad but more at the impotence of the law makers and greed of the Sackler family and it's employees and those who jumped ship.
I thought the ending was a bit rushed I'd have liked more epilogue but overall we binged over 2 days as it was very watchable.
You People (2023)
I enjoyed it!
I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before I watched this movie otherwise I wouldn't have watched it and I really enjoyed it! I'm surprised by so many bad reviews from others.
I laughed out loud so many times. It was a modern Rom Com with a bit of a message behind it about cultures, religious differences and generational differences.
The storyline is cool and the movie ran at a good pace with a good soundtrack.
I also liked the cast and characters who were funny and believable. It's definitely an easy watch.
Definitely watch this movie and decide for yourself, don't be put off first by other reviews.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Loved it- all the nostalgia
I went in with few hopes I'd enjoy this movie- I loved it!
Amazing if you remember the original movies well all the references and props pop up throughout.
The cameos are amazing and the nod to Harold.
Great for those who know the originals and for the new generation.
The Guilty (2021)
Definitely made during lockdown
One character in the movie- Jake Gyllenhall's acting is great but a bit unrealistic.
Plot twist is interesting.
Will keep you entertained but questioning the storyline.
6 out of 10 for me.
The Undoing (2020)
I was hooked!
I normally get bored and distracted in series and end up scrolling through my phone but not with this one.
It was really good, well acted and keeps your attention.
The long courtroom witness testimony speeches wouldn't happen in real life and the last episode was a bit Hollywood but overall enjoyed.
